Make a Monster

The pieces don't stick as well as I'd like. There aren't very many pieces, I expected a lot more pieces. My son did like it, but is already losing monster parts here and there. They don't stick well enough to the board.

I bought this for a 3 year old's birthday party, and also for a 3 year old for Christmas. Both boys loved the product which made me happy. The only disappointment is that the magnets do not stay on the board very well.

They work better on the refrigerator than the magnet board it came with. I think it is a cool toy that my two year old son enjoys playing with. Good for creative hands on children.

Information about Make A Monster Magnet Set
Posted 1/1/2008 by Paul Duckworth

Rating:

There was a distinct petroleum like smell on the package that is overpowering. I had hoped that a few weeks of airing out would help but it still smells. (Note from Fat Brain Toys: We contacted the manufacturer about the offensive odor of this product and set up a replacement order for our customer.)

Make-A-Monster
Posted 12/27/2007 by K. Rahaman

Rating:

My two boys seem to enjoy playing with their monsters, but one complaint is that several pieces ripped even though I was being extremely careful in removing them from the packaging! They love to make different monsters and it has been used in the car several times already!

Make a Monster Review

Rating:

A fun toy to take in the car or on any other errands. I like the fact that it all packs up into one (handled) case. I wasn't so crazy about having to cut out all the pieces, but for the convenience of a creative, fun activity, which even gets through airport security and is easy to use. I'll tolerate the preparation.

A Vile Odor!
Posted 12/24/2007 by Patricia Corrigan

Rating:

What a disappointment! This was to be the perfect gift for a grandson who loves to create monsters and has a fascination with magnets. When I opened the box, the most vile odor escaped making my eyes burn and my stomach churn. I thought at first somehow turpentine or an oil product had spilled into the box, but discovered it was the plastic case the magnets came in. I put the whole thing outside for a few days hoping this would eliminate the problem - no such luck. As soon as I brought the product back indoors, the whole room began to reek. I will be sending the item back. (Note from Fat Brain Toys: We contacted our customer to offer a replacement item. We also contacted the manufacturer about this issue.)

This Looks Awesome

Rating:

I ordered a couple as gifts. It's colorful, fun-looking, and appears to be a good quality product. The magnet material is good and heavy. It comes very flat, with minimal packaging, making it easy to wrap and to ship. In fact, the packaging is a storage container, too, so that's nice.

Keeping Americans Employed

Perfect for long car trips. My grandson has loved monsters ever since seeing the movie "Monsters, Inc" and this toy depends upon his imagination, which he has a lot of. He uses his brain and creativity in a way I thoroughly enjoy watching.

Really Cute
Posted 7/15/2007 by Fitzgerald

Rating:

My 5-year-old son really enjoys creating different monsters with this magnet kit. I agree with other reviewers that the magnet board should be stronger so that magnets don't fall off your monster creation when the board is held upright.

Very cute monster magnets. They don't stick to the magnetic board terribly well. We haven't had time to play with them on other surfaces yet, but definitely plan to give it a try.

Great For Car Rides!
Posted 8/25/2006 by Joyce Craven

Rating:

These fun, colorful magnets were perfect for those longer-than-usual car trips. My 7 year old is always creating and gets "bored" easily. I was looking for a fun, easy-to-handle, non-electronic, quiet toy for the road. After several boxes of melted crayons, markers that dried out, masterpieces that got sat on...I had to find something else. Make a Monster is so much fun! My son uses the interchangable magnetic monster features to create his own unique creatures. We all have fun naming them and giving them personalities. (My only disappointment was the hassle in getting the board in and out of its protective case.) Still a great deal for the price!

Great for travel

We bought this for our 2 1/2 year old daughter to use on a plane trip. The board is a solid sheet so it's easy for her to work with and the pieces are fun and colorful. We showed her what the idea was, and in no time she was making up her own wacky monsters. She asked to play with it several times while on vacation as well, so it's a hit. The clear envelope it comes in is perfect for carrying/storage.

Make a monster

The children in my day care like to talk about and make up stories about monsters. The make-a-monster kit helps by giving them visual aids to assist them in telling their stories. It is a great product!

I purchased Make-a-Monster for my 3 year old nephew, and he loves it. And as it is with most products Fat Brain Toys sells, his graphic artist parents love playing with it just as much! Keep up the good work.

Review of Make A Monster Magnet Set

Rating:

It's a fun activity for kids with silly senses of humor and good imagination, but it was a little hard to get the pieces out of the sheet they came in and my four year old peeled some of the paper facings off and I had to glue them back on. I tried and had the same problem.

Great Toy
Posted 10/3/2005 by Sherry Schaefer

I bought this for my son. He is almost three. He loves magnets. The toy comes with a magnetic board and the monster face parts. I also purchased a larger magnetic board and two other sets of differnet magnets (one dinosaur and one farm animals). He likes to play with the monster set the best. My older kids even got into the game and made monster faces too!

Cute and colorful!

I ordered this set to use with kindergarten students in an enrichment lesson. The pieces are a little small for what I have planned, but I believe the vibrant colors and interesting pieces will stimulate the students' creativity. I am looking forward to using this set in my classes.

Product review of Make A Monster Magnet Set
Posted 8/27/2005 by Kathryn Rawley

Rating:

A cute toy. My boys like making different monsters. I like that you can put it on the wall to show off your monsters. I would like more pieces to work with. It doesn't take long to put together the different pieces into all the monster combinations possible, then it really isn't much fun for the little ones anymore. Overall a cute toy, but I don't think I would purchase it again.

Good quiet magnet activity for toddlers and up
Posted 6/24/2005 by M. Wilbur

Rating:

I bought this set for my almost-three-year-old son who loves magnetic toys. He really took to the different monster parts and has fun making up his own creations. The set doesn't hold his attention beyond 10 minutes, but I'm guessing that's due more to his age. The amount and quality of the pieces is decent (but prone to bending or peeling if you're not careful removing them from the paper), and the metal board that comes with it is sturdy and thick. Overall, a good purchase and I'd like to see more creative magnet toys like this aimed at helping kids develop their artisitic abilities.

Loved by both young and old.

I purchased this and another item (Kids Story Maker) and are happy with both. The Make-A-Monster was given to a 3 year old. She played with it right away, along with a grandmom who enjoyed it just as much. She was very creative with her designs and everyone wanted to know where we purchased this item. I will be sure to look on this website first when looking for creative and unusual gifts for friends and family.

I bought this for my son as we are planning a long international flight and I think this should keep him entertained. I had the opportunity to look at the make-a-monster kit before I packed it away and it is awesome. It looks fun and educational too.
