For goody bag
Posted 1/24/2010 by Mom of two

Rating:

I bought this toy for my daughter's b-day goody bags. I filled it up with gummy-insects and some plastic insects. The kids loved their goody bags. My daughter kept one and has been looking for insects to store in them to watch how they grow.

It is a great little jar and a great price. The jar is a little small but it is lots of fun for my son.

It could use vent holes. My grandson was worried about the bug he was viewing dying because it couldn't breathe.

I purchased these to be used as part of a gift bag for my daughter's 3rd birthday party. We released ladybugs and each child was able to catch a few into the bug jar. They loved looking at them through the magnifying glass. My daughter is still intrigued. The lid is fairly hard for a young child to get off, which is good because I don't want ladybugs - or other insects - getting released in my house!

The jar is a bit smaller than I thought it would be, but it's a great size and looks to be fantastic. I love the two levels of magnification, thick walls and durable construction.

Great Little Gift
Posted 3/7/2008 by Marla

Rating:

I think the bug jar is great to catch bugs that have wandered into the house, get a close look at them, and then put them back outside where they belong. It is also about the right size and price to put in a Christmas stocking, Easter basket, party goodie bag, . . .

Excellent Product
Posted 3/22/2011

Rating:

I'm very impressed with the quality of this item. It is heavy plastic and seems durable. The two magnifying lenses on the lid allow for two different viewing powers and, unlike most toy magnifying glasses, they provide a very good, detailed view of what is inside the jar. Does what it was designed to do, provide a short term home for insects so your child can safely view them up close.

this is the world's best bug jar!

As an adult we use this bug jar to collect specimens outside as well as inside to show the exterminatro when he comes and can identify what our pest problem is. Several friends have asked me "where'd you get that bug jar" so I purchase several and give them away as gifts. We all use them with our grandchildren when they are over as well . The magnifier on top of this one is great. Others I've used did not have this feature and I was not as pleased as with this one. Very pleased with this product!!

Great little bug jar

As a mother of a bug-crazy 6 yo son, I am very happy to have this jar in my house. Gone are the days of "Mom, I need this right now!" as he absconded off with one of my jam jars or food containers. We found a Jerusalem cricket (cara de nino), which is one big ugly bug, and this jar, although small, did the job beautifully....til my husband kept getting nightmares about it and we let the bug go. I guess it didn't help I stored it in the pantry overnight and he got a morning surprise. Oops. Anyways, great jar! Buy one if you've got a bug crazy kid in your house! The only thing I'd like to see is a higher magnication. Also, I used this jar as a party favor at the "bug party" we just had, filled with live ladybugs for the kids to take home, and it was a BIG hit.

World's Best Bug Jar

I bought 4 of these and plan to use as favors for grandchildren during our family Christmas dinner at a local restaurant. I will fill them with little Christmas goodies. I was so impressed by the quality, that I purchased 4 more to take to the Outer Banks over Thanksgiving to use as birthday favors for our 2 year old granddaughter's family party, since they can't join us at Christmas this year. I will fill them with jelly worms; afterwards the children can enjoy using them while searching for beach creatures. I like the 2 12/" x 2 1/2" size. I think it's perfect for our 2 - 8 year olds. The 2-level magnification works! No wavy hard to see problems with this bug jar.

I have not seen it in use yet, but it certainly looks like a great bug catcher toy--in fact after seeing it, I ordered another for a child in another state.

Although the product is well made, it does not come with the spider shown in the picture(s). It works really well, and my 3 year old son loves it! I actually bought a whole bunch this time around to give out for favors for his 4th birthday party.

Truly the best bug jar

Our Friends group assembled a backpack for kids to take outside with them and the bug jar has been a hit. We are using it for aquatic invertebrates and it really works great. The size is perfect and it magnifies the bug quite a bit. The materials are quite sturdy. My son has had other bug containters, but this one really steals the show!

Fat Brain Toys Is the Best
Posted 1/16/2008 by Mindy Harris

Rating:

The bug jar was a little bit smaller than I thought it would be, but I didn't expect it to be huge, maybe you could put the sizes on your site. But the jar is WONDERFUL. The magnification is not just distortion as it is with most children's "toy" bug things. You can see clearly when you look into the 2x and even the 4x magnifiers. We just love this bug jar. And as for the small size, it is really nice because it keeps kids from putting a bunch of bugs inside and with only one you can really get a good look at all of the bugs parts. We love this, and may even order more for keeping separate bugs to observe at the same time and compare. Thank you for having such a good quality product for such a LOW price. We love Fat Brain Toys

Good for small bugs but not enough room to observe larger ones. My 5 year old likes to see how they move up close.

I bought 2 of these, one for my niece and one for my daughter, and they love them. The product is excellent and little kids just love to look at bugs close up like this.

This is a pretty standard "bug box" but we use it all the time. We had another one but it got occupied by a long-term resident (cocoon) so we needed another one. This one is a step up from our old on in that it has a magnifying glass on top so we can examine our little friends even closer. My daughter is 3 and really enjoys this toy.

The product is cute but it is way small. I don't know if the dimensions were listed on the description or not (they probably are and I just didn't see it) but it is not what I expected size wise.

My son loved receiving the bug jar and has "caught" and magnified all sorts of things. The jar is small but then so are insects!
