I gave this electronics learning set to my grandson for his fifth birthday. He loves it! After doing a few sample projects together, I explained how the board and the pictures are marked with the same grid and that he could use that information to do the projects by himself. He immediately set about working on #5 and with some trial and error, but no frustration, he completed it without my help. He was elated and ready for more. Although he is only 5, it is clear that with over 100 projects of varying degrees of complexity, he will enjoy this set for several years to come.

Super Snap!

My mom bought this for my 8 year old son for his birthday. I love how simple the directions are. He loves how quickly he can make something work! It is clear to understand, and he sees how the circuit works and how to fix it if it doesn't! I would highly recommend this activity to anyone (within the age range) looking for some independant scientific experimentation and fun!

8 year old grandson readily "took" to this toy and assembled several circuit configurations rapidly. He thoroughly enjoys the game and looks forward to figuring out more configurations for this item.

My son received this for his 8th birthday. Ironically, I had purchased him one, too. He loved it so much he wanted to keep both sets! He has spent hours creating things with it. This was his favorite toy out of everything received. I will be buying some for other children I know!

The Snap Circuits Jr. was an excellent gift for my 10-year old grandson. He was very enthused about following all directions for making each Snap Circuits component work and mastered them quickly. It is important to read directons first.
Interested in the science elements, he was excited about taking the set to school to demonstrate various functions for his teacher.
The only improvement for this product is to order the the next larger size Snap Circuit set!

My 5 Year Old is Addicted!

My five-year-old son wants to do a few of the 101 projects every morning and every evening. The brief descriptions of voltage and current and load etc are very good and appropriate for children. It will greatly help however if the parent already understands these concepts and can fill in where the project explanations are thin, and can for example explain exactly what is happening differently between a series circuit and parallel circuit. (The parallel circuit drops 3V on each branch, but the batteries will wear out sooner because of the higher current flow -- this is not explained in the notes.) The three integrated circuits are also not explained in terms of what each pin is for, so this requires some deduction which someone with no electronics experience at all will be hard-pressed to perform. But still I want to stress that my son loves this. We have had some other electronics kits but this is by far the easiest to use and provides a huge variety of experimentation. We are going so fast, even with my five year old, I realize we should have gotten the 300-project version!

I bought this for my 6 year old son on his 5th birthday. So he's been enjoying it for a year now. It's was just a bit challenging for him at the beginning. Now he completes the projects in no time. He likes to show it to his friends too. I am happy with my choice. Will highly reccomend to any one trying to develop multiple skills and knowledge in their children.

My 10 year old engineer in training loves the Snap Circuits toy. It keeps his interest and he loves trying new configurations to get all the lights working. Pretty cool!

The 8th grade grandson set to work immediately, trying to burn out the motor with multiple numbers and types of batteries. He failed to disable Snap Circuit Jr. I knew this was a good toy.
Next, there were efforts to weigh down the spinning wheel, to prevent its turning. Nope, the toy still worked.
The 3rd grade grandson tried other experiments and played with it a long time, returning to it throughout the day.
This is a good toy, strong and interesting. Well done.

A well built toy that was intuitive for my 6 year old nephew to use. The cicrcuits are easy to understand and the experiments were fun to build. Great toy for learning the basics of electrical engineering while allowing a fair amount of creativity.

My grandson loved the Snap Circuit Jr. He tried more things than what were in the book that came with the toy.
His little brother (5Yrs. old) also liked the flying sauscer layout.
We had great fun seeing how high it would go.

Great Rainy Day Fun

We purchased this set for my 10-year-old nephew who is spending spring break with us. He spent most of yesterday playing with it and got it back out right after breakfast this morning to play with some more. I'm wishing now that we had bought a larger set, as spring break is turning into one long rain fest. But so far, he's been happily and profitably occupied.

It's a very well constructed and nice toy. My son was in particular tremendously interested - initially. I think the range of 'gadgets' involved is probably too few. Knowing this, I would have bought a larger version with a broader range of projects.

My 7 year-old nephew loves it! I gave it to him for his birthday and he had done 60 of the circuits by the next day! I'll probably need to get him the non-Jr version for Christmas, this was such a big hit.
The only slight downside (other than it "only" having about 100 circuits described, but it's more his enthusiasm that's making that seem like too few) from a learning toys perspective is that the circuit building is great fun but he didn't always get the point the circuit was trying to make (what a resistor does, what a circuit is, etc). We did read him the text for most circuits, ask him what changed that circuit from the previous one, and other reinforcement techniques, but I'm not sure he absorbed much of that because he was hurrying to build the next circuit. That may be a product of his age too, as he's on the young end for this activity. The doing will teach him better than us reading the text to him ever could, but something to help convey the highlights like summaries of what we've learned from the last 10 circuits could be a nice thing to add. However, the lack of it didn't detract from his enjoyment one bit!

Great concept, not sure about quality

This is a great concept and my 4 year old loves it! However, one of the switches is already broken. We have only had it 2 weeks and he uses it with adult supervision only.

Ask for help and like flipping a switch, the Fat Brain Toys customer service team promptly responds! A replacement part will be shipped direct from the manufacturer for our customer.

He also learn how to follow instructions from from the pictures in the instructions this is great for him I will definitely be back.

I purchased this as a Christmas present for my 5-yr old son. We've had so much fun making all the different projects and learning about electricity, open & closed circuits, resistors and amplifiers that I purchased two more as presents! It is an easy and FUN way to introduce the concept of electricity to children. Both of my boys (I also have a 3-yr old) were explaining concepts to their friends as we played - hands on learining! I would highly recommend it to anyone with inquisitive children.

