Excellent Toy, Poor Instructions

I think that the Uberstix is an excellent construction set for technically inclined kids. Quite complex to start with, it is very versatile, offering countless opportunities for creativity. The pieces can be connected many different ways and allow for incorporation of a variety of non-uberstix objects. The sets are compatible with and can easily be expanded with other ubersix products. Not too good for younger kids who would actually want to play with their (or their parents) creations: pieces do not hold together strongly enough to form more than a display construction. The colors could be more variegated (our set has only gray and orange). The instructions are rather poorly organized, and take a lot of figuring out how everything goes together. I am a research scientist with a skill and fondness for this kind of stuff, but I found putting the Ubertropolis tower together quite trying for my patience. While the need for figuring something out is not necessarily bad in itself, this is not too good for a "101" set, that is supposed to get you started. To give an example of the organizational faults of the package, we got several booklets with it that were not even clearly marked to tell the difference between general instructions, instructions for this specific set, and promotional ads. My son was impatient to start with the construction, but before we could I had to time just to identify the piece of information we needed.

The experience that we had with this was incredible!! Putting this together was easy & my boys absolutely love it. Not to mention there are many different things my kids can build that I feel fuel a child' imagination. I also purchased the Uberstix sail boat which we have not yet put together however, I am sure that the experience will just as great!!!!

Great for adventurous builders who want something different than the usual Knex or Legos.
