Made ofr Trade is made for FUN!
Posted 1/1/2010 by Pamela J Miller

Rating:

Our 5 year old son LOVED this game! Though we have only played the Tourist version of the game (still have 3 other versions to go), we loved the names of the characters (HE always wants to be Eliza Oglethorpe), all the objects you collect, that you travel throughout the town, and especially how you barter for objects and collect shillings. Really helped him understand Colonial exchange rates! ...and "indentured servitude." NB: Though the game says it is for 8 - 12 year olds onwards, our little boy learned to read very early on, and LOVES reading about Colonial tools, so this was right up his alley. VERY gladSanta brought this,a nd know he will love playing it with his schoolmates.

Made for the Trade

I ordered this game for my 7 year old daughter who is fascinated by Colonial America. Our famiy played it the day we received it in the mail and it was great fun! It's nice that there are 3 different levels of play. The first level was a bit too easy, but the 2nd and 3rd levels were challenging and interesting enough to hold everyone's attention. I know we will play this for quite some time to come.

Savvy Parent

Rating:

This game has captivated both my 5 year old and 7 year old sons with its three levels of play all revolving around trading and acquiring items found in Colonial times. The rules of the game are simple but there is some strategy involved in the timing of purchasing or trading items. My kids find it fun to enter each shop whether it be the music, silversmiths, or ironsmiths and look over the items up for sale. It has engendered some great discussions about Colonial times. Especially since there is a bit of background information in the rules that put each item in its historical context. Overall, it is a great educational buy.

While I like the overall concept of the game, my kids lost interest relatively quickly. Need more detail in the directions.

My nine year old son had a friend recommend this game and he loves it. From the time he opened the box to set it up (which was fun), to the games he is playing with our family, it's been great.

Not What We Expected
Posted 8/14/2007 by New York Family

Rating:

Players go round the board collecting items on their character's shopping list. There is no ready description of the items, or an explanation as to why the character would use the item. Yes, there are sources included that do provide descriptions, but they are not part of the game. The information is not interwoven into the game. The "Event" cards are good for quick historical synopses, but they are repetitive. A satisfactory board game, but not a historical stand out. In short, the game was a disappointment.

Great game for my 8 and 10 year olds. They enjoy board games and the different levels of play made it easy to learn the whole game a level at a time.

Fantastic History Game!
Posted 8/19/2007 by Rachel Timm

Rating:

This game has been a long-time favorite of homeschool families for teaching about colonial times. Made for Trade is a fantastic tool for developing interest in history and the kids seem to agree! The art of good bartering formed the basis for our modern economy and free market system. It's a blast to try it ourselves! Our whole family highly recommends this fine game!

This is a great educational game. The kids have a lot of fun playing it and are asking great questions like "What is a shilling and what did it mean then and what does it mean now?" and "What is a decanter?" They don't get bored because there are increasing difficulty levels of play. I strongly recommend this game as a thinking game for the kids.

My 10 year old daughter and I both liked the concept, and have enjoyed making the rounds around the board. However, the instructions are murky and leave several unanswered questions as to the actual rules of play. If you like history and want to see what kinds of items were available to buy and sell, and are not a stickler for details, this is a neat game.

Great quality game! I purchased this for use at our homeschool co-op with 6th and 7th graders. They really enjoyed it. There are many rules and many different situations which makes playing a little difficult. Overall, it was alot of fun and a good learning experience.

Great Family Game

A high quality board game which both my third and fifth graders have found very enjoyable. (I agree with game level listed as ages 8 and up.) Game offers 3 levels of play, so we will be able to enjoy it for a long time. It has definitely encouraged my children's interest in early American history!

This game is very educational for those who are interested in the colonial time period. My 9 year old enjoys history, and she is currently studying this in school. It was a perfect game for her. The game includes items and places that existed during this time period. There are different levels of the game and this makes it challenging for all.

This game will be a great addition to our family of games. We look for educational games that our 7 year old son can learn from and this meets and exceeds all of our criteria. As a homeschooling family we enjoy teaching our son the importance of history and this game ties in with our curriculum and will for years to come.
