My grandchildren (ages 3 and 1) love the Pound and Roll Tower. A similar version of it is at our local Children's Museum. Now they have their own tower!

My 1 year old likes the colorful balls from this toy, and did learn how to smack them with the mallet quickly, but he doesn't do it repeatedly. This toy was only interesting to him for a brief while. now he mainly just plays with the four balls along with his blocks and other toys.

 |
The -hit the balls and move on- play action is not at all unusual for 1 year olds. However, if your child never returns to play with a Fat Brain Toy let us know. I purchased this toy as a gift for a very bright child for his 2nd birthday. I wasn't sure if it was going to be too simple for him, but he LOVES to hammer things, so I gave it a try. He loves the toy! He loves hammering the balls down into the tower or just picking them up and rolling them down the tower.

We recently purchased this toy for a friend's son's 1st birthday. The toy was a hit! He got a ton of toys that day but this one was played with the most by everybody there. The 1-3 year olds loved to pound on the balls with the hammer and even some adults got in on the action. This toy is well-built, simple, and classic. Great product!

Too Hard for Toddlers

My one year old son was initially interested and understood that you are supposed to hit the balls so they can get rolling. Sadly you need a lot of pressure to get the balls through the holes , even an adult needs two or three good pounds. Now my son just sticks random objects through the sides to see if they will roll down... The quality of material is very good, (that thing will outlive a nuclear war), colours a bit on the basic side.

My son loves hitting things, pounding with his fists, and using any toy involving a "hammer". He just turned one and this toy is perfect for him. It's not too noisy, and appears to be very well made.
My only complaint is that the balls roll everywhere around the room and I am constantly rounding them up. This is probably because we don't have carpet, though, so not truly the fault of the toy.

Good quality product. Bough for a nine month old, who loves the colorful balls and taking then off and putting then on the tower. Has not progressed yet to playing with it in a different way. The two older kids also got interested and played with. The only concern is the weight and hardness of the balls and the hammer. We put the hammer away for now, so that she doe not whack herself in the head.

This is a great toy for all ages! We got this toy for our one year old sons birthday and he absolutely loves to watch the balls go down the planks or even simply just hit the balls together to make his own noises! We had kids ranging from one year to 5 years old and every child wanted to play with this toy above all the others! The only downside is that it dents and looks banged up pretty quickly, but I think that comes with any toy that comes with a hammer!

Have seen this toy w/ 3 different 1.5 year olds now. It's a huge hit. Parents underestimate the power of such a simple toy and the incrediblee satisfaction of pounding. B/c this one is wood, the noise the balls make is pleasant, not grating.

Good quality wooden toy, pleasant surface with no sharp angles
Drawbacks: the wood hammer that one kid could swing at the other, the balls can be thrown at other children too and they are wood. I had to use what I would consider excessive force to hammer the balls down.

I bought this for my son for his first birthday and it has been a hit. The little hammer goes with him all around the house. It is really sturdy so even though he plays with it a lot the balls and tower don't have any dents or paint chips. The one thing I didn't like is that it has a huge sticker on the bottom from the company with instructions ect. Overall very cute though.

the Pound and Roll Tower was a gift for our almost 3 year old nephew with 2 big brothers. All 3 boys kept going back to this toy between opening presents on Christmas. The boys play rough. I had concerns about durability before I purchased, but found the reviews to be true. This toy is as tough as the boys. The hammer did make small marks in the top when they missed the balls.

This was a present for my 18month old nephew for Christmas. He loved it instantly and the best part you just open the box and they can start playing. Nothing to put together. He would not stop playing with it.
Only thing that was bad about it is its not something you want to let them bang on with another kid playing to. My daughter was caught by a couple mallet swings since she couldn't stay away from it either, she is 2. But they can use their hands to push the balls through.

This toy is well-built and lots of fun for my 15-month-old nephew. He learned to swing the hammer and pound the balls through in a matter of minutes. It takes a number of hits to get the ball to go through. It's definitely a fun toy and it's also a great way for him to get out his frustrations when he needs to.

I got this for my 15 month daughter and my older one (4 years) is enjoying it too! The littlest has only pounded them through on her own a few times - it takes her a while - and usually needs help but enjoys the tapping and pounding. The oldest has plenty of strength and loves to see if she can get the balls through with one or two pounds of the hammer.

We got this for my 16 month old son, and he immediately began playing with it. He was able to put the balls in their holes, pound them down with the hammer, watch them roll to the bottom, collect them all, then do it again and again.
He was also able to call out the colors of each ball. He played with this toy for at least 20 minutes before we could pull him away to continue opening presents!
It was definitely a hit, and is yet another Melissa and Doug product we loved.

I ordered the pound and roll for my neice who is 18 months old. I quite liked the idea of the traditional, type toy, whci is quite unique. My neice absolutely loves it!! She enjoys it more that any other toy she has and more than the the more modern type toy. she must however be supervised during its use, and she can cause damage with it when not supervised. It is made out of wood. I am extremely happy with it, and would order again. It is exactly what I had wanted for her, and she squeals in delight when she uses it!

BOY was this a HIT

My 23-month-old son got this for Christmas today. After some quick demonstrations, he caught on to the pounding action. The path of the ball through the tower is influenced by how hard the last hit is, so it was fun to see where it would go. My son got quite a thrill out of successful hits! We are using it to talk about colors, too. I'm not sure if my daughters would have been as drawn to the hammer when they were toddlers, but for my boy it's perfect. The design looks excellent--each hole is ringed with durable plastic so that repeated use will not enlarge the aperture. So far my son has not used the hammer for other explorations, luckily!

I bought the Pound and Roll Tower for my 17 month old son. It took him a little while to figure out how to pound on the balls himself. At first, he just liked putting the balls in the holes and having us pound them. Once he figured out that he could do it too, he really whacked away at it. My only concern is that within a few hours the wood on the top already had many dents from the hammer. The balls also dented. After a few weeks, the balls have flecks of paint missing from them. Thankfully it has not seemed to splinter or have any pieces break off. I also notice that the head of the hammer is coming a little loose too. That being said, he still plays with it from time to time. He really gets into hitting it. We have to watch our fingers if we put the balls back on. We also use the balls separately. Maybe if your child didn't hit it as hard, the denting would not be a factor.

I purchased this for my one year old son's first birthday. He loves th bright colors, the sound of the balls (and whatever else he can fit in it) rolling down the tower, and playing the the balls themselves. He hasn't quite figured out how to pound the balls through, but he still loves playing with it and I'm sure he'll learn soon enough.
