I bought the Zome Tool Pioneer Kit (as well as the Bubble Kit and Adventurer Kit) so my Second Graders can build shapes and also create bubbles with these shapes. The kit is great... color-coding the rods is an advantage so kids can see which pieces fit where. Their imagination is the limit on what they can build. I definitely recommend this product to anyone who wnats kids to explore building things.

We purchased this toy for our daughters (age 6 and 7) and thought we'd spend a few minutes "getting them started"...an hour later, I was still happily building. My husband enjoyed creating unusual 3-d shapes. The kids experimented with the different geometric forms, but were also pleased to make simple houses and flowers. The toy fosters creativity, but it is very mathematical.
I have since purchased 2 more: 1 for my niece and one for the son of a friend who is an engineer...I know they'll have a blast.
If your child is young, I would recommend that you show him how to use it the first time, to "get the hang of it". On subsequent occasions, it can be played with individually.
It is also a good group toy, but you may need 2 sets to have enough pieces for a large group.

I purchased this item for my seven year old grandson in order to expand his insatiable appetite for anything math.
This item kept him busy for almost three hours.
I hope to expand on this kit and truly believe that I will never hear the three most dreaded words, "I am bored" again.
Great Tools for Kids

The Zome Pioneer Kit is a perfect starter kit for kids of all ages, including moms and dads. As a scientist married to a scientist with a child already interested in science at age 5, Zome is perfect for introducing 3D shape concepts as well as biochemical molecules. Of course, you can also build rockets out of Zome too, which is what makes this a great tool for the imagination.

I ordered three zome kits--one for each of my boys and one for myself. They were an instant hit. My kids made amazing 3D geometric constructs and spun them like tops. I know they will bring hours and hours of fun in the future. They are a delight!

I bought the Pioneer Kit as a gift and was slightly dissapointed that it was packaged in a cardboard box. I had purchased the Explorer Kit about a year ago for my 10 year old son, and it is in a heavy duty plastic case. My son likes building with zome but sometimes has a difficult time getting the pieces to stay connected (even with our help). This can be somewhat frustrating on the more intricate designs. We have also had some of the red pieces break at the connection point so my son has labled zome as fragile and won't let his friends play with them. We really like the design of this building set, we just wish it were of slightly better quality for the price.

I have purchased this product twice. The first time was sight unseen, but after seeing it and using it with one grandchild, I ordered it for another family. The builder (child or adult) can be creative while building unique shapes or buildings or can follow the many examples in the instruction booklet and have a wonderful learning experience. After seeing this played with (and using it myself), I recommend this product highly. I love it and love to see children building with it. I will be buying this again and adding on.

My grandson enjoys it, but he told me one of the Zome Tool pieces broke after playing with it only for an hour or so. He said it is still fun, and he can make it work. But I am dismayed that a piece broke as soon as he started playing with the item.

My daughter enjoys playing with Geomag and Magnetix. ZomeTool adds an element of mathematics that those construction toys don't. She likes that they are more stable, so she can have hanging pieces, but doesn't always like that she can't put rods exactly where she wants them. She also doesn't like that she can't choose the colors to be where she wants them within her design. She likes to make patterns and try new structures. She is also noticing geometric design patterns as she builds.

This is a really cool tool! I plan to write a proposal for a grant to order more sets of these for my gifted classes.

My daughter attends a Montessori school and came home asking for this item. She uses it at school quite often. She loves building things with her Zome Tool kit! The only negative is that a few of the ends have broken off the rods when she is taking her work apart. That is why I only gave it 4 out of 5 stars. (Note from Fat Brain Toys: We contacted Cathy with information on receiving replacement Zome Tool rods.)

I purchased this set as a Christmas present for my 11 yr old son. He had asked for several of the individual smaller sets you can buy (like cube madness, dna, etc) I thought the bigger set was a better idea so he could make all of those then some. At first he was thrilled and then not so much. I thought it was the after Christmas thrill of so many new things but after 3 months he hasn't played with them at all. The quality of the toy is excellent and I think the idea is great. I was disappointed in the fact it didn't come with any type of idea book which would have peaked his interest more.

My boyfriend and I got the Zome pioneer kit as a gift for his nieces. The kids had a lot of fun making different things out of the Zome pieces, and also different shaped soap bubbles. They and their parents liked it so much that they put in a request for more Zome pieces the following Christmas.

What an interesting toy. It's like a cross between K'nex and Tinker Toys. My son loves it and he has played with it for the last seven days. He is eight years old and isn't afraid to unbuild and rebuild it into different figures.

I gave this building set to my son when he turned 10. He loves any sort of building challenge. With Zome Tool he can do lots of things, such as build bridges, buildings and he is looking forward to trying to blow bubbles with Zome Tool creations! He finds assembly easy with Zome Tool's balls and rods. The possibilities for creativity are endless!

I found your website by accident and how I am glad I did. My son loved so many things that you had to offer. We both can't wait until the spring so we can get a cool kite for the beach.
The package arrived in mint condition and very quickly. I was scared at first because this was a Christmas gift and I wasn't sure how speedy your store would be in shipping it out. I also loved the great book that was included showing all your products.
I will tell all my family about your website so they too can get items for their children.
Most of all, I love the name of your store... Fat Brain Toys! How clever.
PS I bought 95% of his Christmas from the internet (Toys 'R' Us, E-toys, Discovery etc..) and you were the only one to email me about my satisfaction. I rate you A+

Great tool for children and also grown-ups

I think this is great tool for children and also grown-ups. One can be entertained for hours on this and it also helps to enhance children's creative abilities and 3-D 'thinking'.
While the pioneer kit is a starter kit, I would recommend the 'creator set' or even the 'Advanced Math kit' for building complex and fascinating polyhedra.
I would also recommend the book 'zome geometry'. This will be extremely helpful for parents and teachers even if they are working with 1st graders.

Zome is one of those great toys, no batteries, no lights, no obnoxious sounds. It is fun to build with and requires thinking and planning ahead. Will definitely purchase more in the series.
