Good, Solid Beginner Chemistry Set
Posted 10/7/2009 by Bonnie S.

Rating:

The kit describes a large number of experiments that can be performed with the items included plus a list of commonly found household items. It would be better if they included the household items, however. I'd pay a few more dollars to have them included as I now need to run to the store for disposable coffee filters among a few other things. I liked the safety information in the beginning. I liked the way that the set and the expereriments look real and important and respectable. My children feel important when they work with this set. Be sure to order extra goggles for other children in your family. I recommend in-room supervision even for strong readers.

Perfect for the budding chemist
Posted 12/1/2008 by Michael O

Rating:

This is the perfect introductory chemistry kit for ages 9 (they say 10) and up. The materials are of the highest quality, made in Germany. The 40-page experiment manual is extremely well written and well illustrated, providing clear instructions for each of the 75 experiments possible. You'll want to read the list of additional household items needed (on page 2) prior to wrapping this as a gift so that you'll have essential items on hand for your first experiments. I highly recommend this kit, and anticipate ordering the 2000 or 3000 kit in the future (once they've graduated from the 1000 kit).

Great for budding scientists

My 8-yr old son is exploring all the experiments - he loves this kit. My only complaint is that the safety glasses were much too large. Even though the age recommendation is 10 and up, they would even be too large for a 10-yr old. But other than that, the kit is great.

Chemistry set a must have for budding scientists!
Posted 7/16/2008 by Anne E. Byers

Rating:

The C1000 chemistry set is an outstanding product. Everything that comes with it is "the real deal" (real glass test tubes, real chemicals). Adult supervision is required depending on the age of the child using it but that should be looked at as valuable one on one time spent with your child helping them to discover the wonders of science. A quality product all the way around.

FOR THE BUDDING SCIENTIST
Posted 2/20/2008

My 10-year-old got this for his birthday. He was asking for the CHEM-3000, but I thought we would start here. Good choice, he comes home from school and wants to do another experiment and he's keeping a journal of his results.

Our 10 year old son recieved this for Christmas. He has enjoyed the set & views it as playing not learning. His younger sisters want to play with him to It holds his attention and is a great alternative to TV or vidio games on days he can't go outside.

Exactly what I was looking for as a first Chemistry set for our 9 year old daughter. I think she's going to love it and I can't wait for her to get it so I can play with it too.

So far, my 10 year old daughter has completed about 6 experiments. She is enjoying this product very much. I can see now that we are going to run out of some material. Is there a way to order pieces of equipment (e.g. reagents, filter paper, etc). It would be nice to have a replacement order sheet with prices. Also, for the adults supervising, it would be nice to have a booklet with simple explanations of the chemical reactions behind these experiments.

Great set

I bought this for my 10-year-old *budding chemist* and she adores it. She especially loved that it included the instructions and chemicals to make reactions - much better than some cheaper sets that only include a few test tubes and not much else. I highly recommend this toy.

Way Cool, As The Kids Would Say
Posted 12/14/2005 by Judith M Goddard

Rating:

I think my Navy pilot, microbiologist son-in-law was more anxious to get started using it than the kids for whom it was purchased. It will afford many hours of fun, and must be exceptional in content or he wouldn't have been so interested. And the kids loved it too. Hope they don't blow up anything! Thanks to you; your website and products are fantastic. Respectfully, Judy Goddard

Needs improvement
Posted 9/4/2008 by Becky McDowell

Rating:

There was no case to store all the supplies in and the directions were very text heavy. The very first experiment in the book has you mix a chemical with water then wait 24 hours before proceeding, this would have been very disheartening for my nephew if I hadn't caught it ahead of time and prepared the solution myself. Improvements need to be made.

Tremendous Fun!

My son adores this set. He anxiously awaited its arrival and has been thrilled with it over and over since then. A great quantity of great quality materials make this the best beginner's chemistry set I've seen. My only criticism is that the directions are not easily adapted for special needs children. I would have loved for my son to read the directions himself. Other than that, it's a fantastic product.

Overall, the set is very nice. I purchased it for my son's 9th birthday for "to do together" projects. (I am aware that it's rated for ten and older.) The set includes fun, easy projects to do. One bad note-a test tube broke while putting it together. The glass is very thin.

A Very Nice Chemistry Set
Posted 7/24/2006 by Ray Ancel

Rating:

Setting: Homeschool

What swayed us toward this particular chemistry set was the expandability. The instructions are clear and our son is enjoying it very much. It hits so many specific targets for him, like science and technically detail oriented procedures while at the same time he has a great deal of fun with the "magic trick" aspect and entertaining his brothers and friends. It's a hit for sure. I only wish it came with a carrying case. I wish more toy manufacturers would get with the program and realize their products, especially those with numerous individual pieces, need to be packed up and stored when they're not being played with.

I was slightly dissappointed in this toy in that I was hoping it came in a case that my son could keep all the pieces in. The syrofoam will not work well in the long term.

My 11 year old really enjoys the set, but is complaining of the 3 or more full size pages with small printing of instructions that he has to read. I think they could have made the reading more easier for children.

Protocols/instructions are not clearly written. Too hard to follow even for adults. Not near as much fun as the old Gilbert Chemistry sets!

Great For Homeschooling

I bought this Chemistry set for my 4th grade homeschooled son. We haven't begun any experiements yet, but we were pleased with the general layout and level of instruction the enclosed booklet provided. I had shopped various kits and separate components, and found this kit at Fat Brain to be the best value for the supplies.
