Band in a Box is so much fun. It's fun for all ages from toddlers to
adults who like to march right along with the kids. We have a great time with it. The instruments are good quality and it's very well priced. Since it comes in a "box" - getting the kids to put it away and keep it all together is no problem. My grandchildren cart it with them when they go on a play date. It's a fun gift to give - everyone is always very pleased with it.

My 15 month old daughter loves music and making her own music! The Band in a Box was a perfect toy for her! We attend a music class and she had so much fun with the instruments I thought she should have a set of her own. The instruments are great quality and so much fun.

The cymbals don't really make a cymbal sound. It's more like two pieces of metal hitting each other. The clacker fell apart within the first hour of my son playing with it. I called Melissa and Doug customer service and complained.

I came across the band in a box after I had already purchased a similar item for my 18 month old for Christmas. After opening the gift I was so disappointed with the quality of the first instruments that I ordered the Band in a Box to replace them--hoping they wouild be higher quality. They were! The maracas are filled a little too full so they don't produce a big sound but other than that they're great.

This was to replace some old plastic versions and I really love the solidity of these instead. I hope that they last a long, long time as it can be used for all ages.

We bought the band in the box for my daughter's first birthday knowing it would be a bit advanced for her, but she's loved it so far anyway. She is enjoying the finger cymbals and maracas, especially. And she has loved banging on the triangle with Daddy's help.

From the description I expected a covered wooden box to house the instruments. It was an uncovered crate which was okay. The quality of the instruments was very good. our 2 year-old granddaughter is attached to the triangle!

My 3 year old twins love all of the musical toys - I should have ordered this sooner, but am glad I did now. My only problem is that they wanted to bring all of the instruments to bed with them! I would recommend this product - very sturdy and realistic.

I was very pleased to receive this musical instrument set - although my 7 month old (it is rated for 3years+) definitely requires supervisin while playing with this set, he LOVES the instruments - each one requires different skills and understanding to create music with. I definitely would recommend this to anyone looking for a quality, varied music set.

Band in a box is the cutest gift ever. The instruments are good quality and a nice variety of different ones for kids to play with. My grandaughter will soon be two years old and these instruments are a fun toy for her to play with and enjoy....who knows, she might decided to play an instrument when she is older...

My 18 month old grandson loved it. Early the next morning, my daughter, (his mother) called to say that Gus had gone to sleep the night before holding one of the maracas, and they had just been woken up by the sound of it being shaken. He was delighted with it and spent quite a bit of time trying all the instruments.

My 14th month old loves this. She will pick up one instrument and bring it to you and pick up another instrument to play together or mimic the beats the adults devise. The adults have as much fun as she does. The toys seem well made, mostly wood or metal materials. They inspire movement and creativity.

My ten month old son loves the instruments in the set, especially the cymbals. The quality isn't the greatest, but I didn't expect it to be at such a low price. It is a good value for the price and your price was quite less than other shops, both online and in-store.

The tamborine and triangle are great! The finger cymbals are not very
musical sounding. The wood block can be tapped, but indentations for the scraping sound are not wide enough to facilitate that sound. The maracas do not hardly shake at all. It's as though there are too many beans inside packed in very tightly. What a disappointment - maracas are usually so much fun! (Note from Fat Brain Toys: More music to your ears. Melissa & Doug is shipping a replacement for the defective Band in a Box set.)

We have fallen in love with instruments at our house since my two year old began taking Kindermusik and Music Together classes. The triangle sounds great. The cymbals were a disappointment. They don't make a real sound, but a gentle thud. Overall, the instruments are really nice. I think every home with little ones should have a set.

This toy was such a great value. Of course you can't expect exceptional quality and the maracas are strangely quiet. My 11 month old daughter had similar instruments in a Music Together class and she loves these.

My son loves the instruments and the sounds - even the box itself. Sadly, though, the tambourine has a hole in it. All the other instruments seem quite durable. (Note from Fat Brain Toys: Percussion toys with sweet repercussions. Melissa & Doug provide replacements for all defective products.)

we thought the maracas were sub-par. even when shaken really hard the music is very faint. we've bought others from another company and they were much better. all teh other products were great and worked as we expected and would have liked.

When I saw this online I knew I had to get it!!! When I received it in the mail and opened it the kids I nanny were all over it! The instruments are well made and create wonderful sounds!! I would definitley suggest this item to anyone with kids. It's a great set of instruments for young kids who love music! We like to march to music and play, shake and bang!!

The band in a box set has become a fast favorite of my 13 month old sons. He loves banging the instruments around and making music. I love that the product seems to be of high quality and can stand up to his clanging and banging. This is a great value for the money as well.

I love the diversity of instruments. The quality is excellent. My son is only 10.5 months old, but I purchased this toy for him thinking that he can enjoy it now and also for the next few years to come. The only instrument that I am less impressed with is the Super Guiro. It only has 5-6 ridges. It would be cooler if it were more like the real latin percussion instrument.