Love the Circuit board

I bought this for my son's 8th Birthday. He saw it at a friend's house and loves it. All three boys (ages 4, 6 and 8) love to play with the circuit board and make things happen with electricity. It is just the right size, not too many pieces, but they can turn on a light bulb, ring a bell and make a fan go and their favorite, make the fan fly into the air and back down. My oldest son plays with it for hours.

Snap Circuits Jr was a great gift for my 6 year old boy. I walked him through the first project and helped him follow the directions. He took off from there and did the first several projects in the book. I thought the written directions and pictures were at his level and he could figure most of the projects out. This is a great Summer Brain activity while his little Brother naps. He likes to show his accomplishments to the whole family.

great science project

We found this product at the local science olympiad event. My boys (8 and 9 years old) both enjoyed so much that they wouldn't leave the table where it was used as an activity. I wrote down the product and ordered it as a prize for them to participate the science olympiad. My 8 year old boy was impatient to get it delivered and surprizingly delighted with the fast delivery from Fat Brain. I had to set a time limit for the boys to play with the circuits. After woking on several projects, 8 year old one was making his own circuit using copper wire: I had to warn him the wire needs to be insulated with other materials. He said "Still, I won't be electricuted since the voltage is so low".
An extra feature I like about this toy is that it shows real shape of resistance, etc., so that I can teach them how to recognize them in the real world. Highly recommend it.

Educational and fun!

My son received this toy as a gift when he was 5-1/2 years old. He was able to follow the instructions with help. As he got older, he followed the instructions on his own and built his own circuits. The projects are fun and age appropriate. Some of our favorite projects were: make a light bulb turn on, make a siren noise, make it play the "birthday song", fly a disk, and draw circular designs. We have given this toy to many other kids (ages 6-8) as birthday gifts.

This is my 5 1/2 year old's FAVORITE toy from Christmas. It was the first one he wanted to play with at the time, and 3 months later it is still the toy that holds his interest. He takes it on trips with him and proudly shows every one he can the circuits he builds with him.

I bought this set for my children and also got it as a present for their friends and cousins. It was a big success. The set includes 100 experiments and gives a wide opportunity of playing with the circuits. Thanks to the special units (sound detector, music, ...) even relatively simple circuit can offer a big effect, something kids usually appreciate.

This "toy" is awesome! It is teaching my son, who is only 5, all about electricity and how things work. We are a home schooling family and use our games and toys for learning experiences. Snap Circuits Jr. is now my son's favorite toy!

When my daughter's third-grade class started learning about electricity, I remembered Snap Circuits. I bought Snap Circuits Jr for my daughter so that her interest in electronics/electricity would continue and she could have some fun learning more about it. Her 13-year-old sister also loves Snap Circuits, and she and her friends spend lots of time building different projects. The pieces snap together easily, the directions are very easy to understand, and the projects are interesting and fun. This is a great product that both my girls enjoy. We'll probably get the larger set now so that we can build even more interesting electronic projects!

This toy is great for kids that love to build, see and experience how things work, like our little engineer. It's really neat because it has multiple functions, such as sound, movement (fan) and light! I would totally recommend the Snap Circuits Jr. to any electronlically minded child!

I wasn't sure how well this set would go over or how sturdy it would be. Thanks to his scientist dad, my grandson is into science and electronics, so maybe that's why being under 8 was no problem. The first day we did many projects together; by the second, he was creating his own. He has spent the 6 days since receiving it playing with it first thing in the morning and last thing at night--and many minutes in between.
The set is very sturdy; only the little fan seems as if it could be higher quality, even though it has to be light to work properly.
Looking forward to buying him a more advanced set in the future.

The snap circuits jr toy is great and educational. My son is 7 and he likes it but needed help with the directions. After he gets used to it I think he will be able to follow the directions himself. One rather annoying thing is that some of the pieces are different color in the instructions from the actual piece. That makes it a little confusing for a 7 year old!

We got this for our son for Christmas, who is almost five. Everybody in the house, including grandparents, have had a good time try out the "experiments". After completing an experiment, my husband will take our son around the house and show him how other circuits work in similar ways. This is a great toy for everyone.

The products I purchased are Christmas gifts, they appear to be well made, and came packaged so there was no damage to any of the boxes. I've purchased from Fat Brain before and even though I may pay a little more, I find the merchandise to be top notch.

I gave Snap Circuits Jr. to my 7 year old nephew as a gift. He loved it and his mother told me he played with it all morning. The next day, he brought it over to show me what he had built with it. He showed me how he could use battery power to make a fan go and to turn on a light. The connections and directions seemed very simple and easy to use. I loved that it was educational AND fun!

This product was easy for children to use, sturdy and actually works. I will gladly build on this project! My husband (an electrical engineer) was very pleased with the design as well. I don't know who had more fun with it! 5 yr old, 9 yr old or 43 yr old! ( I purchased it for the 9 yr old).

This is a very good educational thing or toy. My 6 year old son like building the circuits especially the one with the lamp and the one with the motor and fan blade. This thing is a perfect simplified design that my son was able to capture the idea of building the simple circuits.
I'm one of those people who has a background in "Ohm's Law," so I really like having this educational thing, and this is a good tool for me to teach my son at an early age about Voltage, Current, Resistor, Load, etc. in a fun and entertaining way.
Good job to you creator of Snap Circuits Jr.!!!

Review for Snap Circuits Jr.

Well, my sons opened this Christmas morning and put it aside. My 10 year old said he thought it might be "lame". When he opened it he was so excited to put it together and make the different things he spent 2hours sitting playing with it. The great thing is that his little brother, who is 7, sat right next to him and helped. It is such a pleasure to see them play together with this great toy. I know that they can use the knowledge they
gain from playing with the circuits in Science class at school.

product is excellent. Easy enough to use that little if any adult assistance is needed after 1st go through. Tons of fun for whole family as you create doorbell's, flying fans etc. My daughter loved this product so much we bought the add on kits for her as well!

