Great First Game For Toddlers
Posted 1/5/2008 by Beth S.

Rating:

We purchased this game for our daughter, who turns three in 4 months, as a present. It is a great introduction to playing games in that it teaches your child to take turns, roll dice, interpret what the dice "say" to do, and do it (in the case of this game, it's just moving the appropriately colored snail). All without the added complication of keeping straight whose token is whose or teaching your child to be a good winner/loser. (That will come later!) The snails are fairly large and chunky, perfect for little hands. Our daughter asks to play the "snail game" at least once a day, and has names for all the snails. We've had more luck getting her to follow the "rules" for this game (as much can be expected for someone her age) than the other ages 3 and up games we've tried. Highly recommend the game to others wanted a simple, straightforward game with which to introduce their child or grandchild to the world of board games!

My Favorite Game

I used this game in my classroom when I was a pre-K teacher. The children loved it. Well made. It held up to the wear and tear that happens in a classroom setting. The children had a great time learning their colors, matching the dice to the snail and making up their own rules. I've bought it now for my nephews who are 3 and 5.

Very well constructed. This game was a purchase for my 2 1/2 year old grandson. I was looking for a game that had no one particular person being the winner. This game is perfect just for that. It was enjoyed by him, and practice for color recognition and counting spaces. He likes the snails very much. I am completely satisfied with this purchase.

I loved the game, and it was an excellent choice for my son. He and his sister figured the game out quickly and have since enjoyed many "matches." I am happy that they can play it on their own without adult intervention and also that it is non-competitive. They were cheering for each other throughout!

This game is easy to learn to play, only requires color matching skills and basic counting skills, and can be used in a variety of non-competitive and competitve ways. It's the perfect toy!

a cute, fun game

I bought this for my mom to play with her grandkids. The kids are four and three and they liked it very much. the colors are bright and fun and the game moves quickly which is perfect for their ages. it was a little confusing for them at first because you don't stick with moving just one color snail, but move any color based on the color die you roll, but they quickly got the hang of it.
a fun, cute game.

The wood pieces are nice and durable. I gave the game to a 2-year-old for her birthday and she is already rolling the dice! The game is also helping her to learn her colors. It is definitely a game she will grow into. The only concern I have is that she may loose the dice.

This is a great first game for young children. My daughter loves to roll the dice and move the snails. It is great for turn taking and color recognition. The snails are competing, not the children.

I feel the product is great for children. The only thing I would change is to make the board bigger so that the snails can be spaced out a little more. Small children have a hard time moving the snails without knocking down the snails around them.

I love this game. I first owned it 20 years ago when my first son was a toddler. I bought another one for my daughter, who is now 20 months old. Great game!
