Toy Safety Statement from Safari Ltd.
August 9, 2007
We hear you. Due to your inquiries about toy safety concerns, we have
drafted the following document.
For more than 25 years, Safari Ltd. has fostered constructive and
creative play with top-of-the-line educational toys. All of our toys
have gone through intensive testing since 1981 at the accredited SGS lab
in Hong Kong. One of the tests, known as ASTM F963-03, examines the
products for unsafe substances by U.S. standards. Since our products are
also sold in Europe, where even more restrictions are in place, we also
undergo the complicated EN-71 test report.
Europe and certain cities in the United States have banned phthalates
from PVC. Phthalate is a softening agent added to PVC, which can be
harmful to children. All our products are phthalate free, to ensure the
safety of the children who play with them.
Recently, there has been a growing concern regarding the lead content of
paint used for children's toys. With some companies recalling their
items, we understand the cause for alarm. Please be assured that all of
our products have passed standard American (ASTM) and European (EN71)
testing. Those tests include a "lead content check" which ensures the
lead content in the paint is within the nationally allowed (and healthy)
amount, if at all present.
If you have any further concerns or questions, please feel free to
contact Desy Rodriguez, in our Product Development department, at
desyrodriguez@safariltd.com or 800-554-5414 ext 170.
Sincerely,
The Safari Ltd. Team
