Missing lid
Posted 3/23/2010 by Ernest Gath

Rating:

It comes with a wood box for storing pieces. Since we acquired our last Melissa and Doug product, they have decided to save a few pennies and not include a lid. As a result, if you have this toy in the car, it is likely to spill, scattering pieces all over the place.

I like the Magnetic Pretend Play Joey. The storage box is too hard to have around for little ones. If they should fall down on the box the could get hurt. Sharp edges. It should be made of a softer material

My son is 4 and got this for Christmas. For a toy so simple, it sure has held his attention! He's played with it daily. He enjoys putting the outfits together and is very good at coordinating the parts. His favorite outfit is the policeman one. I love how sturdy the pieces are and the magnetic pull has just enough strength to attach the parts, but not so strong that the child can't remove them easily. This is no cheap toy, it's well made to last through multiple children. I would be delighted if Melissa & Doug came out with additional outfits for this toy. I cannot think of another company that has a boy-themed dress up doll such as this, so thank you Melissa & Doug for this product.

The magnetic boy is great. I use it in my preschool classroom. Quality is good, and there is a wide range of outfits a child can make.
Only criticism: I should come in different ethnic or race choices, too.

We gave this gift to our friends son who turned 4 - not only did he love it but his 2 year old brother loved it as well. We've been told that they have been playing with it daily. We bought it the following week for another friends 3 year old, who also loved it and hasn't stopped playing with it - this is highly recommended!

I'm a speech pathologist working with children 3-5 years of age and I have been looking for a boy dress-up doll for a long time. I finally found one! I only wish he had a "normal" wardrobe like the girl doll but I am thrilled to have found this. The kids love him - the boys and girls alike.

A good set for a youngster, but it could have been made even better. You cannot mix/match the outfit pieces together easily. Eg, you cannot put a fireman's jacket with the pirate bottoms for a funny outfit. This really limits the options of dressing. My 2 year old got bored with it after a few minutes. He put on the different outfits and then shrugged as if to say, "hmm that's all it does."

love the toy - so does the child! only reason i rated it a four instead of a five is it need some kind of a lid to keep it together! i noticed i'm not the only person that feels this way. i purchased another one of these a few years ago and it had a slide-on acrylic lid. It is still 'together' because of this. thanks

We purchased this for our oldest son (2.5 years) as a gift from his newborn brother. Our oldest son is really into cars and trains and I thought we would try to find something else for him to play with. He has a few puzzles that he likes to complete so I thought this might be a fun new kind of toy for him. He played with this a little bit when we gave it to him, but now just sits on the shelf.

My boys really like this toy. My only wish is that it came with a cover. We could take it on road trips or to Grandma's eaiser.

I purchased the materials for my daughter's new English school in Toyohashi, Japan. We are both thrilled with the quality of the Tangoes Jr and the magnetic dolls. The students will love playing with them as they build their English vocabulary!

I was not sure how a 4yr old boy might take to this. He is really enjoying it. We even took it with in the car to drive just a few miles. We are glad we chose this over an electronic game.

I bought this for my four year old son who loves playing alongside his friends and cousins who play with the similar but "girlie" set of Abby and Emma. He really enjoys the superhero costume of Joey and the occupation wardrobes and the ability to role play with his friends magnetic dolls.

Very durable, well constructed. Outfits are what kids this age would love to play with and imagine. Will be great for my preschoolers with disabilities.

I bought this for my 3 year old son who loves playing with big sister's dress up dolls (also from Melissa and Doug). He was very excited to get his own "boy doll" and does enjoy playing with it (along with the girl dolls!). Another well-made toy from M&D!

With a boy who has an older sister and has used her ballerina girl and other girl magnetic dress-up toys, I was happy to find one that suits him. It comes with many different dress-up themes. He loves it!

I love the quality of this product, since it is made of wood and comes in a durable box. I do wish it had a clear sliding or hinged lid on it though. I had to make a plexiglass sliding lid myself, since I bought this for our church "quiet activity" bags, and didn't want the pieces to get lost. I do wish the set had some ordinary clothes in it, and not just occupational clothing.
Overall, I am very pleased with this product and thought the price was reasonable.

I bought this for my 3 yr old son for Christmas (haven't given it to him yet). We have a 4 yr old girl, so she is always dressing dolls up, and he is too, so this is a nice addition to the dress up toys for him. It is a Melissa and Doug toy, so it is great quality and I'm sure he will love it.

My three-year-old has had this toy for just two days and has already spent a lot of time with it. The pieces are just the right size and variety to keep his interest. The stand is a nice feature because he likes to show off what he does.

My students love these magnetic dolls. I have several of the girl ones and my boys loved playing with them. I have been searching high and low for some boy dolls. Yeah! My school year is ending and the students have not had a chance to play with them. But from the response of previous play, I know they will be a big hit with my 3 and 4 year olds.