Great idea at a nice price. We presented this gift to a family friend for his birthday - there were 4 children playing with it (with normal vigor). They all loved it. The only problem was that almost immediately the clacker had an issue, one of the strings that keeps the tension on the 2 flapping wood pieces broke. Otherwise, a great gift and toy.

My kids love the Band in a Box but I have noticed that the product is not of the highest quality. The tambourine keeps dropping the wood filler that they used to keep the metal post in place for the cymbals parts (or whatever they are called). I was lucky and found the wood filler (it is tiny) and was able to stick it back in, but I cannot image that this is going to be the end of this problem. I guess you could always fill the hole with something better but you should not have to. It should stay together by itself. Otherwise it is great and I really like that there are enough parts so my 3 boys do not fight over them.

I have had this now for a couple weeks. It has stood up to a beating by my 18 month old and 3 year old. It has a nice variety. Everything works great. The quality is good. My kids are having a blast playing the instruments. They love it!

This set is nicely constructed. Good selection of instruments. I appreciate that Melissa and Doug toys use non-toxic finishes. I much prefer wood toys to plastic, as well. The cymbals are smaller than I expected but otherwise everything works great. I hope it will last my children for years!

I purchased Band in a Box for my 15 month old. I was very impressed with the quality of the instruments. We have had the toy for over two months now and it looks just as good as the day we opened it. My daughter plays with it daily. It is a great introduction to music and rhythm. If your child enjoys music of any kind, this toy is sure to be a hit.

Best Band Set, If Imperfect

This high quality Band in a Box offers more instruments (and of higher quality) than most band collections. The Good: The tambourine is better sounding than any other band kit tambourines that I've tried; nice construction. The drum sound is surprisingly rich. Wooden clacker is sturdy and fairly loud. The kit also features a triangle and striker with adequate tone and firm construction. The cymbals are a little weak, but sliding them apart with glancing blows yields passable rings. The Not As Good:
The wooden percussion tube is monotoned, and should provide a bit more variety for its bulk. The maracas, while very large and easy for an adult to grip are a bit cumbersome for young hands and are too quiet. I found another pair that are half the size (perfect for toddlers) and twice as loud without being irritating. The open wooden box is nicely made with green fabric inside. My 3 year old daughter immediately emptied it of instruments, and converted it into grassy fenced "corral" for her plastic horsies.
Overall a nice band package. My daughter eventually enjoyed all of the musical instruments. I'd suggest losing the percussion tube and adding two small drumsticks for the tambourine, finding better/smaller maracas, and adding a simple wooden flute or kazoo. It would easily be worth twice the price while enhancing the musical fun.

This is an absolutely wonderful set! I never imagined that my one year old daughter would be so into it. She spends a lot of time with this toy. She prefers this set over many of her fancier electronic gadgets. I love that she is developing a love for music and having a great time along the way. The instruments are very well constructed. She tends to be a bit rough with them, and they are still in great condition.

The toddler music-lover in our group is a little too young to operate the clapper. (It must be shaken quickly and with sufficient force to make it clap.) He adores the triangle and cymbals. All pieces are a big hit with the school-aged kids. We expect our toddler to grow into using the clapper. A half-dozen budding musicians can play simultaneously--one more can be the director. Also a big hit for "Little Einsteins" fans. My husband and I like the use of real wood and metal. We're tired of plastic, particularly in musical instruments for which the plastic changes the sound and feel of the instrument. I read elsewhere that these toys can break. Yes, the maracas are somewhat delicate, but we've just taken that as an opportunity to teach our children to be gentle with musical instruments and that's working so far.

My 3 year old twin grandchildren love this toy. However my son and daughter-in- law want earplugs for their birthdays. Great fun, lots of noise. It's nice to be a grandparent. The grandkids go home. Ah, peace and quiet. It goes to show you, sometimes there is justice in the world.

The instruments are high quality and very attractive to the eye. The manufacturer is "Melissa and Doug" a brand we have trusted for years. My 2 year old granddaughter loves them and will appreciate them even more when she is older. The only thing that could be improved is it would have been nice to have a lid on the box so that the instruments would be contained.

Both my 3 year old and 1 year old love this product. Each item is made of high quality material and keeps them busy as they 'trade' the items between each other. We regularly have bands in our house and march around together with these items. I highly recommend it!

My one year old granddaughter attends a music class where she has been introduced to similar instruments. When she saw the Band in the Box she became very excited and wanted to play with all the instruments immediately. She is absolutely delighted with herself as she "makes her own music". She happily entertains herself by switching instruments and making various sounds. It seems this will be a favorite for some time to come!

Wonderful Toy For A Toddler!

