My grandsons love the slinkys. The only thing, which has always been the case, is that they kink very easily.

This version of the slinky is much better quality than the typical type found in toy stores. It is worth spending the extra money.

Reviewing a slinky is like reviewing a hoola hoop, it doesn't need to do much to perform at its highest level. Nevertheless, here goes:
The box that the collection edition slinky came housed in was awesome.
The nostalgic aura was beaming most excellently. The slinky itself was black and beautiful, a majestic sight to behold. The slinky, while slightly stiff, performed just as one would expect a slinky to perform and has already paid for itself through the enjoyment of my 11 year old son ( who just lost his best friend (dog named Sirius) as well as through the enjoyment that I have received by watching my son play with the collection edition slinky.
All in all, I am 100% happy with my investment in this fantabulous toy.

Always a crown pleaser and provides many hours of fun and creativity on the childs part. Encourages interactivity on the part of the user with the other children.

This was one of my favorite toys as a child, and now both of our children have the pleasure of playing with this sturdy version for years.

Fun for kids of all ages (even adults). The big one (classic) is so much more fun than the little ones!!!

A "classic American" toy ordered for my young girls (4 and 9). How can you go wrong with a Slinky right? Upon receiving the Slinkys (or is it Slinkies?) I found several surprises. First the good: Made in the USA. I love this attribute. Even better -manufactured in Plymouth Michigan, where I was born and raised. Nice sturdy box too. Next, the not-so-good: The product description says "classic black color." What it doesn't say is that the black color is not paint. Black is the color of bare, spring steel, which would be fine except that bare steel will rust. How do you keep steel from rusting? Coat it with oil. The major downside to this product is that it is covered with some kind of oil that would undoubtedly rub off on hands, clothes, furniture and carpet. They also smell like oil. Using a paper towel, it seems most of the oil and brownish grime can be removed, but this is kind of tedious as you can imagine. My other disappointment was that one of the two Slinkies arrived with what appears to be a manufacturing defect. The loose end of each spring is supposed to be crimped to the next-to-last ring with a small steel band. On one I received, this steel band was in place, but the end of the spring was not tucked inside it. The crimp is tight, which makes me think the end didn't just fall out, it never made it into the crimping machine. All-in-all, the girls are having fun with them, which is the most important thing. I'm confident the manufacturer will get the feedback they need and will make this an even better product soon.

My grandson has been wanting a Slinky for a long time. Now that he has stairs for the first time, I purchased the Slinky as a stocking stuffer. I have had plastic Slinkys for use at school so was pleased to see the metal ones. They work much better!

This vintage-looking metal slinky is wonderful! The quality is so much better than the commonly found plastic slinky, and will last much longer as well. It is definitely a toy that continues to entertain and please children, and will do so for many years to come. As an added bonus, no annoying talking or singing, and no batteries required!

Old Fashioned Slinky Rules!

The old fashioned metal slinky is vastly superior to the newer plastic ones. There are many physical phenomenon that can only be observed with the metal version. Our kids love it.

My boys love it! Someone suggested I buy the plastic version because it was cheaper, but I am glad I stuck with this one. It is well made and inexpensive. And like I said, my guys love it!

Slinkys Are So Much Fun!

We used the Slinkys to help keep little ones entertained while they waited their turn for wedding pictures. The price allowed us to buy enough for every ring bearer, flower girl and candle lighter. In spite of being a "quiet" toy, (the foyer of the church was perfect), the kids had a blast playing with them!

My two sons, 4 years and 6 1/2 years, both love Slinkys. Also, I highly recommend purchasing the original Slinky. The plastic or even metal imitations aren't worth it even if they were free. They always tangle, don't work on stairs, and basically, cause a lot of frustration.

I have the Slinky by my desk at work and use it as a stress reliever. My colleague uses it as a decoration! A lot of us have them and we all love it. As an engineer, my favorite trick is to demonstrate wave propagation and reflection using the Slinky. This is a very cool looking, simple but smart toy.

My stepson recieved a Slinky for a gift, and it was soon pulled apart by the other kids and was non-functional. (There was no slink left in the slinky.) I set out to find another one just like it...He has since enjoyed playing with the new one, now that he knows how to use it.

We were finding that the current plastic slinky toys were rather easily bent and not like the ones we remembered from years age. We are pleased to have the original metal version. We are sure they will stand up well and give our grandchildren many hours of fun.

Truly a Classic!

If I had to choose a true classic in childrens toys I would have to say it's "Slinky". It's a combination of the sound of it (that "schikkk, schikkkk...), the fact that it's very simple and lo-tech (batteries NOT required!)........AND It can walk down stairs! How cool is that!?! I remember just enjoying the feel of holding one end in each hand and see-sawing my hands up and down. So, when I pulled this "Collector's Edition" Slinky (love the matte black color of this one, not the silver that I remembered) out of the box I had to see-saw it just a couple times.....MMMMMMMmmmmmm, just like old times. Slinkies still have the fatal flaw of being able to tangle and stretch out but hey, any toy can be broken. Still it's as much fun now as ever. Love it.

I ordered two as gifts for friends and so I had to check it out before sending it to them; I actually included the 1945 patent for the original slinky along with it.
It's great and I think you should continue to sell it! I'm thinking of buying one for myself.

I ordered 2 Slinkys and both of them arrived in perfect condition, including their individual cardboard boxes. Kids enjoyed the gifts as much as I did when I was a kid! Great throwback item and the 'black metal' Slinky is superior to what i normally see in stores.

The slinky arrived in excellent non-damaged condition. It will be a Christmas gift for my son, but of course I had to play with it a few minutes after he went to bed. I'm sure he will develop the same fond memories that I have as a child playing with the ingenoius toy.

Slinky
Posted 2/16/2006 by Ms. Lowe

Rating:

I was really looking forward to the arrival of the Slinky we ordered because I had had one as a child and remembered the delight I experienced when playing with it back then. However, this slinky, rather than being made of a heavy round metal ring, seems to have
an element of plastic in it and rather than being round, the rings are flattened. The result is that within hours of receiving it, the slinky got entangled and as we tried to unravel it, it got bent out of shape. The fact that it is so light weight also contributed to difficulties in making it go down steps easily. It sort of just slid around. In conclusion, it was a great disappointment and I believe, a waste of money. Rather than a gift certificate I would wish my money back, because I think it was sort of false advertisement to call it a "Collectors Edition": it was nothing like the original. (Note from Fat Brain Toys: No longer snarled by a defective slinky, Ms. Lowe promptly received a full refund.)