My 4 1/2 year old son is very interested in anything 'engineerish'. He loves puzzles, gears, things that you put together, etc. I was so excited when I saw this product, but was nervous I might be so excited for it that it would disappoint me in the end. Not so. It was probably his favorite Christmas present. Here is why I love this product:
1) User-friendly and intuitive. I picked up on how to use it immediately and was able to show my son with just a few circuits. He still needs a little help with where to start on the circuit board, but he can very easily see what pieces should be put where, and what needs to change if he does it wrong the first time.
2) Instant reward. My son could do some of the simple circuits to very quickly feel like he was really doing something cool (making the light go, the siren go off, the propeller fly away). Sometimes things that will hold his attention like this have such a long wait time between when we start and finish that, while he likes the result, it's a little anti-climactic at the end because it's taken so long. This is different, it probably only takes a couple of minutes from start to finish for the easier circuits.
3) Pieces are ergonomic and safe. I've heard others say that they had something similar back in the day and they had wires popping out, etc. This is totally safe, all the wires are covered well and easy to snap in.
4) Well built. I have also heard others say they bought a different brand of this same thing and it has a cardboard bottom that bends and eventually just falls apart. This has a hearty plastic bottom and the pieces are well built.
5) It keeps my son occupied with something that stretches his brain AND imagination. There's always something new to do, to think about, etc.
I really couldn't be happier with this toy. My son wants to do something new with it the moment the last circuit is built!

My son received this for Christmas, and while I wouldn't say he plays with it constantly, it is definitely a hit present. He initially wanted assistance in not only selecting a pattern to build, but also in building it. As his confidence grew (and I think as he saw the cool things he could do) he began building on his own. He is 7 right now. He gets easily frustrated when he makes a mistake, but luckily my husband can very easily set him straight (where I would have to review all the design and connection points, etc) so he doesn't get stuck for long, and is therefore still pretty enthusiastic about using it. I like the design, think the set came with plenty of options to build, and think that while right now he isn't completely understanding WHY he has to connect the circuits in a particular order, that eventually that will come as he makes mistakes and/or branches out from the booklet. Great gift! Best if done with a parent for the younger child

We purchased this product as a gift for a recipient who we will never meet (TOYS FOR TOTS), a charitable program that provides gifts for children. I inspected the product before delivering it to the local collection point and immediately recognized the quality of components included. As a retired electronics technician, I feel qualified to state that this product will be a valuable tool for providing an introduction to anyone desiring to step into the amazing world of electrical knowledge.

Our seven year old just loves this toy! Not only did he start racing through the projects, but in the first 48 hours he is already making up circiuts of his own. Very well constructed and easy to use instructions with great graphics allows kids to work on their own or with a parent. We will order the larger kit soon.

I bought this Snap Circuits Jr. because for my six year old because he showed a lot of curiosity about how electronic toys work. In two hours, we went through the first 6 plans. My son rarely stays playing with the same toy for more than an hour. This toy, however, had his attention and kept his mind working. He even added some conjecture to the ideas set forth in the instructions.

My son really likes this toy and his brothers were very anxious to have him give them a turn with it. After helping him with one or two set ups, he was able to do it on his own. The instructions were clear and explained the parts of a circuit. The only issue is the fan flies right off when the circuit is completed. Maybe it is supposed to do that, because Fat Brain sent me another one, but it did the same thing. The boys thought is was great fun to catch it. My son is 7 years old and this toy was very appropriate for him to use on his own.

Excellent toy for my 8 year-old grandson, whose cousin already had it. It was reasonably priced birthday gift. His dad had to get him going at first, and then he and his 9 year-old brother went to town.
I recommend it for any child who enjoys building things, oragami, Legos or tinkering.

Purchased this as a gift and found out the child already had it but also purchased the larger set for my son and it is wonderful. Even Dad enjoys helping and little sister wants to play with it. It should provide many hours of fun for our kids.

I love this set! The directions are simple, with colorful diagrams to help accurately assemble the projects. The pieces seem durable enough, and have held up to lots of play already. So much fun, both of my sons (ages 7 and almost 5) have had tons of fun with this!

My almost eight year old son is very interested in what he calls "electrical pieces" and is constantly trying to make things out of old, broken objects so I thought this would be the perfect gift. He loved it, and set to work right away. The Snap Circuit is well built and easy to use (unlike some similar products I've seen). It is very educational as well. Unfortunately, My son was so excited (and I was busy with Christmas morning) that he didn't take the time to follow the directions EXACTLY (as I'd told him to do), the first few projects went well, but within an hour it stopped working, apparently he'd blown a circuit by looking at the pictures and not reading EVERYTHING. A tip for parents of younger children, help them read ALL instructions, step by step.

We bought this product for our 6 year old son's birthday and he commented that he likes to "put it together" and "the way things move". He also likes the sounds.
One caveat is that my son has only just begun to use this product.
The color of the whistle is red in the manual, but orange in the set. A minor point, but it did cause some confusion.

Toy is well designed and directions easy to follow. My son is 6 and having an absolute ball with the toy. He has built several of the projects and already asking if we can buy add-ons. He is full of questions about electricity and how it works through water. Good thing I love toys like this too and can help explain. For those that don't know, maybe there could be a parent section to help explain. Maybe that section exists and I just missed it. I'm sure we will be adding to the kit.

My grandaughter played with snap circuits all day after she first received it. It fadded off with the busy-ness of her life and she uses it less now. She enjoys it immensely when she does use it though, and more to the point, she learns a great deal from it. It is a toy that I also enjoy "playing" with her and that is very important. (Tea parties can get a little boring!) I highly recommend this toy and the two of us are looking forward to the more advanced edition in the future.