My 2 1/2 year old loves this set. We put in a CD of her favorite music, or set our keyboard on demo mode, and "play along" by tapping or rattling out a rhythm with these percussion instruments. The only exception is the tambourine, which she has decided (for some reason) is a platform on which to stand whilst playing the other instruments. Fortunately it is sturdy enough that it hasn't broken (yet).

My Grandchildren love the Band in the Box, We have a great deal of fun with all the instruments. The only problem I see right now is they already lost the string for the triangle. In another set I have from a different Co. there is a small hole in the top of the triangle to hold the string, therefore not to be lost. I would buy another set.

The instruments immediately caught the attention of my almost 2 year old. Once shown how to use each of them, she played them and kept going back to them to play some more. Note: This was in the midst of opening other Christmas presents - which makes that even more meaningful. The quality appears to be very good.

My nephew loved it. The instruments are very high quality and just the right size for a kid. He loves to dance and play the instruments, and they come in a handy box.

Great product. We have always loved all of the Melissa and Doug products. Well made and cute. I wish it wasn't quite so loud, but it is the natue of the toy!

The product was great in lots of ways. The band items are fun and easy for children to use and enjoy. The products lack a little bit in sound. Perhaps they were made to produce a more muted sound? The maracas sound not quite filled as they should and the cymbal is muted. Otherwise, we enjoy them immensely.

I bought this for my niece's 2nd birthday. She loves playing with it! So does her 6 year old brother. There are enough pieces that they can share and play at the same time.

I am very pleased with the Band in a Box. I purchased it to play marching band with my grandchildren. They love it. Everything is well constructed and the wooden box holding the instruments is very convenient.

I was a little dissapointed in the box. I thought maybe the box would have a lid on it so that the instruments would be contained which would prevent them from falling out of the box when you store it away. The instruments themselves are fine, although there is nothing that original or creative about them.

It is a good set for young children to use for playtime. My children love the instruments. Their ages range from 2 1/2 to 6 1/2 years old.

My 15 month old loves these toys. He can't get enough of them. The only thing that I would recommend to the manufacturer would be to include a drum. But, the value of this toy is amazing!

My kids both love music and this was a big hit. So many different types of instruments to play that it keeps them busy for a long time...and has stopped them from banging on my pots and pans!

These are great sounding musical toys. We like that they are made out of metal and wood. They are much more authentic than plastic versions. We actually bought 3 boxes and separated them and gave them away as party favors at our son's 3 year birthday party. This was a much better gift than a bag full of candy and throw-away plastic trinkets.

During my Music Together classes for babies and pre-schoolers, we have a "play along" song. These brightly colored instruments are kept in a box and dumped out for the children to select and use. Some are played as instruments, some are used more "creatively" and the very youngest of my musicians just taste them (then these get wiped with a disinfectant cloth). When the song is over, the children bring the instruments and put them back in the box, some more gently than others. In addition to being very attractive and perfect for instrument play, they are durable. The children love them and so do I.

Band in a box was a great purchase for us. With six different instruments, there was no problems with our two daughters sharing. They love to make music and this purchase was great for them. The instruments are varied and sturdy. We couldn't be happier!

I bought the Band in a Box for my two year old daughter. Even though the appropriate age is 3+ yrs, she enjoys playing with the fun musical instruments, especially with cymbals and a triangle. I highly recommend this set!

When my little nephew opened "his" box the whole event was perfect! I had ordered this Band in a Box for his second birthday. He lives in Florida, and I live in Seattle. Shipping was perfect - the box arrived at 4 p.m. on his birthday and I got to watch via teleconference on the internet! This little boy shook the rattles played the tambourine, and all in all, demonstrated the full ability to use these percussive instruments to fulfill my two goals: (1) his immense pleasure and (2) pushing my poor sister's sanity on out the door! Thanks for a wonderful birthday experience, Fat Brain Toys!

Great fun! Good quality. Only issue I had was that every item was attached into the "box" with multiple twisties and it took forever to untwist them all.

We just gave this toy to our son for his first birthday, and it's wonderful! The instruments are simple, but the variety is perfect. It's a perfect toy to share, since there are enough instruments for a group....or, it's easy to play solo too.

First I appreciate the eco friendly paints that are safe for my child. I appreciate that the colors are brilliant and therfore encourage him to engage with play. The quality of the product is sturdy and the music generated is authentic ~ my child plays with these musical instruments for long stretches of time. I highly recommend this wonderful product for children.

I am very impressed with the quality of these instruments. I know the Melissa and Doug brand and these instruments are just as good as everything else I have purchased. I bought this as a gift for my 4 year old son. He really likes all the instruments. I was surprised at how quiet the instruments are. The toys obviously still make noise but its not that bad. My only complaint is that I wish the box had a lid, maybe something that hinged. Overall I am very happy with the purchase and my son seems to be as well.
