This kit is one of the few chemistry sets out there that really offer an "old style" experience. Over the last 20 years many chemistry sets have removed most of their chemicals. This kit ignores that trend and has just about everything you could need. The instructions could be done a bit better but overall I highly reccomend this kit.

Outstanding Product

This kit has everything you could want in a Chemistry set. It includes test tubes, ring stand, funnels, Erlenmeyer flask, pipettes, litmus paper, and chemicals. The manual is particularly well done. There are several chemicals that are not included in the kit for various reasons. Hydrochloric Acid, Sodium Hydxroxide, Hydrogen Peroxide, Denatured Alcohol, and Silver Nitrate. You can get HCl and Denatured Alcohol from a hardware store (HCl is also called Muriatic Acid - you will need to dillute it), Hydrogen Peroxide from a drug store... I went to several photography stores looking for Silver Nitrate.. Not available. Have to order it on the web. Same for Sodium Hydroxide, although you can produce small amounts from the materials in the kit (p.85). Thames & Kosmos customer service was great. I e-mailed them concerning the Silver Nitrate, and received the following links the next day: United Nuclear and Online Science Mall
Started doing experiments this past weekend with my boys. Their reactions?
"Chemistry is SO COOL, Thanks, Dad!"
"Dad, I really love Science, particularly Chemistry."
"This is the greatest!, Thanks!"
"AWESOME!"
Well worth what I spent for the kit.

Chem C3000 is Pretty Cool

Nothing cheesy in the box. Nice flasks, test tubes, etc. Best thing was one of the first experiments was playing with fire! My son and I had a blast.

Excellent Product

I remember having a Chemistry set as a child that really left me feeling that I had a laboratory of my own in my room. It was my pride and joy. So when my daughter recently asked for one, I set out to find something that might bring the same joy to her. Having now received the CHEM C3000 I am convinced this was the right choice. In fact, I wish I'd had it when I was young, who knows what I might have concocted. This is a very advanced kit for the age group, but put together in a way that will frighten no one. Well worth a look.

A perfect product for pre-teens! It catches my pre-teens curiosity well, and he enjoys the learning rewards when he engages with this product! He enjoys it more when he engages with it with an adult with patience.

CHEM C3000
Posted 10/23/2006 by L.F.

Rating:

CHEM 3000 serves as a good introduction for children who are really interested with chemistry. The product is good because everything you need is inside the box. The book is complete with challenging experiments to get the children interested with the technical side. The only drawback is the price.
