Simple but fun toy - I remember it from my own childhood!
Posted 9/17/2010 by A mom from Pennsylvania

Rating:

This is a simple toy. A child stands on the plastic cans, and then walks around by using the attached strings to pick up the can (and thus the foot). It's not quite stilts, but my kids are excited to see the world from a slightly taller perspective.
The cans were strong enough to support my enthusiastic 185-pound husband (who insisted on taking a turn).
It's easy for kids to take turns using this toy, and at least where I live I haven't seen many other kids with it, so it's pretty novel.

Stepper
Posted 5/22/2011 by Minnesota Mom

Rating:

My 9 year old daughter loves the steppers! For the first few days she used them from the minute she got up until she went to bed (well, not at school). They were a blast from the past for me and they are helping her with her balance! Now my 7 year old son wants his own pair and the neighbor kids might be asking for theirs, too after they took turns with them after school. They are inexpensive and are holding up well considering how much use they are getting.

I bought this for my 3-year-old son. He stood on them once, almost fell over, and hasn't touched them since. I'm hoping he will play with them outside in the Spring when he's a bit bigger.

Grandkids love 'Steppers'

It's a fun toy that a wide age range of children want to play with. The only thing I would improve on is to add a gripping type of ring to the bottom surface that touches the floor. They are slippery when using on a hard floor, but are safer on carpet.

Review of Stepper
Posted 11/28/2009 by Christine Claeson

Rating:

I purchased two sets of steppers for my 4 grandchildren to play with while they are at my house (ages 5-9). They have a great time with these and can use them both inside and outside the house. The kids were pretty wobbly on them at first until they figured out the coordination, but now they like to show off. Note: must wear sturdy shoes such as sneakers when walking on these steppers, flip flops not recommended and no bare feet.

These steppers were one gift among many, but one of the few that got played with right away and with all the kids attending. The plastic seems a bit flimsy, however, and I fear for the longevity of them. They reminded all the grandparents of the same toy they used to make with string and old coffee cans!

Review of Stepper

Rating:

Setting: Home

My 3 year old son likes the steppers. He is pretty unsteady on them and it frustrates him but it is a good opportunity for him to learn to work through frustration to accomplish something. My son doesn't play with them as much as I thought he would. I just asked him if he likes them and he says, "yes," so I asked why he doesn't use them much. He said they are "too old" for him. He thinks that he has to be older to use them, but I know that he will pull them out one day and just take off. That's how he is!

Fun toy to have around

My 5-year-old got these for her birthday and I was amazed at how quickly she picked it up! It took a few times of us coaching her and practicing with her but by the end of the day she had it. We bought these for our twin girls and they love them. They seem very sturdy so as they grow they should not break. They were a bit difficult to use with just socks on. The kids had an easier time barefoot. They are a great "active" indoor toy for the winter when we can't get outside as much. Not to mention....the price was great for a toy they will use a lot.

Got these for my 4 year old son for his birthday. He thinks they are fun and wanted to know if he was "exercising". His 9 year old brother and 7 year old sister also like them. I can't say it would be something he would play with nonstop during the day but I think they are good for coordination as they have to figure out how to pull up their hand and leg together.

Gave steppers for my nephews' birthday (4 year old twins, and new better to buy a 3rd set for the 5 year old brother!) Seem to be a big hit on day #1. The 4 year olds needed a little help figuring out the coordination, but they all seemed to get it and enjoy it. They were a little slippery on the hardwood floors, but I imagine they will scuff up a little outside and over time won't slip as much.

We have 5 1/2 boy and almost 2 year old girl. Our boy definitely enjoys walking around the house with the Steppers (giggling while doing so). Our 2 year old wants to use them but she hasn't figured them out yet. The Stepper is good, clean fun to help kids learn balance. Plus, they are not that expensive if the toy is not a big hit.