My daughter is four years old so it hasn't been used as intended for older kids. Easy to understand instructions and concepts. I give her instructions on what to do with the pieces and she thinks it's pretty cool to watch and play with the results after she's put it together.

My daughter loves this toy. She is 7 years old and she won't put it down, unless we are playing with the flip hang man, which we also purchased from fat brain toys. She has been playing with circuit jr. For hours on end. I love this toy. I also love he fact that boys and girls can play with it! And the price it perfect!

We got this for our five year old daughter as a fun way to explore electronics and build cool things.
The parts seem well made and fit well together. The instructions are clear and all projects that we did all worked. It was fun for the whole family and I like that our daughter who is very much into pink girlish stuff was using the set by herself and proudly brought it with her.
While it's recommended for older kids, it seems fine to use at an earlier age. The snaps aren't too hard and the instructions for the earlier projects are understandable at age 5 or six. Most of the projects are more challenging and require adult help or are for ages 8+.
There are also descriptions on what each part does and how the set works that are interesting for older kids and adults.
The only downside is that the instructions warn you not to create short circuits as it can break the parts. The instructions on what a short circuit is are limited and my physics knowledge is too rusty to judge. So this has put a damper on the kids just freely creating a set up with the parts. We've let them do it without the batteries but they'd love to see what would happen with a battery. Maybe when they understand they system better they'll be able to judge.

Gave to my 7 year old grandson for Christmas at our home. He enjoyed playing with it and was soon setting up the circuits with minimal direction. He also enjoyed jsut experimenting with what happended when he changed the circuits.

I bought this for m 7 year old son. He enjoys it immensely! My husband and son have spent a lot of time playing with this toy. My son also couldn't wait to share it with my uncle and cousin who came over later that day. I think the "big boys" had as much fun as he did.

My 7 year old son and his Engineer Dad, did not stop building different circuit combinations all day long on Christmas. Next day headed to Grandma's and he had to bring it along as well. When asked he said it was his favorite gift of all. Dad loved it too, showing him all the different combinations. A wonderful gift.

We purchased Snap Circuits Jr. for our 6 year-old granddaughter hoping it would spark her interest in science. The results are amazing, she is now absolutely enthralled by how electricity works. The step by step instructions are easy to follow, everything is color coded and labeled, and once completed the result is instant success. The complexity of the projects is incremental and builds on previous experience so the challenge of trying something new is not overwhelming. The quality of the materials is also excellent and will withstand lots of use. This turned out to be one of her favorite Christmas gifts.

Our grandson (8yrs) really enjoyed learning how this works with his pop pop who is an electrician. Who knows, could be the beginning of his future in electronics? He was thrilled with working the fan and launching it.

My son is so interested in how things work and is a very hands on kid. Im glad I was able to find this for him. There are so many different things he can do. As a child, his father would break things a part just to see how things worked from the inside so this is definitley something they enjoy doing together.

We bought this for our 7 year old son who is very creative and geared more toward imagination and learning. He loves the design element behind each of the "projects" and lights up with excitement after each project that's built. The pieces are very well marked and organized along with an exceptional design diagram per project. We are VERY pleased with this purchase (as usual from FBT). A definite buy for any child who likes to build or is interested in how things can operate!!

I think these snap circuit toys are great fo the mechanically hands on type of kid. They require concentration, reading and mechanical ability They are not for every child though. It takes a certain type to achieve something with them, costly but worthwhile

Our 6 year old can't seem to get enough of this. He builds the same thing over and over again but is entertained by it every time. I love that he is able to do the easy circuits without help - giving him confidence and something to be proud of.

My son (5yrs) is still alittle young for the toy, and does not yet read. He can still follow the diagrams and enjoys putting the projects together. Ultimately, he sees it more like a puzzle that has a party trick once completed. At this point, his attention is not held enough for him to occupy him along like leggos might, but we enjoy doing it together, and hopefully he will get more out of it further down the road.

My 4 year old boy loves his Snap Circuits Jr. At first he needed me to help put it together, but now has caught on and will play it for long periods of time. He loves learning how things work and this game has really hit the mark! Even my 3 year old likes Snap Circuits jr. He requires a little more help, but loves to tell me that the reason it works is because it's a "complete circuit". I feel like they are really learning while playing.

This is fantastic. My sons will not put it down. There are so many things to do and so much to discover. Every minute they come running to me to show me something new that they made happen.
Stimulates the mind and the senses and allows for tremendous imagination.

I have given my 7 year old grandson Snap Circuits Jr. I did the first two demonstrations with he and his 5 year old brother. My husband has enthusiastically continued from there. I love the way each piece is numbered and has a home in the box. They do need help at this point, but this is set up so any adult will enjoy giving assistance. Each demonstration is a progression in learning and I foresee them growing
into the additional parts and pieces available to expand this set.
This is simplicity in learning.

Wanting something different from the ordinary to do with my grandson, I was intrigued by this as a Christmas gift. My grandson is just seven years old but very curious in the area of science. He has gotten this out many times in the short few weeks since the holidays. He really enjoys the different projects with a positive end result of something working correctly! Thanks!

Purchased for 6 year-old daughter. We weren't sure what she'd think, but she was so excited she immediately started working through the different experiments with my husband, me or grandparents supervising. She's really enjoyed it! Great value.

My son had seen this toy last year and recognized it when we were sent one of your catalogs. He picked it out and I had my parents give it to him for xmas. He plays with the Snap Circuits and one other toy the most. He just goes back and forth from the lego set to the Snap Circuits and back again. I love it because it is a "toy," but he is learning and reading the instruction manual and using his brain. We may get the next level up next year. thank you for giving an alternative to all the mind numbing, movie related, and violent video game toys that are out there pushed onto these boys day after day. Our boys deserve better and your intelligent and fun toys help that.

