wedgits advanced design cards
Posted 12/10/2010 by Jenny C

Rating:

I think the cards are pretty cool, and I like to try to make the structures. We just got our wedgits recently though, so it may be that I am not very good- but I find many of them are very challenging, and some I haven't been able to quite figure how to do (as an adult who won math awards during high school). I got the wedgits and the cards (for additional ideas) for my son who is 5. The loves the wedgits, but as with his other building toys- he seems to enjoy making his own creations more than trying to follow somebody else's ideas, especially if it is complicated and there aren't step by step instructions. I think it would be better if they put a few more how-to steps along the way as to how to make the structures instead of just a picture of the finished creation. so unfortunately- the cards may be a little too advanced for my 5 yo son, and as a mom to three children- I don't have enough time to sit and focus enough on one thing to complete many of the projects. I do think they have potential and I hope that as my kids get a bit older, they will use it more. they do love the wedgits

My son (5) loves having the cards to build different things, and my nephew (8) enjoyed them as well. In fact I had a great time building new things with my son, some of the cards are very challenging and getting the wedgits to balance can be a trick but overall a great product.

Another facet of Wedgits creations...

A wonderful addition to the Wedgits building sets. They can be used by one person, and are great to work on with others. The cards give you ideas you may not have come up with on your own, showcasing the building potential of the Wedgits, and sparking the imagination for your own future designs. The cards themselves are about the weight of a playing card, and are very well laid-out, with clear inventories (by part type) at the bottom of the card, and a nice color photo of the design. This is part of the allure though, working out the puzzle. The designs are 15 and 30 piece designs, and the minimum requirement to build ALL designs is: 1 Deluxe or 2 Junior Sets plus exPANsion Set 1 and Set 2. If you do not have all of these sets, you can build some of the designs, but not all. Great product!

WEDGiTS Design Cards

The design cards require pieces that we do not have in the Wedgits To Go set. I thought for the price that our set contained all of the pieces. We didn't buy the set through Fat Brain Toys. I was excited to get the cards, but disappointed to find out that we have to buy another set to use them.

Better Than Puzzles

We love Wedgits, and making them into team-building puzzles using the cards is really well suited to family time. (Rather than the also intriguing but less structured free-form imagination building.)

Wedgits Design Cards

I like the cards, though the pictures could be more helpful in ultimately creating the design. Also, not sure why they don't use colors in the description of the "recipe".

Wedgits are Terrific!

My son loves to play with Wedgits! He's only three years old, but they are so easy to use that he could just start right in building towers and other creations. I love them because he's improving his problem-solving and dexterity skills. The design cards teach him pattern recognition and serve as starting points for his imagination when he feels uninspired. What a great product!

Are These For My Three Year Old, Or For Me?!
Posted 8/1/2006 by Clarity

Setting: Homeschool

I bought the Advanced Design Cards to go with the Expansion Set for a birthday gift for my soon-to-be three year old daughter. She already has the Deluxe Set and Basic Design Cards. She already enjoys Wedgits, but she will continue to grow into them. Wedgits, as reputed, clearly develop her spatial orientation and perceptual skills, dexterity, and geometric conceptualization. I really ENJOY using Wedgits with her. To be frank, many of our activities aren't really that engaging for me after long periods of play. I love to show her how to build the structures on the Basic Design Cards, and I can't wait to amaze her with the structures represented in the Advanced Design Cards. I didn't wait to see her reaction before writing the review because she's just three. I hope these design ideas are a bit beyond the three year old level because I have a pretty good time with them!
