Monkey Math makes learning simple addition more fun than a barrel of monkeys! Just hang an equal number of colorful bananas from each of the monkey's hands. If you've done your addition correctly, the monkey will look straight ahead and his arms will be level. If the numbers are not equal, his eyes will be crossed and his arms will be up and down. That means it's time to try again! Includes monkey scale, fifteen banana number tokens, and detailed instruction booklet showing how to make learning simple addition a whole bunch of fun.
As one of the top online toy retailers, we have access to unprecendented quantities of product review data. One of the key ways that we use this data is by associating our products to the specific ages and genders of the kids who are playing with them. Whereas most retailers must rely upon manufacturer suggested ages (i.e. 3+), we take actual customer usage and share it with you here so that you can choose the perfect toy or game.
But how does this help me? You can use these graphs as a general measure of it's appropriateness for a given age and gender. While this information is generally accurate, it should not be used as an absolute answer. For instance, many dinosaur toys are purchased for boys, however, that doesn't mean that it's inappropriate for a girl who happens to like dinosaurs.
NOTE: The orange color in the charts above indicate ages that are LESS than the manufacturer suggested age. Please purchase at your discretion if your child is younger than 5 years of age.
Got this for my 5 yr old daughter who has autism and sensory processing disorder and auditory processing disorder. Hoping that, long term, it will help cement addition for her. So, far, she's just intrigued with the monkey's eyes shifting if it's incorrectly balanced and with piling as many bananas on each side of his hands as she can fit. Definitely a game I have to sit with her and coach her through (as I'd fully intended) and keep her on task with it so she doesn't just turn it into a "toy", but a learning game/toy. A great addition to our homeschool room and I've heard only rave reviews from other moms, some of which are teachers themselves. The pieces are all easy to see and easy to little hands and big hands to hang. Must put Monkey on hard surface since he IS, in essence, a scale. Box he comes with is crucial to keep with the inside shaped plastic so your pieces don't get lost...I'm happy for that. Can't beat the price for something FUN that WILL teach addition. I even try to teach the concept of 'adding zero" with this as well to reinforce concept to her. Seems great for my extremely visual learner. Thanks, Fat Brain Toys!
The only reason I didn't give this the highest possible rating is because my granddaughter just got it yesterday. Between Sydney and her cousins, this game/toy was the center of attention for quite awhile. Even the adults of the party were intrigued by this one. Watching the kids easily see they had to make the arms balance by getting the number of bananas on each arm to be the same was delightful. Thank you for offering such a simple and fun way for them to learn!
