With my younger son (4), he found it easier to dip the bricks into the cement, rather than use the trowel. Placing the doors & windows was a bit tricky for even our older son (6), but then again, this is made for older kids. Altogether, they had fun building and really like the finished product.

Nice idea. However, the cement didn't stick very well when we followed the directions. The walls were unstable and the little gables coming out of the main roof wouldn't stay. Also the cement provided wasn't enough for the second time around. It seemed like a starch product, so I tried to contact the company to see if I could do some at home. They never responded to my email. So we used very soft play dough as the cement instead - worked great! Much better than their cement. We have built and rebuilt many times with the play dough.

This looks like something that will keep my little one busy for HOURS! I have not actually used it yet (it is a Christmas gift), but I have opened it just out of curiosity to see what the pieces look like. The pieces are very small, but that is exactly what I was looking for for my son, who is a very tactile child. This will definitely be among his very favorite gifts this holiday! Mixing building and firehouses is completely brilliant, and I am sure that I will be buying more of these sets.
