My son loves this educational toy. While playing with it myself, I found that the screen could be made "brighter". Just a little suggestion.

Mom of 6 & 7 year olds

I bought this to help my 1st grader improve his speed on addition and subtraction facts. Both kids really like this. They pick it up on their own to play it. A couple of things could be improved. The screen is very dim and hard to read - for me, the kids don't seem to mind. It would be great if the add/subtract facts went to 12 family. Otherwise we are happy with it.

Math Shark

I love the Math Shark and would give it 5 stars if the LCD screen was a better quality. You have to play it under a very good light or you will not be able to see the numbers at all! Math Shark is an excellent tool for kids to improve their math scores and gain confidence. It rewards you with a green light and sound and my daughter just loves that. Fun as you learn and that's great!

A Fun Addition
Posted 4/17/2008 by Megan Schweitzer

Rating:

MathShark is a great addition to our everyday learning. It looks like a hand held game. It acts like a hand held game. My son enjoys playing it and I enjoy the fact that he is learning at the same time! I recommend this to anyone who has a child that does not like doing paper work!

I purchased this item for my granddaughter so she could become more proficient on her math facts. She loves the item and her Mother reports that it is, indeed, helping her to speed up her response time.

A wonderful "toy" for my 10 year old. The only thing we don't like about it is the numbers on the screen should be much clearer.

Disappointed
Posted 12/26/2007 by Carole Adams

Rating:

The idea of the product is fabulous. My daughter was so excited. Until we took it out of the box, put the batteries in, turned it on... and found that the center of the display didn't work. The dead spot affects just about every transaction.
A deadly diagnosis if you are a Math Shark. Our customer returned her defective unit for credit.

We love the MathShark and it's interactive manner for teaching. The learning is fun and gamelike and our kids can't put it down. The various levels have made it quite useful for all of our kids given their different ages and math skills. We would highly recommend this product to any parents who wish to help their children learn and/or increase their math proficiency.

This product is wonderful. My son has learned multiplication so quickly with this. His teacher gives the class timed tests and the math shark has a timing counter on it which really helps him study. He has so much fun using it he doesn't even realize that he is actually studying. The only minor complaint with the math shark is that the read out is hard to see. It would be better if it was more bold. I would recommend the product as a study aid to anybody who would be interested. I didn't give it the highest rating because of the read out.

MathShark is Smart
Posted 6/12/2007 by Brandi Joyner

Rating:

Too bad the display is hard to read. The picture of Mathshark on your website shows the display with big bold numbers easy to read, not even close. However, everything else about this product is a winner.

Math Shark
Posted 6/12/2007 by Homeschool Mom

Rating:

I ordered the Math Shark for my rising fourth-grade homeschooled son to use for summer review of his math facts. I wish I had ordered it earlier this year when he was just learning his multiplication facts! It would have offered a welcome break from the many flash cards and drill sheets we worked on this year. We have had it for a week and his speed has already improved quite a bit. His fifteen-year-old brother has played with it, working on decimals and percentages, and says it is a good workout for his brain. I tried it at several levels and found the higher levels and time challenge made me feel as if my brain was working better when I was done! The Math Shark has an appealing shape and look, so kids of today will see it as "cool" instead of old-fashioned. It is versatile, as it can be used as a calculator when needed, and it will function at multiple levels so all of the family can get a good math workout. It tests all areas of math and repeats missed problems until they are answered correctly. I highly recommend this product.

I have several students struggling to memorize the multiplication facts. A friend suggested MathShark. I puchased one. I noticed a remarkable improvement in the scores of the students who used it, so I purchased three more. My students are able to concentrate on a specific number they have not mastered, for instance, the eight times tables. I have them track their progress by recording their speed. They are able to see instantly an improvement.

Very Good But Needs Updating
Posted 10/4/2006 by Joe McDowell

Rating:

I am testing the Math Shark with a 9 year old boy with major disabilities. He has average intelligence but is terribly frustrated by an extremely short attention span, feelings of failure that result in self-critical tantrums, and an avoidance of tasks where he has memories of repeated failures. His initial response was to play the review as a game. He would use the Math Shark to amuse himself in the doctors office or anywhere else that he did not have access to a GameBoy. His development through levels of the "game" almost immediately included both addition and subtraction and he was intent on moving up in levels. The problems occured when he accidentally entered into advanced levels. The product is the best I have found, but is in need of improvement. Suggestions: sequential levels (like Gameboy format where you cannot advance to a new level without mastering the previous level); better LED display; and for flexability a way to have more than one child's level on memory. A price twice as high would be reasonable with those improvements.

MathShark

Very high quality toy, but a little difficult to use out of the box. It was a gift for a kid celebrating a 5th birthday and he loved it. It was the first toy he wanted to play with. There is a very wide range of difficulty level, which is fantastic for learning.