Happily stomping wherever they go
Posted 11/28/2011 by Lauren Kaiser

Rating:

Setting: Home

We ordered these for our kids (ages 4, 6.5, and 11) and they love them. Take them with them to the park, out back, up to their rooms. They were a hit. I remember having some ('romper stompers') when I was a kid and have fond memories of them, so it seemed like a classic toy. After I ordered them I saw something online that rated them one of the top 10 most dangerous toys, so that made me a little nervous, but I just keep an eye on them while they are playing. Can't be much worse than playing on the monkey bars at the playground. They might fall and hurt themselves, but what can you do? They are kids.

Keeps my son active
Posted 4/1/2011 by Kira Wild

Rating:

Setting: Home

Since his fourth birthday, my son talks to everyone about his "steppers". He is very excited about them and his new ability to walk taller. I won't let him use them off the carpet in the house, though, because they are just plastic on the bottom and could be slippery. Once they get worn in, though and have gotten scuffed up, I am sure he will be able to use them on the smooth floors. I got two pair so that he and a friend could stomp around outside (when it stops raining). This is one of those toys that can be used for years. And that is all I am buying anymore. Like the Bilibo.

Fun Simple Toy

I saw my daughter playing with a toy similar to this at preschool. Even though I have 2 daughters (ages 5 and 8) I decided to order just one stepper. I didn't think the older daughter would have much interest. I was wrong!! They love this simple, yet challenging toy. It teaches them balance and coordination while also stimulating creativity as they pretend to be different things. Our biggest challenge has been forcing them to take turns! My older daughter asked why I didn't order 2.

This is such a nice toy! My son has one and this year all his friends are getting this as a gift for their birthday or at a holiday. It is such a simple toy...no little parts, no flashiness, no trends...just simple, creative fun. I think the steppers are very solid and very safe. We have them hanging on a door knob so they are easy to get to. Once we practiced a few times my son is able to grab them and go...he loves the feeling of being taller! Great for balance, concentration and imagination. The price is right and the quality is very good. I would reccommend them to everyone!

When looking online at Fat Brain Toys for something that was different for my grandson, I saw the steppers and remembered making them when I was soooo much younger. These are of very nice quality - thick, dense plastic and nice cords and is very easy to use. My grandson loves them and plays with them often - which is saying something because he is not a "physical" child. He says they are like stilts. Thanks!

Great fun!

Rating:

I have four year old twin boys. One of them picked up on how to use the steppers pretty quickly. The other is still struggling a little (it's only been a couple of days). The product is sturdy and colorful -- exactly how it appears in the photo. My only complaint is the lack of instructions. Although it's clearly obvious how to use them, it wasn't clear the best way to tighten up the cords for smaller children. Also there were no guidelines for what might be the best length (should they line up with the hip? The waist?). Needless to say, we figured it out and it's lots of fun. A little too slippery to use on tile floors, though. We are sticking to the carpet and, when the weather gets better, the grass.

A step back in time
Posted 12/16/2010 by Patricia Douglas

Rating:

I cannot give you a play value at present because it is one of the Christmas gifts for my grandson. However, my daughters who are now mothers had a similar product when they were little. But your product is so much better made. The surface is flatter and larger than the ones from the past were. Also the part for the child to hold onto is much better. My granddaughters (from my other daughter) had some similar to this but not as well made. These are the best I have seen. He has been asking for these as one of his friends has them and course, that is what a grandmother is for. I will return to your site again. I ordered an extra pair because that way if a friend is over they can both use them at the same time.

My cousins had a pair of these when we were kids -- they were the first thing I'd grab when we went over! I hadn't seen these in years. My 4 yr old got this for Christmas a couple days ago. It isn't her favorite toy, but she seems to like it. My two older girls seem more interested in it. The ropes are too long for a 4 yr old, but are easily adjustable by pulling them down inside a bit and knotting them underneath.

I was skeptical when they arrived but was very surprised when the 5 and 6 years were really having a great time using them. When my 38 year old son took a turn on the them we werein hysterics as his big feet did not fit too well. Reminded us all of the stilts we used as kids. Nicely updated and safer for the little ones.

