Very Cool, But Not For Wood Floors!

After reading reviews and seeing a bit on the Discovery Channel about PlasmaCars, I got one for my 2 year old. It looks very cool, like something from a Dr. Seuss book - in fact, when my son saw it he called it a helicopter. There are 2 main problems with the PlasmaCar. After putting it together and taking a dozen or so loops inside the house, I noticed that the last page of the instructions said it may damage wood floors. It should say that it will damage wood floors because there are about a dozen grooves in our floor now. And it really does need a very flat surface - any incline and you have to push. It rolls very smoothly, so taking it down hills is a blast, but plan on pulling back up. Pros: Very cool looking, Rolls smoothly
Steers well, Easy to put together, Holds an adult relatively comfortably Cons: Will damage wood floors, Needs very flat surfaces. All together its a great toy, but you need a very hard, very flat surface to fully enjoy the PlasmaCar. I only give the PlasmaCar 3 stars because the warning about the wood floors is buried at the back of the manual, rather than up front, which would have saved me the damage to my floors.

The Plasmacar was purchased for my 9 year old daughter. It does well on tile and hardwood floors as well as in our garage. It will not move on our carpet. It does not go very fast on pavement either. It turns on a dime and is a very cool concept, but wish there were more places to ride it.

The little car was good, but you need a large open area of smooth floor to really operate it in a way that would appeal to small children. It isn't as easy to get it going as I had thought from reading the reviews, so very young children may not figure it out before their attention span has expired.

The kids are having fun with it! I have to keep tightening the main bolt which it a little frustrating. Could be easily fixed with a notch to prevent slippage. Otherwise, a fun toy.

This was not as easy to assemble as expected. The steering column had to be tightened several times. After assembly, the car had limited entertainment potential for my 4 year old grandson.

I loved the idea of these racers, but my kids can't go up and down the sidewalks with them. It takes a lot of work and they are not big kids, (they are all very slender). So they race down the driveway with them.

It's different, which is nice. But it doesn't seem to grab the kids' attention as much as I was hoping. We have a 5 yr old & a 2 1/2 yr old. I bought it for the 2 1/2 yr old, and he has no interest for it. The 5 yr old kinda likes it. Maybe it will grow on them. For the moment, they only want to ride it if we (one of the parents) are also riding it. At that point, it's more like a clown car than anything else. The toy is certainly durable & survives ~ 200 lbs.

The steering is a major problem. The steering wheel will not stay in place no matter how hard you use the hex wrench to tighten it. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

My 8 year old is very excited with the car. Initially I had the wide tires in front so it did not move at all. I then put the small tires in front and it goes, but not very fast. I tried it, and not having the energy of a child, could not get it moving. In fairness to the car, the pavement we tried it on is a little rough. I am looking forward to going to a location where the cement is smooth and level.

I bought these for our grandchildren who are 17 months and 21 months old. I thought they would be able to make them work because the described motion to make it move seemed easy. I found that they were too young for it and also that the motion did not make the car move as easily as I thought it would from the other reviews. My daughters-in-law are light, small women so they tried the car and had to work fairly hard to make it move so I'm not sure if we are doing it right or not. On the plus side our grandchildren and their mothers were able to ride together and if they were on a downhill slope really had fun. It was easy to put together.

I can see this would be fun if used on an incline, or inside on a very smooth surface. Unfortunately, I thought it would work well on a path around the lake behind my house. No hills, I live in Florida.

The product hasn't been used yet. However, when putting it together, I noticed a defect in one of the front wheels. I can only hope it doesn't affect the ride or durability.
 |
 |
On the off-chance that this Plasma Car becomes a Plasma Car careening, we contacted James with information on receiving a replacement wheel.

Easy to assemble. My 3 year old grandson was able to get around on it. He needs some practice getting it to move smoothly. I think he will be able to enjoy it more when he gets the hang of moving his body. He tried it indoors. It may move faster out on the sidewalk.

The PlasmaCar doesn't seem to work the way I was told it would. It doesn't move very quickly.
 |
 |
The speed of the PlasmaCar is influenced by the surface it is used on. Smooth, flat surfaces provide for best mobility. Speed is also determined by the technique of the driver. Should your PlasmaCar not operate correctly, please do not hesitate to contact us. We're impressive at the mechanics of ensuring the best play possible. We will happily assist you. The car is quite simple. The Plasma Car does great on flat smooth surfaces, but on cement that is rough or has a pattern/stamped it doesn't do as well. Overall, I feel in the big picture The Plasma Car will be a great toy for my son to play with in the next several years.

We love the car but think we are missing a piece for the top above the steering wheel. This was too much assembly required! Next time I would buy a ride toy from a local store and get them to put it together!
 |
 |
The fun can't start when the car's missing parts. We put it in high gear to help and contacted Ms. Barsanti. If any purchase is short on performance or fun, make a u-turn quick. Please visit the Returns & Exchanges center.

Overall I think this is a great product. I wish it worked better on uneven surfaces. Works well on wood floors indoors but be warned as it can damage them.

Not sufficiently exciting to 3-6 year olds. Too much work, expecially on a flat surface. Having seen it in action, I would not order it.
Now I'm stuck with three that no one really wants to use.
