My grandson (2 1/2) had fun playing with the set. His Dad helped him build the biplane which was much bigger than I had anticipated. It was so big, he could not pick it up and "fly" it. He used the set for many other things (using his own imaginiation) and had a lot of fun with it.

Interesting building system but I have some worries about the chemical smell

I want my 5 years old son to be more focused and to grow his attention span. I hope that once he will experience the excitement of building things he will change his interests from running around the house shooting imaginary aliens to a more calm and positive activity. I live in Europe but I went all the way and ordered a couple of unique toys from Fat Brain Toys in US (looking for toys I could not find here – toys that will keep my son focused for a longer period of time). Superstructs Flight Set was yet another try to spark his interest in building sets. He loves everything related to flight (from kites to rockets) so the transition to building rockets and airplanes with this building set was natural. And he really enjoys building with this set. The system is pretty practical (it is much easier for my son to build with Superstructs than with Lego or other systems). The build process is very quick (so he does not lose his attention and he is motivated to stay and finish the job.) My surprise was the manual. Because the rods are pretty abstract and you can't see the final construction in your mind just by looking at the rods, I had to show him the manual and explain how to build by following the booklet. It was the first time when he was able to follow the printed instructions (he is 5, and all the other system were too complex or required him to be able to read big numbers or to match all kinds of small pieces with different details to drawings). With this set, all parts are color coded, so my son looks in the manual and says, - no dad, we have to put a yellow rod here. It's easier to find the correct length pieces because he is looking for the correct color. The same thing is true about the other pieces as well. The bottom line - this was the first building system (in many) he was able to follow the building steps by looking to the manual. My concern is with the materials this set is using. As soon as I opened the container I notice the awful chemical smell (yes, I have an acute sense of smell). The smell and the texture of the panels remind me of the foam puzzle mats recently banned in Europe because of a cancer-causing chemical they contain. I have no idea if the foam parts in the Superstructs Set are using the same formula as the foam above mentioned puzzle mats (they probably don’t and I have nothing to worry about) but I have to say - that terrible chemical smell makes me have seconds thoughts when I give this toy to my son to play with.

Superstructs Flight Set

This set is durable, colorful, and compatible with the other sets in this series. My grandson has spent hours and hours creating and playing. It is also nice to have the container that it arrived in durable enough to be the ongoing storage container.

What a wonderful toy set for aspiring, little pilots! My four year old son builds and rebuilds the different aircrafts for hours at a time. This is our fifth Superstructs set and he loves all of them. They are all compatible with eachother so you can make anything with them, even after making all the suggested models in the book. Best of all, no batteries required--it is imagination powered!

Great Stuff!!!!! 4 year old grand son loves it!!! Don't know if it's for everybody. My grandson is more of a thinker, builder type as opposed to a scoccer or football kinda guy. Christmas day we played with it for 2 plus hours and I complained to my wife that she never buys me toys like this anymore!

superstructs

We have boys 7 and under and all of them love superstructs. They build numerous toys (planes, guns, rockets and forts to protect them when they use the foam pieces in war). They have stuck them in play doe and the play falls out once it dries. They can take them in water too. I believe superstructs helps shape their imaginations and keeps them busy for long periods of time. They prefer the plastic over the wooden tinker toys so we continue to collect these sets. These are our favorite toys.

I purchased this in hopes that it would be something that my 3 yr old Grandson would enjoy and learn from. He spent the weekend with us and both Friday and Saturday night we stayed up way past bedtime to build and play. We used it to practice counting by having him select the number of certain items needed and to improve on organization by sorting out all of the parts. We also used it to help in learning to follow procedures and instructions. He already has an exceptional imagination and I believe the set helped to improve on that and his creativity. But most of all we used the Flight Set to have a great time and build some wonderful memories with Grandpa. Got some great pictures to of him and the finished planes and helicopter.

Our 3 and a half year old grandson LOVED this flight set! So did his father, who also loves airplanes! They had fun working together on it. The large size and the softer material makes it easy and fun for the younger guys to work with it, and the little guy can follow the instructions and put it together. This is a great product and I would highly recommend it for younger children who can't quite manage the more difficult tinker toys.

My grandson, almost 5, has always had an interest in putting things together and using his imagination. Superstructs are made much like the Tinker Toys I played with as a child. These are much better since they are bigger and less likely to break. The directions for making the various toys are easy to follow when playing along with him. I highly recommend this product.

My son, who is almost 4, loves this set. He has two other Superstructs sets that he likes, but he is really into airplanes right now and this set inspired him to build things by himself. I think that Superstructs are a great toy. They are similar to Tinker Toys but they have more complex pieces.

My 4 yr old son loves it! We have had similar building sets, but they did not have nearly the amount of interesting pieces that this one has. Highly recommended.

I got this for my 4 1/2 yr old, and he is loving it. It's easy enough to use so that it builds his self esteem, yet complex enough to feel like his older brother.
