1. Sing Happy Birthday to Einstein:
Albert Einstein, sometimes called the father of modern physics, was born in Ulm, Germany on March 14, 1879. Sing happy birthday to the man behind the theory of relativity and TIME Magazine's "Person of the Century."
2. Make Pi(e)(s):
If you need an excuse to make pie, this is it. No, Pi and pie are not the same, but pie comes in a circle shape and that ought to be a good enough justification on its own. Find your favorite recipe, grab your pie making implements, and get cooking. Need some inspiration? Our own Lead Community Engagement Specialist Sunny Hernandez is a bit of a pie connoisseur. Check out some of her favorite pies and pie recipes on ForYourPiesOnly.com. You might even find a few Pi Day themed pies.
3. Make Pi puns:
You'd have to be irrational to celebrate Pi Day! Nailed it! ... No? Well anyway, Buzzfeed gets it. See if you can squeeze a few into your day, or just find a bunch of bad Pi pun memes, or make your own, and share them online.
4. Have a Pi reciting contest:
You'll need some practice first, but try to see how many digits of Pi you can memorize. Compete with your friends. Winner gets some pie. See if you can beat this woman below (good luck):
5. Decorate with Pi:
Pi is pretty easy to draw, so if nothing else, make a bunch of Pi doodles and tape them up around your space. Easiest way to decorate with Pi? Do a quick Google search for Pi wallpapers and download your favorites as backgrounds on your phone and computer. You'll probably also end up with a lot of "Life of Pi" movie wallpapers during that search, speaking of which...
6. Watch Pi movies:
"Pi" is a 1998 dark science fiction psychological thriller about a mathematical genius who becomes paranoid and obsessed with patterns in numbers. "Life of Pi" is an epic tale of survival and spirituality. And "American Pie" is a bawdy comedy about four guys trying before they graduate from high school. All are recommended Pi Day viewing material.
7. Say Pi as much as possible:
Just sneak it into sentences. Use "Pi" to replace words that rhyme with it. Find excuses to use words like "pirate," "pilot" or "principi." Generally just drive people crazy with your enthusiasm for Pi!
8. ExerPise (see what I did there?):
Go for a 3.14 mile run with your Pi loving friends. Convert your regular timed exercise intervals into 3 minute and 14 second intervals. Make a human Pi-ramid (be careful not to drop anybody).
9. Get married:
What could be more romantic than saying "I do" at 1:59 p.m. on March 14? Your love will continue forever just like Pi! Sorry we didn't give you more time to plan this one out. Pi Day 2015 is just a year away.
10. Learn something new:
At it's core, Pi Day is meant to be a celebration of mathematics, science and knowledge. Read an interesting article online and share it with your friends.
