Great Gift For 30 Year Olds!

It doesn't matter what age you are, ant farms are always fun. This one is great because you don't have to worry about food and water. I gave a set of two as a gift to a 30 year old. He loved them. I am now thinking I may need one also.

Overall, I'm very impressed with the AntWorks Tunnel Vision. One thing that could make it better, however, is if it was a little larger.

My rating of AntWorks Tunnel Vision
Posted 4/7/2008 by Stephanie D.

Rating:

What a wonderful learning experience! Within hours of receiving the ants in the mail, the ants were building tunnels and entertaining my children. I would also highly suggest ordering two AntWorks Tunnel Visions as well. It's really fun for the children to watch the ants crawl back and forth between the two containers. So much more entertaining than television!

Interesting and Educational

The AntWorks Tunnel was a gift for my 10 year old stepson but he didn't enjoy it as much as my daughters, aged 3 and 6. It is a little smaller than I thought it would be but since these can be connected to other AntWorks Tunnels, it is not a big deal. The product is durable, along with the ants, which both received some rough manhandling by all the very interested kids who love to 'experiment'. It was also easy to use and fun to observe. It sparked some very intense questioning and hours of amusement.

Pretty Cool. But What Happens Later?

Our daughter loves her ant farm. There is no feeding required (however, that can be part of the fun) because the gel is the food. The gel is see-through, so you can see inside the tunnels. It is fairly small. The ants eventually eat all the gel. You then must throw out the plastic case and purchase another entire "farm". Replacement gel is not sold. Also, the ants must be ordered separately. They take 2-4 weeks to arrive, though ours arrived more quickly and survived the cold. I'm not sure that this is really better than a traditional ant farm. Unless, you don't want to care for the ants. Still, we're enjoying it.

The ant farm is very cool. It would be nice if it included a minimum instruction saying that it's important to start a few tunnels for the ants.

Smaller Than Expected...But Really Cool

My wife ordered this for our oldest son, and was under the impression that there were more than just one unit included...I told her she should have read more. The unit is a little smaller than I expected, but I guess I should have read more... This ant farm is built solidly. The clear plastic walls are thick and the lid seals tight. Overall, this is the coolest ant farm I've seen so far.

Better Than The Traditional Dirt Version

My 10 year old daughter is a little on the girly side, so I was concerned she wouldn't like this. I was pleasantly surprised as she's fascinated by it. We only ordered 1 module due to the price, but she has asked for additional ones so she can connect them. My 3 year old son likes to sit and watch it too. Great gift for boys and girls of varying ages.

This product is awesome! It is so much fun having this. I'm actually an adult and have it in my office for my sales reps as a "we're all ants" kind of thing. It really is making everyone happy!

Toys for Big Boys

I purchased this ant farm for my husband, knowing that our two children would love seeing the ants tunneling, too. Before making my purchase, I had concerns how long the ants would be satisfied with one unit, with the amount of gel inside. Fat Brain Toys felt they couldn't give me the best answer, so they gave me the number for Fascinations and I was reassured that the ants would tunnel through about 70% of the gel, consuming only about 2%, and they would tunnel much slower if there were additional units attached. I am very pleased with both the product and Fat Brain Toys with this purchase!

Very Fun to Watch!

Our Antworks farm is sitting on the front desk. The ants are our office pets! This is our second Antworks farm. This time we opted to get the Tunnelvision version so that we could hook two together for twice as many ants and twice as much tunnel building action! The only downside to this product is that the ants don't always bring casualties to the surface. In our last farm they shoved them into the corners of the ant farm & they mummified causing large brown spots in the pretty blue gel. It would also be awesome if replacement gel was available!

We had a bit of difficulty putting the multiple sections together, but after about 30 minutes we had 2 sections attached in the middle. My son is loving watching the ant tunnel through the blue goo and watching them work with the magnifying glass.

Ants

This is really neat. I opted for catching my own ants instead of ordering. This was quite a task. Those are some quick buggers. I caught a few, then the next day they were gone! So learn from my investigation and put some tape over the holes in the top. I also learned that q-tips are great ways to collect ants. they stick to it like Velcro, then a light tap into the farm they go. i also suggest to add vegetable oil around the rim while catching them, they will try to escape and it seems to slow them down.

Read The Fine Print
Posted 8/21/2007 by Mary James

Rating:

I have ordered one of these ant farms before, the single one, and was excited to read of new type , the tunnel ant farm available. Read the fine print because you only get one ant farm, the tunneling comes if you purchase more than one farm which you can then connect to make a tunnel. The picture and description were very misleading. The product and ant farm though are really fun, entertaining, it is just different than what I thought I ordered.

Review for AntWorks Tunnel Vision

This is an a unique way to showcase ants. I liked the fact that the gel also served as food, so that you did not have to constantly remember to feed the ants. I want to buy another one to attach with the one I have. I was under the impression that this attached to the Fascinations Antworks.

I had used a gel ant tunnel before, but this one is larger and better. My ants have not arrived yet, but I am anxious for my kindergarten class to study and observe.

I love this ant farm. I'm a Private Tutor for kids and they all enjoy watching these amazing ants dig and create networks of tunnels. I bought two that connect and like watching them cross over in the tubing. It inspires us to learn about ants and their fascinating lives.

AntWorks Tunnel Vision Prevents Tunnel Vision
Posted 10/15/2006 by Walter Terry

Two years ago I was given the regular AntWorks product as a Christmas gift. And long after the more expensive gifts were lying unused and near-forgotten, my AntWorks habitat was still the focus of attention because it continued to provide unending hours of observing a part of nature that is hidden to most. Now there's AntWorks the "Tunnel Vision" model where you can link up multiple habitats. It ups the ante on stoking curiosity and scientific inquiry by seeing how the ants react to an entire new habitat to explore after they've tunneled out the original habitat. That's iteration #2. In iteration #3, I'll will be connecting up two inhabited habitats to observe their reactions. Also, I use the Antworks habitats as visual metaphors for work and life. The ants are ALWAYS working and producing results. And at the end of the day, that's pretty good visual reminder of how to play the game of life.
