Sure there's a couple of little edges that aren't perfect, but out of the - say - 250 pieces I received quickly, maybe only 4 of the, had a barely unfinished couple of millimeters. Either they've upped their attention to detail thanks to past reviews, or their product has and always will be exceptionally well made. The variety and smooth, amazing feel of all the unique blocks are a must. Buy them -- your kids will play with them for years. Even my 5 year old (whose imagination could use a boost) has been creating new ways to use the blocks and delights in them. Roads, zoo's, spelling words with them, creating a restaurant for some dolls with them -- it's awesome. He's even started to combine them with other blocks he hasn't used in years.

We bought these for our 1 year old, knowing that our 2 1/2 year old would be equally thrilled. These are definitely heirloom blocks. Everyone at the party awed over them when they were opened and we're already thinking of what to add to them. Not because there aren't enough pieces, but because Haba makes such awesome shapes that my engineer husband needs more to create so the one year old can knock them over! High quality, worth the price.

My 3 kids (ages 3,5 and 7) all love to build with these blocks. There are enough blocks in this set to build some cool stuff.