Our 8 year old son LOVES this!!! As a parent I like the detailed pictures to guide the child through each set up. I also like how each part is labeled so our son can gather the pieces he needs very easily. It's a great way to get kids interested in electricity too. Our son's goal is to get through the entire book but he's been setting up his own circuits too which is great! This was one of his favorite Christmas gifts! He loves the propeller and is so impressed with being able to get the lights on and to hear all the sounds he can make! GREAT PRODUCT!

My son (6 yrs old) picked this toy from a catolog with some encouragrement from me so I wasn't sure if he'd really like it. What a hit! Although he needs a bit of help to read each 'project', he got the hang of it right away and he has been doing his own circuits as much as following the ones in the the book. A great gift!

I thought I was creative with this purchase. He received the exact same gift from his grandfather so we have two of the same product.
It is a bit of work to keep a boy focused, normally. He is channeled in with the product and exceptionally excited when he finishes a product. I would almost like to trade both of the gifts in for the bigger circuit board.

Our 6 year old son LOVES this game! It looked a bit daunting at first, but he took his time, followed directions and completed several of the projects with limited help from mom and dad. He loved the fact that he actually made something "work" which is a huge accomplishment for a 1st grader. It's a winner!

This is one of the favorites our 7 year old daughter received from Santa. On the scale it shows girls don't seem to have a big interest, but our daughter loves it! My only problem is I bought the samll on not the big one. She will be receiving the big one for her birthday! This toy is very creative, educational, and hands on .... good for her and me!

My son received this toy for Christmas and we have had a great time building the projects. It is an easy way to learn the basics of electricity (for both of us) and building parallel circuits, circuits in series, etc. My one complaint is that the product should include teaching material on the topics and not require you to purchase it online. Great educational toy!

My six year old loves playing with Snap Circuits, jr. I love it because, the directions and sample circuits given are easy to copy. My six year old is so excited to complete the circuits alone, and then show me what he can do. He feel so independent!
He likes making the sirens, lights and fans go! Wonderful product that fosters independence.

I knew the Snap Circuits toy was right up my son's alley when I purchased it however I had no idea he would love it so much. It was incredable to watch him follow the directions to build a circut that lit a lightbulb and watch his proud face as he watched his accomplishment. Only then to disassemble it and move on to another project. This toy has endless possibilities, easy to follow directions that get harder as you learn to build your own circuts. I will be buying an advanced kit in the future.

My grandson is 5 and even tho the age on the snap circuits, jr said 8, it was something he could do with an adult. I am told the main reason is because the pictures are 2 dimentional not 3-D. He was easily able to follow the pictures to create the project.

We bought this for our five year old grandson and he loves it! The first thing he built by himself then he and my husband sat together and had a ball making one thing after another. It seems like the instructions are clear enough that a five year old can figure some of them out on their own which is good critical thinking.

I bought this for my 5 year old daughter. When I received the shipment I was concerned because the box said ages 8+, but my 5 year old loves it.
The instructions are clear, and my daughter can follow the pictures well enough to put the projects together herself with help from a grownup. She especially enjoys the alarm and music chips. As she gets older she will be able to learn more about the science behind it.
This isn't a toy for every child. My 7 year couldn't care less about it. But a child who enjoys building with blocks and learning about electricity will enjoy it.

Our six-year-old first grade son LOVES this toy. He received it as a Christmas gift and has not put it down since. He is naturally very interested in science and chemistry. (He already has his own microscope and makes his own slides and performs simple chemistry experiments.) This toy was a perfect fit for him. At first we helped him build the circuits and now he is doing everything on his own. He is even inventing his own circuits. He is constantly playing with this and is always wanting to show us his latest new circuit that he has invented. I am already planning to take this kit into my fifth grade classroom when I am teaching about simple electric circuits. My students (10 and 11 yr olds) will have a ball with this.

My grandson loves this early Christmas present. It is a great indoor activity. Since he has learned to read, he loves reading directions and putting things together. With this toy, he can seel actual results of his efforts, and with over 100 items to build, he will never get bored with this. I highly recommend this, and when my other grandson gets a bit older, you can bet I will be buying this product again.

It reminded me of the old school circuit sets i had gotten when I was a child. Now I can share that with my daughter. She is curious about how things work, so thought this was perfect for her. She is always creating or inventing things with her toys or items in the house. I see this as a way to foster that creativity while she learns the how.

An excellent product. From what I have read the toy has recieved awards and I say they are well deserved.
The toy is very well built. The pieces are very sturdy and really snap together properly. The instruction manual, which I personally believe to be the the most important part of the toy, is very simple and easy to use. By following in order the different projects that can be created you learn step by step the basics of electronics.
Overall we are very happy and indeed impressed with the quality and ingenuity of the product. I would definately recommend it, and do plan on moving on to the more advanced versions.

We also got the Solar Physics set for his brother and found out that both toys will work together - so one can use his solar panels to power the Snap Circuits! How incredibly awesome!

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my nephew, who is going to be eight in a few weeks. He called me yesterday to tell me that he had already put together 17 circuits - all by himself - and thought the gift was "really cool" - his words, not mine. My brother (his father) then got on the phone and told me that as soon as my nephew opened the box, he started putting things together and was completely enthralled with it for hours. It is definitely a hit and I'm already thinking of expanding the set he got for Christmas with an additional purchase for his birthday.

