The Basics - With Quirks

This is a basic affordable marble run. I bought it for my 4 year old mechanical genius son. It offered much more of a challenge for him than the other simpler building toys he is already familiar with. On the plus side, he does enjoy the set. On the minus side, there are some design flaws. These blocks did not come with directions or idea sheets of any kind, they do not combine with unit blocks, the marbles sometimes hang up in designs that you thought for sure would work (e.g. flat spots on one end of the long run pieces, so if a marble drops straight down on the end it just sits there, tracks that aren't deep enough to let a marble pass unless there is a second layer of track over it). Maybe I'm missing something, but we can't figure out more than three ways to combine these blocks to make runs. And if we are missing something, gosh it would have been nice to have an idea sheet. In the end, given the budget we had, I think I still would buy these (they have more blocks than other inexpensive sets). However, I wouldn't think you were crazy if you decided to buy something else.
