Nice presentation and appeal. Simple yet challenging for all age levels. Well thought-out product. Excellent if you enjoy solving puzzles. Deluxe edition could be a classy gift. Wish additional card sets were not so expensive.

As an owner of one of the earliest releases of the very nicely-done Tangoes tangram game, I thought this wood and aluminum version would be a good addition to my puzzle collection. I was correct, it's definitely a step up from the basic plastic version (which as plastic toys go is pretty nice itself). But for the money, it seems like it should be a little nicer than it is. My biggest concern are the aluminum parts. Making the cover wood and the slide-out tray aluminum is a very nice touch. But the tray is cast aluminum, and while that's definitely a more efficient use of the materials (than, say...milled or welded), it definitely screams out "mass produced!" and reminds me a lot of other cast-metal toys (matchbox cars, etc.). Likewise the aluminum puzzle pieces. These appear to be stamped aluminum, and they have the classic rounded edge on one side, and sharp corners on the other. This keeps them firmly in the aesthetic realm of low-cost, mass-produced stuff. Rex missed an opportunity to create a really nice "adult's puzzle game" here. There's not really anything wrong with the product, but even just machining/sanding/whatever the corners of the puzzle pieces would have significantly improved the physical feel of the game (and frankly, that's the point, isn't it? I can play tangrams on my computer, or with cut or torn pieces of paper, so the reason to buy something like this is for the sensual pleasure of manipulating nice puzzle pieces). So, no perfect score for this product, though I do like it well enough for it to get 4 stars.

Tangoes makes for a terrific game that can be played individually or with family / friends of all ages (particularly while you're traveling). The structure of the game itself is very simple, but the act of playing it can be highly engrossing and challenging as it forces the player(s) to think beyond simple logic and structural forms. I would recommend this game to one and all.

Tangoes is a great puzzle generally, but Tangoes Deluxe provides a perfect puzzle to place on a desk at work or on a nice table in your home.
