We bought the Haba Basic Building Blocks - Extra Large Starter Set for our girls (ages 5 and 7). I am sorry that I didn't buy them earlier! They were an instant hit! They are beautifully shaped and make amazing creations. I love that we can create something together as a family, but also that the girls can play with them alone or with each other.

No batteries needed for hours of fun

My kids love the blocks. There weren't as many bigger pieces as I thought there would be but the quality is high. In order to keep all 3 kids happy I'll probably have to buy another set. We've decided to dramatically reduce the amount of "no brain needed" toys in the kids' playroom. As we've done this we've replaced them with thought provoking toys such as blocks, more books and creative play items. We've noticed that the kids (6 yr old and twin 3 yr olds) need less toys, less noise and less television to keep them happy and adventurous. I wish I could find quality blocks made locally and that they weren't so expensive.

Fun For All Ages

We gave this gorgeous set of blocks to our 4.5 and 18 month old daughters because our oldest was asking for "blocks just like at school." They have been a huge hit with both girls, and even my husband has spent hours creating castles, tunnels, barnyards, etc. The quality is superb - we like the slightly raw, natural feeling instead of varnished, polished blocks. And it's nice to have no worries about the quality or materials used by the maker.

Outstanding Play

These blocks are a wonderful value, without compromising on quality. They are plain with no paint or finish (which is great consider my son, at 16 months, uses pretty much everything as a teething toy). The fabric carry bag was a great surprise. At 102 blocks there's enough to keep both him and I busy with tons of healthy, creative fun. As I've found with many Haba items, great product!

I really like these blocks because they have some shapes that I've never seen in any sets before. However, when you spend this much on a set of blocks they really should come completely finished. That means smooth and with no need of additional sanding. These showed up with much need of sanding.

Excellent product! This is the second HABA set I have purchased. They are sturdy, smooth, and well-balanced. This set goes well with the 60 piece starter set. It has provided hours of entertainment for my two boys, ages 4 and 6. I feel that they will be using these blocks for years to come, and I will definitely get my money's worth.

This is a fine set of quality building blocks. The set combines well with the HABA marble run sets, the HABA specialized architectural sets, and the HABA logical sets. This is a well thought out system.

We are thrilled with the block set itself; it is substantial, sturdy and the blocks are consistently smooth. My only gripe, and the reason for 4 stars out of 5, is the misleading picture on the box, which shows many pieces not included in this set. Though I was aware of the discrepancy at the time of the transaction, I was not prepared for my 3 year old's broken-hearted reaction to the "missing" pieces when she excitedly tried to reproduce the castle pictured within moments of its arrival.

This set is exactly what it claims to be, an extra large starter set of basic building blocks. Many, many blocks. Lots of basic shapes and not too many special shapes. Well suited for learning basic building skills, which my 12-month old is of course not even thinking of (she's more in a destructive stage, destroying what daddy built, that is.) If she will build, these are the blocks that are best suited for it.

Wow! We so love the Haba blocks - for everyone in the family. Our three year old is captivated, we have great talk time as we build, and our two year old is close behind. I love the variety of shapes, the unique curves and design that allows for really interesting building projects. We like, too, that we can add Haba sets as the kids get older with marble slides and so on. I can see this being a favorite for many, many years to come!

Our son (9 months) loves the blocks. I actually had the same blocks when I was a baby. My parents back in Germany still have them. When we were back in Germany for Christmas, our son played for hours with these blocks. It is amazing for a 9 month old to have such a long attention span. Accordingly, we had to get him the same blocks back in the U.S.

Both our 2 year old son and our 4 year old daughter love them. These blocks are played with almost every day. I only wish there were more of the standard blocks and not so many "x"s. Other than that, it is a great set!

This is an excellent set of wooden blocks. The abundance of shapes included provide endless fun and exploration in 3-D. My 2 year old is still only capable of rudimentary play with the blocks (simple stacking, looking at different shapes, etc.), but these blocks will provide many more years of fun as she matures. I recommend them for any child.

I bought these building blocks for my 1 year old son's birthday, with the idea that my 3 year old daughter and 5 year old son will also play with them. They are all enjoying this toy together at their own level. The blocks are a nice quality, but I wish they were a little smoother. No splinters to complain about, but I would be more pleased if blocks were smoother.

The size of the blocks and variety of shapes was a wonderful addition to our existing blocks. However, the quality of the finish was poor. Within minutes of playing with the blocks both children and I received splinters!!! There were rough and jagged edges. I ended spending many hours carfuly sanding the blocks with fine sandpaper to receive the finished quality I expecting. All our other natural unvanished blocks have been beautifully smoothly finished but these were not. I would not order this product again nor would I recommend it to under 3 years old because of the lack of detail to the finish to prevent splinters.

High quality, interesting shapes, basically uniform. The Pattern Shapes by Haba also high quality and both products are precisely what I envisioned I would get.

These blocks are very high quality birch wood. Solid and with some weight. They also are a good size, unlike other seemingly comparable less expensive sets. I'd say each block is about one and half inches square by whatever length it is. So they are a great size for kids of all ages. Lots of variety too.

I bought this set for my 4 year old daughter. It is just right number of pieces and varieties. She likes it a lot. And I think she'll be able to play with it more often and more creatively in the next three to four years.

The blocks are high quality, smoothly sanded, lots of fantastic shapes, and even come with a storage bag! We're very pleased! The price isn't bad either!

A friend of mine recommended that I buy nice wooden blocks, and boy, do these fit that description! My 2 year old daughter loves them as do all her friends....would buy for any kid up to age 8 or so.
