Clearly labelled to show the correct steps in handwriting Capital and Lower Case ABCs. Numbers and Cursive Writing are included as well as . I purchased this for my almost 5 year old grandson and my 3 year old granddaughter. They were both very excited with the whole idea of the directional help in the arrows that were numbered to show them the correct way to create each letter-i.e. to write a capital A they follow the arrow down for the left side of the letter first, because it is marked with a number 1. It made it seem more special than just tracing the letters. They also liked the idea of wiping them and then doing them over again. The 5 year old had never really learned that there was a correct way to form each letter and this mat was a tremendous learning tool. They liked having the numbers from 1 to 10 across the bottom of the mat, also. But the five year old was gleeful when he discovered the cursive writing on the back side of the placemat. And now he's also learning cursive writing as well. Having the adjustable holders for the crayon-like markers was a bonus, adding more interest to the product.

My 8 year old daughter should be learning cursive this year, but so far, I don't think they have touched the subject. She has kind of taught herself (like, how to sign her name), but this mat has been handy for her to practice some of the other letters. As a bonus, the printed letters on the reverse sign are good for my 4 year old son to practice! I should have picked up two, but they don't usually try to use it at the same time.

My grandkids started to use them as soon as I gave them to them and kept re-using them 4 time in the first day. I could see improvement right after the 3ed use. Great items.
