Can you guess how fast the steel balls will roll and why they accelerate?
A magnetic accelerator is a chain reaction device. It is built in a series of stages, each containing a magnet, a spacer, and a projectile.
This four stage magnetic accelerator assembles in minutes without tools or glue. It includes powerful rare-earth magnets, steel ball bearings, a 25cm (10") long firing trough, and all the hardware needed to build your own magnetic accelerator. You can even join more than one kit to multiply the effect! This kit is an ideal centerpiece for a science project on magnetism and kinetic energy.
To start the chain reaction, a steel ball is released, which accelerates towards the first stage magnet. Like billiard balls, when it strikes the magnet, its energy is transfered through the magnet and spacer and into the projectile which speeds off toward the next stage. The process repeats until the last projectile leaves the end of the device. The more stages an accelerator has, and the more powerful the magnets are at each stage, the faster the ball bearing will leave the final stage!

Works Well, Needs Documentation

It works very well, but there is nothing included with the accelerator to explain what it is doing. Also, the main track should be made of a less splintery wood, and the separator should be thicker or stronger.
Not Just Magnetic

This product requires assembly. The instructions could have been clearer for assembly. The title of the product "Magnetic Accelerator" is a little misleading. While it utilizes magnets, it also relies on the transfer of mechanical linear momentum. The proper functioning of the device relies on very precise assembly. It is an amusing device, but it should come with a good explanation of the laws of physics being demonstrated so that teachers could better use this appropriately.

It is an overall good product, but I was expecting it to be longer so that it could of gone faster.

I saw a clip of the magnetic accelerator on a science website. When I realized it could be had as a kit I really wanted to try it. When it arrived I found it quite simple to put together and reasonably well constructed for its price. The directions are simple and streight forward. The little cardboard shuttle is pretty simple to assemble and works as advertised. Would make a good science project for school . I only gave it a four star because it appeqred to be less powerful than the one I origionaly saw on the clipl It appeared to be a little smaller, that may be the problem. I like it and the grandkids like it.
