Scientifically correct, beautiful drawings
Posted 3/4/2011 by Melissa

This poster arrived in a box, not wound too tightly, and it was laminated with a rigid plastic. First impression was a solid "fabulous." The drawings and colors of the butterflies on this poster are science book/museum quality.
The rigid lamination of the product was not expected, but it is welcome here, as the kids will not ruin it now when we point out all of the features of each butterfly or moth.

Nice, but mislabeled

The poster arrived promptly, and it's nicely laminated. As advertised, the title at the top of the poster is "Butterflies of the World." However, purchasers should be aware of the fact that many of the species portrayed here are actually moths, and moths are not butterflies.
Appropriately, the poster does display the Latin binomial species name. However, I would like it to also give at least one common name. I know these vary around the world, but the poster would be better if it included at least one of the common names.

My daughter love butterflies and this poster thrilled her. The lamination is excellent as it allows us to draw on the poster to add more color.
Would have given it a 5 but there was a big crease in the poster when we received it.

Beautiful but Inaccurate!
Posted 5/26/2010 by Stephanie S.

Rating:

The Butterflies of the World poster was very beautiful. The moths and butterflies pictured on it are a wide array of colors. However, the title is inaccurate as there are many many moths on the poster, which are definitely not the same as butterflies! Also, many of the Latin names written on the poster are incorrect. The poster is good for kids who just want to look at pretty pictures but not good for ameuter entomologists like myself!!!
(Response from the Manufacturer: Thank you for the feedback. Yes, there are a few moths on the poster as suggested within the descriptive copy. All of the scientific names are accurate. There are over 180,000 butterflies and moths. Many of them look very similar to one another. Positive identification can only be made from actual specimens. The specimens shown are original illustrations. The name cited on the poster is that provided by the artist. Over 30,000 Butterflies of the World posters have been sold to budding naturalists, professional entomologists, and those with an eye for artistry & beauty. We appreciate your honest feedback. Be assured, the information herein is scientifically sound and well researched.)

Beautiful high quality poster, has maps that show where the butterflies are from in the world, which we were not aware of from the screenshot on line. Really cool poster for our 12 year old budding naturalist.

I thought 11.99 was a little much for a poster. However, I was very pleased when I got it. It is laminated with heavy plastic and very nice. I now see that it is worth 11.99. Thank you. I can use it for years to come.
