Nephew loved it!

My 6YO nephew really enjoyed this, with lots of help and guidance from dad. An older child (age range is 7-12) would likely require only supervision and would be able to do much him/herself. Definitely stimulates scientific thinking, and a great introduction into the world of electricity!

MY son was working with something like this in his 3rd grade class and he seemed to be very interseted in it so I ordered the "First Electronincs" book and kit. He was thrilled when he got it and I told him he needed to read the book so he could learn what he was doing. I liked the wires with the banana leads and the small jacks to plug them together. I liked it better than using a bread board. There were two things that I think should be changed. When you unplugged the banana plugs the insulating plastic piece came off the plug, but stayed on the wire. We had to force it back on. The other problem was the connection on the battery pack. RTV (clear silicone) was used to cover the wire connection and hold it to the case. It doesn't stick well to plastic and when you unplugged it the RTV came off the plastic and the wire connection broke.

Lights, Wires, and Wheels

I just finished using this product with two elementary school boys that I am teaching for 10 weeks while they are staying in my area. These brothers - 2nd grade and 4th grade- attend a private school and I've planned an electricity unit per their teacher's request. I ordered this product because I thought it would be a fun, hands-on way to get two brothers to "discover" science together. I used it after a short introductory lesson about atoms, electrons, and electricity and they truly enjoyed it. They read the introductory pages first - which are fun and educational - and then I just "set them free" to follow the directions in the rest of the book. The pictures are clear to understand and the boys zipped through all the "demonstrations" in about 45 min. I wouldn't say this toy provides hours of entertainment. But it is a useful introduction to how circuits and electricity works.

The toy was engaging enough for my eleven year old son. The activities were straightforward, and my son didn't require much help.

This is a very nice kit. It has all the stuff needed to do various projects and help to inspire the little engineer in each of you little ones.
