Inchimals - A Mathematical Safari Adventure!
2011 Teachers’ Choice Award Winner - Learning® Magazine
2011 Creative Child - Kids' Product of the Year Award
2010 NAPPA Honors Award
What can you learn from a rabbit that is exactly four inches tall - and his perfectly precise pals? If you are a child, plenty!
Inchimals are incredibly effective math blocks that teach measurement, number concept, addition, subtraction, and pre-algebra! Ideal for many ages of children.
Beautifully crafted, thoughtfully designed, Inchimals are 12 wooden animal blocks measuring 1” (the tiny ladybug) to 12” (the towering giraffe). With exact inch segments, written numerals, representative dots, and cute animals too - this learning toy is a sure winner.
Can you explore Measurement?
Easy. Find the block that matches your shoe, or your granola bar, or stack them all together and measure you!
Can you learn Addition?
Sure. Ladybug + Tree Frog. Stack the Ladybug and Tree Frog vertically and match to another block length. Why it’s Mouse, of course! A fun, visual way to learn the meaning of 1 + 2 = 3.
Subtraction?
Stack two blocks horizontally, the Mouse and Ladybug for instance. Ask your child to find the difference between the two animals using another block. It's the Tree Frog! 3 – 1 = 2 becomes visual!
Pre-Algebra?
Proceeding with play and the fun puzzles within the write-on wipe-off puzzle book, children learn to balance equations of pre-Algebra!
Recognized by early childhood educators and parents of children with special needs, Inchimals is a multi-purpose toy that encourages creativity, interaction, logic and mathematics mastery.

As one of the top online toy retailers, we have access to unprecendented quantities of product review data. One of the key ways that we use this data is by associating our products to the specific ages and genders of the kids who are playing with them. Whereas most retailers must rely upon manufacturer suggested ages (i.e. 3+), we take actual customer usage and share it with you here so that you can choose the perfect toy or game.
But how does this help me? You can use these graphs as a general measure of it's appropriateness for a given age and gender. While this information is generally accurate, it should not be used as an absolute answer. For instance, many dinosaur toys are purchased for boys, however, that doesn't mean that it's inappropriate for a girl who happens to like dinosaurs.
NOTE: The orange color in the charts above indicate ages that are LESS than the manufacturer suggested age. Please purchase at your discretion if your child is younger than 3 years of age.

Identified Special Needs Challenges: Sensory Integration Disorder,
Speech & Language Delay
"My almost 3 year old is just starting to talk and likes the animals and numbers. He loves counting and working on saying the words. Plus he loves touching and holding them.
"
"All of your categories could use this to facilitate math and language skills in an enjoyable way. I would give this gift (I taught for 30 years and most of that in special ed) to a teacher of any of the above special needs and to pre-school teacher too. In fact, I suggested that when the family who was given this gift outgrows it, they should give it to their school. "
Identified Special Needs Challenges: Autism,
Developmental Delay
"This was a gift for a six year old boy with Pervasive Developmental Delay (ASD). He does not have a grasp of number concepts beyond counting to 100. His parents agreed that this would be a good gift choice. As a block fan, he was immediately entranced by the colorful Inchimals. He began to build with them - stacking, sorting, shortest to tallest, etc. A good start - that piqued his interest. As his parents play with him they can gradually introduce size and measuring concepts as well as the problem solving aspect in the accompanying book. His parents really like the product."
Identified Special Needs Challenges: Autism
"If used as a game, Inchimals can be used to compete with others. This item can be used in classrooms for arithmetic skill teaching. Also enhances learning at home. Can also be used by therapists to teach and learn."

Pretty great way to teach

My almost 5-year old son really likes this, and so do I. The teaching that it offers is invaluble to a parent/teacher wanting to teach early measurement concepts and adding/subtracting and combinations of the two. My only wish is that it were more of a game, so I could PLAY it with him, rather than it being more of an independent activity. Kids this young want to PLAY.

I absolutely love this toy, as does my 4 year old daughter! I showed my friend and she has already ordered it for her children! I am a preschool teacher and am always looking for great math toys! This is one of them. These could be used simply with children as young as two, and as old as 8. SO SO SO HAPPY I BOUGHT THIS! :)
My children love playing with this toy. Well made with cute animals- definitely useful in introducing measurement, numbers etc. while playing. Will be giving as gifts to friends.
While rated high for four year olds we found unless there was guidance and adult input it wasn't as compelling as suggested. While the muni platoon was great and the design excellent it didn't quite delight as expected. More schoolish than I thought.
