We haven't had a chance to play the game yet, but it looks great! I'm hoping both my 7 and 9 year olds will be able to play together (for once!)

This game is wonderful for developing problem solving and reasoning skills. My four kids all found a challenge in the 40+ puzzle cards. Great game!

for kids?
Posted 7/8/2008 by Elizabeth Weiss Ozorak

Rating:

The puzzle comes with a range of challenges. The easiest ones would be fine for kids. But an honors-level high school senior and a smart adult could only get halfway through the hard ones, so I can imagine this would be a potentially frustrating puzzle for kids at the lower end of the age range.

Safari Rush Hour

My special education students figured out Rush Hour in the first week, but this game, Safari Rush Hour, is not quite as easy for them. It has really good size and shape and I would recommend it to Rush Hour players as a step up.

What a Fantastic Game!!!
Posted 4/5/2008 by Matt S.

Rating:

This is a wonderful, cleverly designed game that is at once challenging, cognitively stimulating, and extremely fun. I'm a First Grade teacher (of six and seven year olds), though I actually bought this game for my own son who is only three and a half and has a huge passion for trains. Although the game is WAY too advanced for him to be played according to the rules, he still enjoys arranging the train cars on the grid in different configurations. Although he's not old enough to actually solve the puzzles, simply copying the layouts from the cards included with the game is an excellent mapping and visual/spatial exercise for a young mind. Another variation for a younger player is simply trying to figure out how to get all of the cars back into the grid (this can be tricky as there is only exactly enough squares to fit all the cars). The best part is, after he helps me set up the puzzle I get to solve it! It's a really fun, challenging and addictive game. Even some of the "Beginner" puzzles present a formidable challenge. The box says 8-12 which sounds about right. As a teacher and parent I highly recommend this game, especially for any train enthusiasts. It has the potential to provide hours of fun while at the same time being intellectually stimulating on a number of different levels. A+

Like the original Rush Hour, RR Rush Hour is a hit with my kids! The larger playing board and pieces make it more accessible to younger players. I will incorporate RRRH into my "Rush Hour Challenge!": 1st one to solve all 40 challenges wins their own copy of the game! The kids love the contest (their progress is posted on their own Rush Hour Challenge charts). Many parents have thanked me for showing their children an alternative to electronic gadgetry!!

Great Game

Thanks to Fat Brain Toys I now own the complete Rush Hour collection and would definitely say it's another great product from ThinkFun. If you like the original Rush Hour, you should really enjoy this. The four big differences are: 1. Two pieces that can move in four directions instead of two 2. Two exits for the red engine - each puzzle tells you which to use 3. A 7x7 grid instead of a 6x6 grid. 4. There is no card tray to hold your cards. This is the only thing that disappointed me about the game. I feel this is a great product and I've really enjoyed using it.

My rating of Railroad Rush Hour

I am using Railroad Rush Hour in my 3rd grade classroom. The children love it. Gives them a chance to use their thinking skills, without knowing it. They are just having fun. Someone is always asking to play. The pieces do not always slide too easily. It doesn't prevent the objective from happening. I wish their was a drawer for the cards to be stored, like Rush Hour.

I gave it to my 6 year old grandson for his birthday and though it is labeled for somewhat older children he can still have fun with it. He loves trains so thought this would be a fun puzzle that he can play with for a long time. So far he seems to really be enjoying it.

Great Game For All Ages

Great game to encourage problem solving skills. Well constructed, generously sized bag to hold it all. I like the added complexity of the multidirectional baggage platforms and 2 possible exits. I miss the card holder in the bottom of the game board, like in the original Rush Hour

I purchased Railroad Rush Hour for my 9 year old nephew, and he started playing it the same day, repeatedly. He had played Rush Hour before (unbeknownst to me,) and was very excited for the railroad version. His mom has also started to play it and found the levels increasingly challenging, yet interest-holding. (My nephew likes to tell her how easy some of the cards she is doing are.) It looks like it will be a great mind-teaser that he can play on his own.

This is a fun way to have variety in the "Rush Hour" series. I ordered it for train lovers and for multiple gifts of the same game. I love the colors and the ease of packing it up and taking it along. Our family has it out on the coffee table and it is constantly being tried. I brought one to school for my 5th grade students for indoor recess. It is a hit! Thank you for your expertise in choosing fun products.

I bought this for my son because his speech therapist uses one of the Rush Hour games in her session. He loves trains so I thought this would help him with his colors. I was amazed on how much he improved after the first time he sat down with it. This is a great toy for all my kids!

