great cash register

My 6 year old has been building a grocery store in our barn for 3 months complete w/a sign, shelving, products (taking things from the recycle bin) and making fruit out of paper, etc.. She also loves math and is going into first grade so having the pretend money and the cash register was the perfect addition to A.W.'s Market.

Great Toy - Quality Issue?

If it worked, my daughter would have loved it. Sadly, the calculator portion of the cash register was non-functional on arrival, which severely impacted the quality of play. (Note: Fat Brain Toys should always add up to nothing less than a good investment. We gladly shipped a replacement cash register for our customer.)

I was really looking forward to watching my children put their imagination to work with the calculator cash register. Unfortunately, the number pad stopped working. I returned it and ordered another calculator cash register only to have the same thing happen. I spoke to a representative from Learning Resources, the manufacturer. They were aware of the problem and are sending a new shipment.

I purchased this toy for my 4 year old daughter who loves to pretend play. She loves pretending to be a clerk, or a customer (by having me do a clerk) at a grocery store. She uses her other toys like grocery items, a shopping cart, and her little purse to play. This toy also lets her familiarize with a basic concept of economics (I mean, she learns that she needs money to buy something), and also with numbers (adding, and subtraction in later years). The only shortcoming I found for this toy is that she has to push the button quite hard to open the register automatically. But so far it won't discourage her from playing with this wonderful toy.

The cash register I bought is great. I bought it so my grandchildren can play store when they come to visit. It is easy for them to handle and it works well for their little hands.

By the day's end, the product would no longer display numbers. The kids loved the play money and being able to open and shut the register. I plan on returning it and possibly trying another one. (Note from Fat Brain Toys: The cash register's display is one of its great assets! We mailed a replacement register to this customer.)

The cash register looks attractive and is of a robust construction. It has been dropped by my grandson without any damage being noted. It is very well designed. All the buttons are easily accessible. The calculator does not require batteries and this is a plus mark. The whole package will keep it popular with a child throughout many years. My only quibble -which is quite minor -is that the button to release the drawer requires some pressure and the drawer slides out somewhat slowly. But maybe there is a good safety reason for this. Could I also suggest that when the drawer is released that a good loud distinctive bell sound is made?

This cash register is great for a wide age range. All the kids gravitate to it. In no time they were setting up a toy store - and learning. It was exactly as I had expected.

Good value, my 3 and 5 year old children play with it daily. Solar power works well.