My son is 8 and has a love for science and mechanics in general. He LOVED this toy. Out of all of his Chrismas presents, he said that this one was his favorite, and has asked for one of the bigger Snap Circuit kits for his birthday. This gift was very age appropriate, the diagrams in the book are extremely easy to follow, and he loves being able to learn and tinker with some of the basic fundamentals of electricity. This product is sturdy, labeled well, easy to use, and gets 2 big thumbs up from me and my son. Many of the experiments aren't exactly super cool and action packed, but my son could care less. He just loves the fact that he can build the circuits and they work. He was thrilled about learning the principles behind the more mundane activities, and being able to produce the effects for himself. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of cool activities in the book, as well. After he did several diagrams and got the fundamentals down, he started designing his own circuits, and he LOVED that! I highly recommend this toy; it's well worth the money! Great toy at a great price; excellent value!

This is the first electronics kit my son (9 years old) has gotten. He (and his grandfather) had a great time working with it. I like that it is easy enough for him to do by himself. However, I think he will want a more involved/exciting version very soon.

My 6 yr old son and we walked him through doing the first 3-4 projects. Not only did he get the hang of it and enjoyed seeing how electricity flows and makes things work, but as was probably the intention, it spawned other questions about all the gadgets involved - the fan and siren and light bulb. His dad played with it more than he did that first day! It is a fantastic toy, well worth the money. He hasn't stopped playing with it. The only thing I'd caution is to watch out for toddlers getting hold of these parts. Not only is it dangerous for them, but if you loose a part, you won't be able to do a lot of the projects. I'll be researching how to get spares as my 6 year old is still learning about being careful with toys. I have already recommended this to friends and family.

I gave Snap Circuits as a gift to my grandson. He loves it. It's made well. The instruction are easy to read, with parts that are easy to assemble. It's great to see my grandson using his head, hands & his imagination. I like the idea that he is learning while he is playing and he doesn't even know he's learning. He will, I'm sure, be enjoying many more hours of educational play. He will use, many times over, what he learns, from just this one toy.

We ordered Snap Circuits Jr. Plus one other item for our grandson from Fat Brain Toys for Chanukkah who is 8yrs old. He love it! So many different ways to keep their bright minds actived. Not only did he enjoy working on the board, his 11 yr old brother wanted to work with it as well. It is a winner in our family & we recommend it highly.

My son has been playing with it nonstop since he received it 3 days ago. He's built many of the 100+ designs in the manual as well as experimenting himself with different arrangements. Once he figured out the basic mechanisms, he started building on the basic designs, modifying them to test out various hypotheses. He's constantly calling me over to where he is playing to show me what he's built and to explain how they work and why different things are happening. He told me yesterday that this is "the best Hanukkah present ever."
My only complaint is that the presence of this product in our home has hindered our ability to get out the door to school in the morning (smile).
This is a wonderful open-ended toy for a child who is curious and capable of experimenting once given some basic instruction.

This is a wonderful, educational, age-appropriate toy/activity for our seven-year old son. He is generally able to follow the directions on his own and thoroughly enjoys doing the experiments. While he is able to do the experiments on his own, we enjoy helping him with them as well- particularly the ones involving water! With one hundred experiments included with Snap Circuits, Jr., this toy will definitely keep our son engaged and learning for a long time!

The product quality and intuitive design was far better than what I expected. Both my kids, 6 and 12, took to it immediately and by next day were putting together the more complex of the circuits. I am planning to buy a few more for gift purposes. An excellent buy for any one looking to get their kids started with electronics and basic priciples of electricity.

Product is cool... I had something similar -- but way more complicated as a kid. I recall building a radio and thought it was really neat, but never building anything else because of how delicate and complicated it all was. This product is not as advanced (it is the "Jr" version after all) but easy to use and well designed. My 6 year old loves and my 4 year old is beginning to catch on to it too.

This is a review of a gift for my great-nephew. I have looked and read and observed the overall and general quality of the instructional Manual . This manual is very good and clearly displays warnings and troubleshooting for beginners and troubleshooting for advanced for persons. This manual clearly displays very good pictures and very good instructions. Because I am not going to open the parts which covered and sealed, I do not give this an excellent rating. But the excellent quality of the manual does seem to indicate a very good product.

My children and I absouletly LOVE Snap Circuits Jr. As soon as we opened the package, both my 8 year old daughter and 5 year old son were immediately excited about it. We sat down right away and built the first three circuits. They were fairly easy to do and the directions were clear. My son, even though he is 5, is extremely interested in it and wants to make his own projects. Due to the chance he could ruin pieces of this set, I have let him know that this is a toy that has to be done with an adult. I am sure this toy will be even more fun for him once is is older and able to read the directions for himself.

My 6-year old son is very good at building LEGO sets, but once the spaceship is assembled, the challenge is over. Some LEGO sets fall apart easily, or are too fragile for a 6-year-old's idea of fun. This set offers him and his 8 year old cousin a set of projects that are built following simple diagrams, and ALSO fun to play with and improvise. They built a fort then built an alarm for it with snap circuits.

My eight year old son really liked this toy from the the first time he saw it and spent quite a bit of time creating different circuits, although he had never heard of the toy before and it was not on his must have list. He plays with it often. He is learning a lot about electronics and how to complete the circuits to make the bulb light up, or have the police siren sound, etc. The toy comes with a book containing 101 pre-designed projects, or the child can design his/her own. I would highly recommend it for children 8 years old and older, and especially potential and budding electronics techies. Parents, this is one toy that you do not have to spend hours putting togther before your child can enjoy it.

We bought this as a gift for our 10-year-old nephew who has every toy under the sun. After he opened the Snap Circuits Jr kit, he sat down and played with it all night. (His 8-yr-old brother looked longingly at the kit and said he wished he could build with it too.) During our dinner (and well after), he'd build the different projects and proudly show them to us. He thanked us over and over for this gift and said it was his favorite. It was such a hit with our nephew!

