As one of the top online toy retailers, we have access to unprecendented quantities of product review data. One of the key ways that we use this data is by associating our products to the specific ages and genders of the kids who are playing with them. Whereas most retailers must rely upon manufacturer suggested ages (i.e. 3+), we take actual customer usage and share it with you here so that you can choose the perfect toy or game.
But how does this help me? You can use these graphs as a general measure of it's appropriateness for a given age and gender. While this information is generally accurate, it should not be used as an absolute answer. For instance, many dinosaur toys are purchased for boys, however, that doesn't mean that it's inappropriate for a girl who happens to like dinosaurs.
 |
 |
NOTE: The orange color in the charts above indicate ages that are LESS than the manufacturer suggested age. Please purchase at your discretion if your child is younger than 3 years of age.

"Great product for strenghtening hands for fine motor activities. Texture is great for sensory issues - very dry to touch - not wet feeling like other putty products. Can mold it or just pull apart and will eventually ooze back into original form. Very highly recommend for fine motor skills. My son has autism and will play with this product. Great mindless fine motor activity. Adults love to play with this as well!!"

"When we saw this item, we hoped it would compare to some physical therapy clay we had access to at an earlier time in my surrogate grandchild's life. This clay feels pleasing to touch, hold and manipulate to someone with fine motor and sensory issues. It warms and softens with touch so it becomes more pleasing to handle and manipulate as you use it. It is especially good to help awkward fingers and hands if you tend to be stiff. Having taught young children with fine motor challenges for 25 years, I believe a few minutes working with this clay before a writing activity might help with that task for a child who struggles. If you want the clay to be really hard and more difficult to manipulate, try putting it in the freezer for a while and then manipulating it. The cool helps stiff hands and fingers, especially if they are stiff from inflammation, and the harder it is to manipulate the more work one has to do to soften it up. If you have any fine motor challenges, I would encourage you to try this product for an enjoyable way to help improve motor dexterity and movement. I know I used it after an injury to my hands. If I had not I might not have use of a certain few fingers today. It is not a modeling clay, it's a hold and squeeze, stretch and pull, squish and pound clay!"

"Brain food was purchased for a child who has been diagnosed with ADD/HD. this product kept his attention far longer than any other item received! I cannot tell you the joy expressed by his mother! He was enthralled and remained engaged for extended periods of time. As a teacher, i can tell you that I was extremely impressed! his mother said he even slept with the tin! Another tin was purchased for a child with autism. She adores brain food. Her uses for it were surprisingly unique. She utilized it quite differently than my own (non-special needs) children. This is the one item I found that was the least expensive yet held the highest value of all purchases... I cannot speak highly enough of it!"

"My spectrum kids can listen better if their hands are busy. They can also be a bit destructive if bored. This weird grey putty facinated them both from the minute we opened it. It really helps them sit still & wait. It's great for building hand strength too. Best of all it doesn't stain or stick to my furniture!"

Ok so its like putty, but better and prettier! It comes in several colors and its own tin. It cracks and pops like gum with manipulation and is a great alternative to a sress relief ball.
