I used 3 of these for my 5th grade science class. Great hands-on activity to introduce children to gears and springs. The only one of its kind that I could find.

Lots of Gears

Rating:

The partially preassembled clock is really fun to assemble. After one hour it made the "tick-tock" noise and our daughter was happy. The description is easy to follow. The accuracy of the clock is not impressive, but also not important.

Not Bad, Not Great

Unlike every other Schylling toy we've ever bought, I'm not sure I'd buy another of these or recommend it to someone else. The instructions for assembly are straightforward, and the gears go into place fairly quickly and easily. It all starts to get tricky when you go to put the face on. I ended up have to disassemble the clock because the front post on the drive gear was not exactly right in its hole on the face. The screws/holes for mounting the face are also a bit fussy, and the top screw on our unit was impossible to screw in to the point where there was no play. The third issue with the clock is the pendulum mount on the back is far too flimsy, and flexes easily and far enough to disengage the pendulum. Overall, do we enjoy the clock? Yes, though an all plastic/acrylic clock is a bit on the loud side.

Clock To Assemble

The clock is functional and not just a toy. It helped my children to actually see the gears in motion and how the clock works. Very useful!