I grew up with the traditional electronic kits. With the tangle of wires, the little metal springs to fuss with, and so many broken circuits. You could never find the wire that wasn't quite touching the spring. This kit is a total re-think of electronic kits. The snaps are really the trick.

My 7 year old son is enjoying building different "inventions" of Snap Circuits Jr. When he's not following instructions, he's beginning to attempt making his own. The quality of the product is great. The packaging and storage is fantastic as well. I especially like that there are other kits and accessories that can be added onto the existing product. I only wish that it were made in USA and that the instructions would explain why and how something is working. Rather than just instructions to put it together. Regardless, it seems like a toy that will last a long, long time!

Snap Circuits is great! I had a similar thing when I was young, and when I saw this, I had to get it to help teach my son about electronics. Our grandson loves Snap Circuits. He has spent quite a bit of time trying the samples in the booklet as well as making up some of his own. So far, the parts seem to be quite durable. We highly recommend this product.

I ordered this for my 14 year old grandson, who enjoyed it, but my 8 year old was still explaining it to me and creating circuits with it instead of unwrapping other presents Christmas morning. It is a terrific idea, well constructed. I'd highly recommend it.

I gave my 8 year old son this kit. First, he had to get the hang of following a grid, now he's working on getting the hang of "layering" the parts. He got through the first ten projects with some supervision, and then struck out on his own. My only rule was that he had to always put the blue snap wires on his battery pack before hooking anything else up...explaining that it only works if he can get the power to flow in a circle, or, as the case may be, a rectangle. He was able to put together a light and some sounds on his own. He thanked me about ten times. For an 8 year old, I expect that you have to be close by to mentor the child. For an 8 year old, I think the projects increase in difficulty at a fast rate.

My nine year old adores this product. It's a lot of fun, and I get a chance to explain some of the concepts behind it. My only caveat is that sometimes the project just doesn't work. Did we build it incorrectly? I don't think so, but, then again, maybe we did. It looks like we did it right from the diagram. All in all, a wonderfully realized learning experience that is much more intuitive and easy to operate than the clunky kits I had as a kid thirty years ago.

I ordered this for my 7 year old daughter, who is mildly interested in science and such. She, as well as my 4 year old son, love it and think it's pretty cool. I agree, it is cool. We've only done a few of the simple projects do far, but it's been great. Directions are fairly simple, though even my 7 year old needed assistance to get the hang of it. I highly recommend this product.

The recipient, an 11 year old boy, immediately grasped the concept and began rapidly to go through all of the projects. He loved the toy so much we are going to order the larger set for him. We were surprised how quickly he understood what to do, even though he never had anything like this before. The only problem arose when he built the motor that ran the propeller. He was looking down as he pressed the start switch, and the propeller flew of the shaft and cut his nose. He was in good humor about it, as were his parents. He continued to build projects after the wound was bandaged. I checked out the shaft, and observed it was hard to determine if it was securely fastened. Perhaps a warning should suffice? I think this toy is wonderfully conceived and for the most part extremely well designed. I am a retired electronics engineer, so I think I am qualified to assess the educational value of this toy as A+. We will order the large set soon.

I bought this for my nephew's 7th birthday. He wasn't too impressed with the packaging, but once I started playing with it he showed interest. After I put together the UFO circuit, (the product comes with a booklet with dozens of circuits to get you started), and the propeller spun off the board and 8 feet into the air - he and his friends got all excited. I left them alone at that point to work out the circuits together. I was impressed with the design. The pieces are easy to handle. The directions are simple enough to follow for younger kids because of the grid board. My nephew likes the game Battleship so I compared it to that game and that was enough to get him started. When one circuit that accomplishes two things, spins a propeller and lights a bulb, wasn't doing either, one of my nephew's friends managed to deduce it was because the small lightbulb wasn't in its socket properly. While they don't realize it they've seen evidence of serial circuits, so if the concept is ever explained in the abstract to them they'll have this experience to relate to it. It's a great toy. It's educational but it will also get played with without parental intervention. It's simple enough for a 7 or 8 year old to snap together a simple circuit but its real value is generating that sense of awe at how it all works, and the fact that they were involved with making something awe-inducing really gets them excited.

The diagrams were fabulous and it was very easy (maybe too easy) for him to match the pictures to make it work. The explanations on why (for an 8 year old boy) were too wordy and text was small so he wasn't interested in reading why things worked the way they did.

Very easy to do. Right away things worked with little effort. It is so easy that older kids (10+), though liking instant results, are done with it in 30 minutes. That is ok too. It would be great if this had add-ons for more complex mechanisms.

As a child, I fondly recall having a mess of wires, batteries and small light bulbs and such. Figuring out how this all works became part my lifelong understanding of how things work. I was seeking to recreate that experience for my child, and I found it in this item. My 5 year old daughter (below the minimum recommeded age) has assembled a light and flying saucer. After just a few sessions, she understands the nature of a curcuit, and can troubleshoot when her assembly does not work. There is a lot for both me and my daughter to learn with this. It will keep teaching us for several years. My only wish is that there were a variable switch included (to dial the light or motor speed up or down.)

My 8 year old opened this gift today and spent almost 2 hr. building the circuits. My 13 year old kept leaving his homework to see what was next. Even my 16 year old will learn and enjoy going through the circuits (albeight a good deal faster and with greater understanding of the clearly defined objectives).

This was a gift to an 8 year old. The snap together pieces were easier to use than the old connect the wires method on the similiar kit I had as a child. The giftee seemed very pleased with it. He played with it for a good portion of the afternoon. He was following the projects in the instruction book, and, I was most impressed with, experimenting on his own with different configurations. I felt he was really learning something about electronics with this toy.

