Imagine a utopian global village with 32 building structures from around the world. In the game of Cathedral World, the Great Wall of China, the West Wailing Wall, the Wall of Marrakesh, and the Zimbabwa Ruins define the space where two opposing players vie for space in which to strategically position their 14 architectural playing pieces. Whichever piece or pieces cannot be placed back within the village boundaries, determines the winning player. This game is a winning mix of culture, architecture, geography, history, strategy, and skill. Includes one polystone playing board, 28 playing pieces representing building structures from around the world, 1 "People Piece", and instructions. For 2 players. Ages 8 and up.

Unique Strategy Game that is a work of art
    Posted 1/14/2010 by William Said

    Rating:

Monumental Moves is a fantastic game of strategy. I was look forward to getting the game, not just for the actual gameplay, but for the beautiful pieces and game itself. Each piece could be put on a shelf for display. The gameplay is very simple, but effective. I just love playing the game! There are some downsides however. With the actual hardware itself, as beautiful the concept of the pieces are, they seem to be made by hand, but not a steady hand (very few straight lines), and crooked spires and towers. Also, the seem to chip pretty easily. As far as gameplay, the only two downsides are that each game is VERY short, in a matter of minutes. And it is too easy for one player to very nearly take possession of significant portion of the board. Possibly if the board itself was bigger, it would extend the gameplay and minimize advantages.

    Great Concept but Average Implementation
    Posted 1/5/2010 by Anna

    Rating:

Beautiful concept, however, there a few things that can be worked on: 1. What stopped the creators of the game from putting the names of the buildings on the bottom of each piece? That would have made the game a bit more educational. There is a list in the directions that tells you where each structure came from, but no mention whatsoever of what it actually is. I doubt an average 8 year old is aware of all the architectural wonders of the world. 2. The pieces are made of some porous plastic material which is highly prone to breaking. Must be handled with utmost care. 3. The grid on the board starts a few millimeters away from the walls and that makes the entire structure shift especially as more pieces appear on the board. This is, however, a minor flaw and anyone with advanced fine motor skills will be totally OK.

    Cathedral World
    Posted 10/31/2007

    Rating:

I had previously owned the standard cathedral game and found it's combination of puzzle solving and strategy a lot of fun for both me and my kids. I was amazed at the improvement in both the quality of playing pieces and the board. The use of buildings from various nations around the world adds both a creative edge to the game as well as improving it's appearance.