Rating:

At first glance, the plastic body of these toys appear flimsy, but they are remarkably sturdy and though we didn't test them, could probably hold an adult without a problem. The cords are soft yet strong and easy for a young child to keep a grip on.
My grandson is 5 and he LOVED them! He wasn't able to just jump on and start walking, but will master them quickly. This are great for improving balance and coordination. And they're fun!

This product is fabulous!!! I ordered 3 sets of the steppers in different colors for my step-grandchildren, and they all love it. It was the one thing they played with all day when they opened their Christmas presents from me over this past weekend. I remember having this toy years ago when I was close to their ages, and loved it as well. This toy is a true classic.

We bought two sets for both of my little boys and they have turned them into a necessary component of our never ending game of dinosaurs. Love 'em! Love the added benefit of improved balance. Great toy. Very simple. We have had a little slipping. I might add a no slip ring on the bottom for parental peace of mind; although then there might be tripping due to sticking.

Red Steppers for Sisters

The steppers are for my 6 and 4-year-old daughters. I didn't know if the 4-year-old would get much out of it right away, but she is using them like a champ! They both seemed to pick it up easily. I purchased the steppers for my granddaughter who is 3 1/2. She was excited to try them out, but I think she'll have to be a little older to use them successfully. They were quite slippy on the vinyl flooring but better on the carpet. I'm sure she'll try them out again the next time she visits my house. I'm pleased with the way they're made - much better than the ones I made for my kids from margarine tubs and string.

I bought this toy for my 2 yr old (knowing that the recommended age is much older). From the start, she was very enthusiastic to play w/it w/the support of my husband or myself. After just a day, she was trying to use them on her own. Quite quickly, she seemed to "get" some of the balancing and foot-positioning. She takes them from the shelf everyday - either to try them alone or to enlist one of us. I didn't expect her to be quite as taken with this toy as she was - esp at her age. We feel this was a great purchase.

The steppers are great. My 5 year old knew exactly what to do with them and was off and stepping. My 2 1/2 year old is even able to use them as well, although not as coordinated, but it has caught his interest as well. Very sturdy, simple toy!

I purchased two pairs of these steppers for my 3 1/2 and 5 1/2 year old daughters for Christmas. They were instant fun for my 5 year old. My 3 year old took pride in just standing on top of them Christmas morning, but by the afternoon she was cautiously shuffling around.

Bought these to have for grandchildren to play with. Mixed feedback from the grandkids. They like to have races on them, but when just one or two grandkids are here not too interested in playing with them.

The steppers are great!
Posted 8/31/2011 by Brandy Woodall

Rating:

I got these for my 7 year old to help develop her depth perception and balance. She currently does vision therapy and physical therapy and these are a fun way for her to practice these skills without really noticing that she's working. They bring back memories of using tin cans as "steppers" when I was little except that these have a larger base, more room to place your feet, and I don't have to worry about my little one cutting her hands on the metal. She gets excited when I bring these out to play on and thinks it funny when I walk around on them (140 lb adult). They are sometimes slippery on hard floors but I think that as she becomes a more seasoned "stepper" that this won't be a problem.

I had been looking for this product for a while now, and found it on the Fat Brain Toys website for an excellent price and quality. My son is a bit young for it yet, at 2 years 3 months, but we purchased it to give him for Christmas. My husband was in charge when it arrived, and so my son opened the package and started playing with his new gift quite early. He still loves it, even if he isn't using it quite independently yet.

Classic Fun!
Posted 7/24/2010 by CAREY

Rating:

A classic toy that was immediately put to good use. My kids love to stomp around the house or outside with these steppers. It is a great toy for encouraging balance and coordination. I may even purchase another set because my kids have been using them for obstacle courses. Proof that simpler is sometimes better.

I loved this toy when I was a child and purchased it for my daughter for her 7th birthday. Her two older brothers and all the other children at the party wanted to try out the stepper too! It's a great, basic toy that keeps kids active. I just bought a set for my niece's birthday too.

This is a gift for our granddaughter for Christmas and so she hasn't seen it or used it yet. We purchased it based on the reviews of others who have gotten it for their children and had positive reviews on your web site.
She is active and very well copordinated and we are hoping that it is a toy with longevity.
