My 20-month old son seems to enjoy this toy quite a bit. He's never been a big lover of puzzles, but this 2-piece cube set seems to have caught his attention. He's now had it for a couple of weeks, and is really starting to figure out how the pieces fit together. Of course he loves the noises and finds it fun to mimic the various sounds. My only complaint (and it doesn't seem to bother my son one bit) is the fact that the toy emits sounds randomly, and not just when the correct pieces are positioned in the tray. Overall it's a great toy, and I would recommend it, particularly for kids who haven't yet developed the patience for traditional puzzles.

Great Educational Product

My nephew loved this toy. He squeals in delight when he places the blocks correctly and hears the sounds. I'm also very pleased with the quality of the product, but nothing beats the smiles this toy brings.

This product is great for learning animal sounds and working on matching. Maybe a little too adavnced for my 19-month-boy, as he thinks blocks are made for stacking, but he likes the sounds.

The child was very impressed with the sounds and noises that the blocks made. He was engaged in making the noises happen again and again. It really made him focus on how to get the blocks into the base in the right order.

The Farm sound Blocks were given as a birthday gift to a 2-yr old.
She opened them and played with them immediately saying "mooo" for every animal but cows are her favorite. Other, slightly older girls who were present were also interested in playing with the blocks. Her mother told me that she is still playing with them days later. This is a perfect toy for 2+ yrs; no younger.

Our daughter, who isn't quite two, doesn't quite grasp what to do with this toy yet. However, I think once she is a little older she will enjoy it. It is a nice toy, good quality and intellectually stimulating. I agree with what other parents have said in that it is a little quiet. However, in my mind this is a good thing. How loud does it have to be for a child playing with it? For me, I'm glad it's not loud as I find loud toys grating.

I bought these toys for my daughter on her second birthday. While the animal sounds aren't as realistic as they might be, she enjoys the toy overall. The blocks are a good size for small hands to easily manipulate, and matching the pictures on the blocks is easier than trying to snap puzzle pieces together. Although the sound quality isn't great, it's not too loud (nice for parents) and fun for little ones regardless.

My twin 2 year old grandchildren both are enjoying the Farm Block Sounds. I especially like the fact that the correct sound cannot be heard until both blocks are positioned correctly, front to back. Their sizes are also a plus as they are easily handled.
My only word of advice would be to make the animal sounds louder.

I got this for my Grandson whom is two. He was so interested in the other toy I bought him he didn't really like or pay attention to it. So??????? I think it's a great toy but of course it wasn't mine.

Great for teaching about farm animals

I gave this to my 2 year old that is in love with farm animals at this point. He loves it!!! It's great for learning eye/hand coordination as well as fine motor skills and the reward is hearning the animal's sound. He has a failry easy time making the matches and tries to repeat the sounds after he hears them. A great learning tool!

This is a fine toy. The only complaint I have is that it is too quiet. You can barely hear the sound. If I hold it up or put it on a cookie cooling rack to keep the bottom up in the air then you can hear it better. Since the speaker is on the bottom and it sits on its bottom you can't hear it well.

Cute for the price

My daughter is too young for this toy at 1 1/2, but for the price, I think in a few months it will be worth the money spent. Once they figure it out I'm guessing that they won;t play with it much, but for under $10 it teaches a good lesson and seems very well made. The blocks are tough enough to withstand use in other block-play activities. But hey, it's a puzzle, by nature they are made to be one shot deals. I mean how many erase their crosswords and do them again ?

I was expecting the noise to come directly from the blocks. You have to put the blocks in the wood container to hear the noise the animals make. When the container is on the ground it is hard to hear the sounds. Also some of the animal noises do not sound like the actual animals.

This is great for a 1 year old, even though the ages are for 2 and up. My son loves to listen to the different animal noises, but has a hard time making matches on his own! Definitely a toy that can grow with him

I purchased this for my son becasue it looked like a wonderful cause and effect toy. The blocks are still a bit heavy for him to manipulate and he's still a bit young for them, however it is wonderful to see his interest change and develop over time with the blocks. This is a wonderful toy and I'm glad we got it before he was truly ready to use it because wathcing him develop and look at it differently over time is beautiful. I highly recommend this toy as well as the Vehicle sounds set.

My son loves his Farm Sound Blocks! He is almost two, and is really good with shapes (so he figures out shape sorters pretty quickly). At first, I thought that this toy might not be interesting enough for him (that he'd figure it out too quickly)...but it challenges him in a different way (i.e.,matching pictures and placing the head in front of the tail). It has definitely kept his attention. I'm sure the "reward" of having a farm animal sound when he's done the blocks correctly helps maintain his interest.
My husband and I are musicians, so the volume of the farm animal sounds is fine for us (i.e., noisy toys don't bother us at all). I think the volume of the sound might be a little on the louder side, but seeing that the blocks have to be in place for it to make sounds, I'm not too worried about hearing damage. (It would be hard for a toddler to hold it up to his/her ears without the blocks falling out.)
Our experience with Melissa and Doug products has been very positive. It's so nice to have toys made out of wood! This toy, like all Melissa and Doug products, is also very high quality.

