Seafarers is a fun expansion to Settlers of Catan and adds a few new dimensions. If you don't have Cities and Knights already I recommend purchasing that expansion first. The two expansions can be played together, but I usually find that when we have friends over to play everyone wants to play Cities and Knights and only rarely do we add Seafarers into the mix. Another thing to note is that there are two editions of all the Catan games. If you have the old edition of Settlers, incorporating the new edition of Seafarers is a bit of a pain since the tiles are different sizes and colors and some layouts depend on pieces that didn't exist in the first Settlers edition. If you have a choice of editions, I find the older one to be nicer.

great game, but one caveat...

Being a big fan of the Settlers of Catan game, my husband purchased this expansion pack. Either the description wasn't clear, or he misunderstood it. Because in order to use this expansion, you need The Settlers of Catan, The Seafarers of Catan, and The Settlers of Catan 5-6 player expansion. This is really just a caveat to anyone looking to buy this. The game itself is fun and always popular at his "game day" get-togethers.