Solid, Needs Fewer Sound Chips, More Components

Very good toy. The snap connections are clever, and easy. I'm showing it to all my kids, and plan to purchase the upgrade kit for it, once this one is played out. Complaints are: The kit comes with three different sound chips ("alarm", "music", and "space war"). Upon reading the book of experiments, it becomes obvious that the goal of "101 experiments" was reached by replicating the same circuit but with a different choice of sound chip. Yawn. I would have preferred just one sound chip (some of the notes in the "music" chip are horribly off-pitch, so not that one), and something else in the place of the other two sound chips. Plus, the sound chips have a bit of the "and then a miracle happened" quality - rather than fostering understanding of basic circuits. Instead, how about a component that could be used as a simple volt-meter (perhaps implemented as a row of LEDs?), some sort of a potentiometer, or even an assortment of resistors? The push-button switch is glitchy; the slide switch is fine. How about an old-fashioned knife switch? (Perhaps one that is double-throw?) My hearing is atrocious, yet the whistle chip seems far too quiet. One of my kids put the motor in a circuit in its place, and somehow the windings/magnets of the motor made more noise than it. (Still mystified by that one.) I'm still keeping the parts organized in the original packaging, but the tray that holds the parts is annoying. I have fat fingers, and the slots that hold the slender pieces are too narrow for me to easily pluck out the pieces.

This is a great toy for kids interested in exploring connections, circuits and electronics. Our son has played extensively with raw materials such as wires, connectors, lightbulbs and switches, and he's always enjoyed them. The downside has always been that his creations, while functional, are a tangle of wires and components. Snap circuits allows for a much more organized design and faster construction, allowing him to try many new things more easily.

We gave this as a gift to my son for his 8th birthday. He just loves it. Since it snaps together it is something he can do on his own just by following the simply diagrams. However, he likes me to read the details of why it's working or possibly not working. This is a great tool for any child that likes to build. I'm sure in the future he will want some of the larger Snap Circuit projects.

This toy reminded me of the Build 101 Electric Things type toy I had when I was young, but it's come a long way from striping wires and coils. My nephew really enjoyed the 'copter' blade and motor. It should be a helpful tool in teaching young children the basics of electricity and maybe a little physics to boot.

I got this for my son's 6th birthday. He is so interested in how things work. This product is great. The pieces are very durable (great for a 6 year-old boy). Our son received an electronics kit for Christmas. Either fortunately, or unfortunately, he wore it out fairly quickly. Therefore, we wanted to get him another kit, but yet wanted one that would last longer and provide more experiments. In researching the various science kits on the internet, we found this one. The quality and type of experiments are great. He loves it and can use it time and time again without the worry of wearing in out like the last one. This is a wonderful kit at a great price and the quality seems to be superior to anything else on the market!

My son chose this gift using birthday money. He absolutely loves it and has been able to build and create many of the activities in the book. The book comes with over 100 ideas and the directions are simple enough for a 7 year old to follow. The snaps fit together easily, making this toy very suitable for the age. The book also gives some explanation as to how things work and why. This is highly recommended for kids who love science and want to learn more about electricity and electrical circuits.

We purchased this item as a gift for our 9 year old son. He was easily able to follow instructions from the book. It didn't take him long to make his own combinations of circuits. The pieces are good quality and we like how the box is made to fit the pieces so they can be put back easily. We are sure he is going to ask for the "Pro" set for Christmas so he can make more things.

I ordered Snap Circuits Jr. and Snap Circuits Pro at the same time, both as gifts for my team at work (We're a Systems Engineering Organization). They were immediately opened and played with and we all really enjoy them. The Jr. by itself would probably not hold adult attention for as long (in terms of weeks of play) as the Pro set, just because there aren't as many things to build. It's well constructed and well designed, and with the booklet we were able to get instant gratification by building cool things that we didn't necessarily understand. I do believe people will spend time thinking and talking about how the more complicated circuits work, which will be good for team-building and also good to broaden their knowledge of technology.

My husband has this for his science classes at school. Our son loves to play with it whenever Gary brings it home, so we thought we'd get it for him for Christmas. I'm sure he will LOVE it! He'll have his own to play with and won't have to ask Daddy for his all the time.
Great toy for explorers!

We purchased this toy for our curious son for his 8th birthday. He has never had a toy like this before, so it is a new experience for him. He's been playing with it constantly since then. The directions are easy enough for him to follow, and the experiments are fun to do. He is learning so much but having so much fun, it doesn't feel like "learning"!

Our granddaughter is 2+ yrs old and received this as a Christmas gift. This is the gift she goes to most frequently, even though she has many,many new toys to choose from. She experiments with different styles and colours, but seems to keep coming back to the ones that work best together. She is particularly interested in the hats and shoes. I highly recommend this for any little girl. She doesn't seem to want to use the stands, but they may be a variation that catches her attention down the road. Toy is well made, no rough edges, will stand up to years of use.

It was a gift for my 7 year old grandson and I am going to see him this weekend and find out how he is enjoying the gift. My daughter thought he'd love it and she is always right on these subjects.

this is a Christmas gift for my grandson, so he hasn't seen it yet. But, his father and I are very excited to have found an interesting quality toy that doesn't require a TV or a joy stick. An educational fun toy is always a treasure.

I bought this present for the 9th birthday of my middle granddaughter.
She was able to put the circuits together with ease. It was very satisfying for her. She probanly could have done it too when she was younger, but to understand electricity is not thsat easy.

It's actually great. Being an engineer, I gave this to my three year old and the two of us had a blast snapping the circuits and talking about what's happening. Child friendly, child safe, and unique!

My children love this toy! I bought it for my ten year old son, but my 7 year old daughter has taken it over! The instructions are clear and the projects are fun.
