For a Great Evening with Friends

We had played several murder mystery dinner party games in the past, but most of our guests had not. This game is a good choice for beginners and those who are shy about participating in an interactive game. A CD audio introduction sets the scene and a script is provided at the beginning of each round to help the players get into the mood and to provide some clues. I'd recommend that the host read the rules and intro before the guests arrive so he/she can more easily manage the flow between the sections and rounds. The written materials are a little confusing for the players. The script is set in first person and later clues are presented in third person. It's best to prepare the players for that. Also, unless you do some rewriting, it's better as a game for 6. The 2 "extra" players are not included in the scripts. I would say it fits as a Fat Brain toy because, despite some flaws, it provides guidance on hosting a great party. Menus are even included, although we chose to make our own favorites. You can certainly add your own creative touches. We outlined the body on the floor (using masking tape), picked up some inexpensive red and white checked material for tablecloths, printed menus for our "restaurant," and learned a smattering of Italian that sounded pretty darned good to us, especially after a couple bottles of Chianti. We had a LOT of fun, but this is "not" the game to choose if you seriously need to test your skills of deduction. It "is" the game to choose if you want to host a unique and fun filled social event using a murder mystery theme.

Great Birthday Dinner
Posted 2/16/2010 by Laura

Rating:

This game was fabulous. I was very impressed by the multiple menus, cooking instructions, and shopping lists. My mom and boyfriend and I had a great time decorating. All the guests got into it and did a great job. It was so funny and there was a ton of twists and turns. My only criticism is that the cd seemed kind of outdated. It said stuff like "side 1" (like it was a tape).

Pasta, Passion & Pistols

Not one of the best I've played but, if there was a 3/4 star I'd fill that in to give it a total of 4 3/4 stars. It's still that good! I'd definitely recommend it if your the type who likes the "Mob" and Spaghetti.

Pasta, Passion & Pistols Game
Posted 10/18/2009 by PAT M.

Rating:

My husband and I hosted a social gathering at our house using Pasta, Passion, & Pistols as the theme. It was a huge success. There were 22 guests in attendance and 7 volunteers to be the cast. Everyone had the greatest time. It was a hilarious evening. We ordered pizza from a local take out and I made a baked pasta dish and salad. We had an Italian Creme cake and a Tiramisu cake for dessert. Everyone raved how much fun they had and we will for sure do this again using a different Murder Mystery Theme Game next time if we have the same guests. We will definately use this one again with different guests.

Pasta, Passion & Pistols

Rating:

We have reviewed the materials and they are very satisfactory. We don't plan to use the game in the immediate future, so we are not able to evaluate the length of time nor how things worked with the CD. The plot line and characters are a hoot and the invitations and the meal hints are very helpful.

A Great Time!

We hosted this party last night. It was easy to do, as the kit really organizes everything. We drew a chalk outline on the kitchen floor, which was a fun touch. I was Mama Rosa, and I had a toy pistol tucked in the top of my dress. It ended up being a handy prop. I would recommend assigning the roles of the priest and the psychic to the couple that is most likely to "bail" since their parts are not central to the plot. All 8 of us had a ball!
