Insect collecting is extremely popular with kids and many classes assign it as a school project. This poster shows examples of all 30 orders arranged in unique key chart format. By identifying the various physical characteristics, the student can classify the insect as to the order level. As there over 1,000,000 known species, more detailed identification requires advanced research material. Since its introduction this poster has been extremely useful and popular. This latest edition has been revised to make it even simpler to use. This poster contain a large section devoted to insect anatomy. It begins with a grasshopper with all of its various body parts identified. It is accompanied by illustrations showing the variation of body parts between the various species. Compare the the head of the butterfly to that of the beetle, butterfly and fly. Notice the major differences in their mouth parts. It is such characteristics that are used to determine classification.
A glossary provides information on each body part. Also included in is a section that introduces Arthropods. They are animals that have external skeletons. In addition to insects, the arthropods include spiders and the crustaceans. Several are shown. All posters measure 24" X 36".

As one of the top online toy retailers, we have access to unprecendented quantities of product review data. One of the key ways that we use this data is by associating our products to the specific ages and genders of the kids who are playing with them. Whereas most retailers must rely upon manufacturer suggested ages (i.e. 3+), we take actual customer usage and share it with you here so that you can choose the perfect toy or game.
But how does this help me? You can use these graphs as a general measure of it's appropriateness for a given age and gender. While this information is generally accurate, it should not be used as an absolute answer. For instance, many dinosaur toys are purchased for boys, however, that doesn't mean that it's inappropriate for a girl who happens to like dinosaurs.

NOTE: The orange color in the charts above indicate ages that are LESS than the manufacturer suggested age. Please purchase at your discretion if your child is younger than 7 years of age.

Insect Poster by "Mom"

Setting: Home

My 9 yr. old daughter looks at bugs at all times of year, catalogs them, keeps a journal of where they are found, title, and what their function in the environment is. She has a very good microscope that she looks at them with.
She loves this poster. It is large scale to show the external parts and working of different types of bugs and references the similarities and differences between those parts by class of insect. This poster is laminated and sturdy, so no worries about rips or smears. Should hold up and be easy to keep clean on her wall. There are other types of these posters available through Fat Brain and we plan on purchasing some more of them.

The chart like most items at Fat Brain is wonderful. Very detailed and interesting. My son took it to his 3rd classroom for use and all the kids love it.