Bigger Rush Hour
Posted 7/30/2007 by Alicia M. Humphreys

Rating:

Lots of fun. It's about 50% larger than the Rush Hour game board with pieces that move horizontally and vertically - a real challenge. Highly recommended. My only disappointment was that the game board does not have the built in card tray available on the regular Rush Hour game board.

Great Fun, Good Next Step After Rush Hour

I am a mother of five and a math teacher. I have had the original Rush Hour, Rush Hour Jr. and Safari Rush Hour at home and in my high school classroom. I decided to splurge on Railroad Rush hour and am very glad I did. My students have already enjoyed playing with it. The Rush Hour toys are so fun that my students think they are pulling one over on me when they play with them. I know I'm sharpening their thinking skills. I love it. I find all the Think Fun brand games to be wonderful.

Love the Railroad Game
Posted 4/12/2007

Rating:

I am very pleased with this game. I purchased it to play with my grandson (9 years old) who loves anything about trains. He is ADHD and finds it difficult to play games where you have to count spaces to move pieces. With this game you get to move pieces, but you have to think about what will work. Even setting up the board is good mental stimulation. And above all, it is fun! I think; however, we're going to wish we could get some more cards - especially for the junior/beginner range.

Wow! I first saw Railroad Rush Hour at my sister's home and watched 5 and 7 year old boys have a great time. I purchased it for my 6 year old nephew's birthday. After he rode his new bike around the block, he came in, we opened it up, and he proceeded to go through 1 - 6 in the junior (starting) card category. I hoped it would be an alternative to game boy and it was a huge success. To watch him setting up the cars, thinking through the moves and succeeding in getting the red engine free was just the best. Probably even better was that his older sister and brother, both 8, were just as eager to play. -P.S. Mom loved that it came with it's own Railroad fabric bag that everything went in easily for storage.

A+ For All Ages/Abilities
Posted 1/16/2007 by Adam Davidson

Rating:

A great logic puzzle game that is amazingly adaptable to suit the widest possible range of abilities. The game comes with 50 puzzle cards that show you how to set up the board with the trains required to do each puzzle. In each case, the idea is to get the little red engine to drive off the game board...but lots of other trains are in the way. The challenge is in moving the pieces around to let the train pass. The (shortest) solution is on the back of each card for those who frustrate quickly. My 3 year old son loves to do the easiest "junior" level puzzles (not to mention the brightly colored train pieces), while a good friend who is an expert gamer and chess player struggles with the advanced "expert" puzzles. In between are beginner, intermediate, and advanced for the rest of us. In addition to the fun you have playing this game, anyone who gets engrossed in it unavoidably develops their critical thinking skills and the ability to see and think ahead in the game...which of course pays dividends in other ways. Can't go wrong with this one.

My daughter loved the game. She found it challenging and fun. It took her only a few days to complete all 60 cards, as she enjoyed it so much she spent all of her spare time trying each of the puzzles. She is already working on trying each of the variations a second time.

I have bought the Railroad Rush Hour as gifts, I know they will enjoy them as much as the Jam Traffic Rush Hour. Those have been enjoyed. I even gave one to my grandson to take back to Mississippi and his Dad works with children at school sorta like a counselor and he is planning to get some to use there. They are great games for everyone - children and adults.

Great Puzzle Game
Posted 8/9/2006 by S McEntee

Rating:

My 5 year old son was introduced to this game by his 7 year old cousin while we were camping. Since my son is big on trains he immediately took to it, with all the little train engine and boxcar pieces. I ordered the game and my son counted down the days for it to arrive and greeted the delivery man at the top of the stairs. He loves it. He's five, so he doesn't quite have the patience to sit and solve each puzzle one by one, however, he has attempted and succeeded at the first few cards. In time I think that he will become more interested in the puzzle aspect of it. For now, he is content to arrange the pieces on the board or line them up on the table. He's also learning how to sort by keeping the cards in order. This game comes with a handy drawstring bag to keep all the pieces together in. What's also nice about this game is that the pieces are large enough so that if you drop them under the table they don't get lost (like with River Crossing, another good puzzle game). My daughter (also five), has no interest in this puzzle. She sees the trains and immediately is turned off. She has asked for the regular Rush Hour puzzle, but I can tell that she's not really interested in having it. It's too bad they can't design just a few of these puzzle games with a little more pink and purple (maybe some fairies or puppies) to grab this set of girls that struggle with analytical activities.
