Good Book

This was a good book for my daughter. She initially didn't want to touch it, but after sitting down with her for the first page she wanted to keep going! The biggest drawback is that they didn't vary the style of the addition problems at all. They are all in 5 + ___ = 8 format, instead of 5 + 3 = ___ on some pages. This more difficult formatting was challenging to her and a variety would have been nice. The maps are fun though, and she had no trouble with them.

When I asked my first grade son to describe Addition Adventures for this review, his response was "awesome". He loves mysteries, secret codes and pretending to be a detective. The worksheets to him are like a secret code with a map to solve a mystery. We tried a sample sheet from the workbook that we found on the internet and it was perfect for him. I had to explain on the first sheet how to do move on the map with the answers, but then he was off and running. All the problems are in the same form, each with the answer, but a number missing from the addition problem. Example: 6+__=10 . The answer and the direction behind the problem tell the child where to move to on the map. There are 30 worksheets of Addition Adventures. Our copy also had 5 sample worksheets from Subtraction Secrets, which my son also loves. I had to ration how many he could do each day, but I think the anticipation made it more fun.

I purchased this to provide a fun review of addition facts for my 9 yr old daughter. She has enjoyed it and her 6 yr old brother has attempted the activities too, with remarkable success! A wonderful fun learning tool!

Addition Adventures is for gift, so it will be awhile before have feedback on its use and acceptance. It is for a niece who is very curious, with involved parents, so I expect it will be well-received and used.

Math Boredom Buster
Posted 7/22/2010 by Natalie

Rating:

I have had the hardest time finding a math activity that would improve my 7-year-old's daughter addition speed and consistancy and keep her attention. She finds it a boring subject and typically I struggle getting her to focus. This activity book breaks the boredom as it incorporates some mystery solving for her. She loves it and has set down to do the puzzles a lot more frequently than any other regular activity book.

Addition Adventures "Rocks!"

"This Rocks!"...would be the description of my 6 year old son on the Addition Adventures book. He took the book and didn't want to stop completing all the puzzles. He had a ball!

I purchased this book after printing a free sheet from the book that my kids really enjoyed doing. It's a great way to practice math skills and, with Addition Adventures, also learn about maps and directions. My kids worked together with the older one completing the math problems and my younger one tracing the path with the answers. An entertaining way to brush up on math skills.

Addition Adventures

My granddaughter is having difficulty with math. If she just had to fill in the missing numbers on each page she would have lost interest after finishing the first few pages. The fact that she had to complete the maze and find the answer to the puzzle kept her motivated. This workbook is a very helpful aid to review addition and subtraction, especially for children who are having difficulty with math.

This is a fun way to do addition. My daughter loves it. After you do the addition on each page, you use the answers to solve a puzzle. A fun way for kids to reinforce their skills

Our 5 year old daughter loves doing math anyway, but this provides a sense of accomplishment as the patterns emerge. Completing the pattern also seems to break the monotony of doing problem after problem.

These addition games are suitable for children who have completed 1st grade math. They are interesting but fairly long and involved. They may test the attention span of children that age.
