My 10 year old son has received a set of these blocks for Christmas and/or his birthday for the last several years. They are wonderfully made and have a real "old school" quality feel. They have inspired him to endless hours of inspired, imaginative play and helped foster an interest in architecture.
In the interests of a balanced review, it is a lot more time consuming (and boring from a 10 year old perspective) to put the blocks back in their box. Also, particularly as the sets advance, the directions are not particuarly child friendly - adult involvement to interpret the diagrams is necessary, although as such it tends to encourage more imagination-based building from the child if the parent isn't available.

We have bought a set of Anchor Blocks for our 10 year old son each Christmas for several years, as he is a fanatical builder. He has saved many months of allowance to buy this fourth set on his own. That alone says worlds about how he feels about these blocks as compared to any other toy. I would never buy these blocks for a child that wasn't a fanatic about blocks, as they are expensive. Until you have several sets, your building options are limited. The blocks are small, table-top blocks. However,for those who are in it, they are simply The Best Blocks in the World!