We all loved this puzzle. It is unique and well made. Our 18 month old grandson will have to grow into it, because it's a little too difficult for him to do right now. His sisters, 7 1/2 and 3, and brother, 5 1/2, really had fun with it, as well as the adults.

I liked the toy, my 2 year old grandaughter liked the toy. That being said, it did not always work correctly and unless you changed the block configuration, it will continue to "moo", "baa", "neigh", etc. The animal sounds aren't very realistic. The volumn was good, audible but not too loud. The concept of matching the blocks is very good and my grandaughter really likes it when I help her. Overall, it's a good educational toy. I think I would have liked it better had it been made in the USA.

When my Granddaughter first saw this toy she said, -I'm scared. I think it was too realistic with the sounds. Instead of neigh for the horse, it's more like the real sound. Instead of baaa for the sheep it's the same... the real sound. It ended up being a favorite toy even though it took some getting used to.

Although we love this product, there are couple of improvements taht would have made our experience much better.
1.) the batter case did screw did not open easily. Once open, it would not screw back in. Perhaps a longer screw would help?
2.) The animal sounds need a bit of improvement to sound more realistic. The volume was also too low. Unless the room is completely silent (rare with children), the sounds are difficult to hear.

The product is sturdy and attractive. The animals are painted and not cheap decals. The entire toy is wooden instead of plastic. The animal sounds are not to loud or irritating.

I bought this for my two-year-old's birthday. My four-year-old twins showed her how to play with it, and she then spent twenty minutes making all the animal sounds, one after another. She was so proud of herself! I was afraid it was too easy a toy for her, though and she'd be bored with it after that. Not so. The sounds bring all my kids back to the puzzle blocks again and again. And as an added bonus, my little girl is finally working on other puzzle toys we've had. They might not make noises, but she is inspired now.

I bought this for a girl that is about to turn 2 because the family just had a new baby. She seemed to really like it, but wasn't quite old enough to do it herself. Not only could she not match up the animals, she really couldn't fit the blocks in by herself. If you would hold the blocks and turn them, she would tell you whether or not they matched. I think she just needs to be a little older. The sales lady told me it would be perfect for a 2 year old. I do not have kids, so I'm not sure if this toy needs to be for an older child, or just wasn't right for this child. I thought it was a great gift to keep her busy while the focus was on the new baby.

My son, who is almost 1, really likes it when I show him how to match the blocks. The matching is a little complex- but maybe that is a good thing. I think when he gets older, he will probably play with it unassisted.

This was bought for my 2 year old grand daughter. She loves it. She takes it from room to room with her and plays with the blocks as blocks and then places them in the holder. Her 6 year old brother enjoyed showing her how to put the blocks togetter to make the animal sounds.

The child likes to listen to the different sounds the animals make, so she works at it to get it right. I use it to teach her the names of the animals in German, and sentences like, "what does the cow say?" in German.

Both of my grand daughters a very bright and very different from one another. This toy has great problem solving components that I am certain they will both love. They are 11 days apart, with B day on the 3rd and 14th so they are both just a year. I can't wait to see the look on their faces when they figure out the puzzle. You should have a "share your pix" area…maybe that would be creepy…I don't know. Tell me what you think.

This toy has nice sound, nice pictures and feels like it is a quality product. My daughter is a little young to play with this by herself but she loves to play with it with Mommy and Daddy. It is nice to have the sounds of the animals and she is even trying to make some of the sounds herself now. These blocks were well received by both the child and all children and parents present. The birthday child would open other gifts and eventually go back to these blocks, take them out and wonder just where the noise was coming from - so cute! Also we all were impressed with the safe quality of the toy. One of the adults present wanted to know where I got the toy.
Very impressive and I will continue to buy from Fat Brain Toys.

This is the neatest puzzle for little ones! My daughter just turned 2 - we gave the blockes to her for her birthday. She has needed help turning the block the right way to match it up, but she is delighted each time the puzzle 'responds' with a sound. I expect it won't be long till she can do it herself. Meanwhile her siblings have enjoyed it also.

I really like this toy. It was a gift for my nephew and we tried it out when he opened it Christmas Day. It was easy for my nephew to use and he really enjoyed listening to the sounds when he matched the pictures.

I really like this product because it's unlike other toys I've seen. I think that it will be harder to keep my son interested in it for long because of the limited play options - only 6 animals to line up. The sounds are the natural reward which is a bonus!

this is a christmas gift, but my 6 yr old grandaughter likes it. it is for a grand that will be 20 months at christmas time. i know he likes puzzles because last month he was playing with one at our family day. that is what made me buy this puzzle.

My son is not yet 2, so I think he will play with it more as he gets a little older. My nephew, who is 4, loved the toy. It's well made and has fun animal sounds.
