This isn't an ant farm...this is a real ant hill!
It's a clever design inspired by nature. Designed to look like a REAL anthill, this one provide kids with an up close look at the world beneath the sand's surface.
View from the convex side, you'll see surface ant activity. From the flat backside, there's an underground militia at work carrying out the duties of being... ants. Really focused, busy ants.
We love the fact that kids get to feed and water their Western Harvester ants themselves. Open the little top flap, drop in bits of fresh vegetables, fruits and water drops - every third day. This colony of insect pets is easy to maintain and fun to watch. Especially when competition arises for carrying away the occasional bit of potato chip. (Hey! Who put that in there?)
Not intended to be merely something to stare at, although, that is good recreation too. This kit comes complete with website addresses for gathering ant data, insect care pointers, a diagram with labeled ant anatomy, and activities for home or classroom to expand learning.

As one of the top online toy retailers, we have access to unprecendented quantities of product review data. One of the key ways that we use this data is by associating our products to the specific ages and genders of the kids who are playing with them. Whereas most retailers must rely upon manufacturer suggested ages (i.e. 3+), we take actual customer usage and share it with you here so that you can choose the perfect toy or game.
But how does this help me? You can use these graphs as a general measure of it's appropriateness for a given age and gender. While this information is generally accurate, it should not be used as an absolute answer. For instance, many dinosaur toys are purchased for boys, however, that doesn't mean that it's inappropriate for a girl who happens to like dinosaurs.
NOTE: The orange color in the charts above indicate ages that are LESS than the manufacturer suggested age. Please purchase at your discretion if your child is younger than 0 years of age.

My grandchild (age 5) is so excited about his very own ant hill. He is going to bring it to his school for show and tell as soon as his supply of ants arrive.
My daughter is really into all things insect related, so for her 6th birthday we decided this would be a great gift. And it was. She's been captivated by the ants' activities, i.e. digging tunnels, how they deal with the dead ones (yes, there were dead ones) and how they eat. Would recommend to a bug-loving friend for sure!
Review for Anthill

I purchased the Anthill to transfer our Harvester ants from a smelly gel farm where they hardly moved and didn't dig tunnels. I was hoping that having sand in the Anthill would encourage them to transport the sand around. As soon as we dropped the ants into the Anthill, they started moving the sand. By the next morning, the ants had already found their way over the top and had started to dig tunnels in the back. The kids (2 and 5 years old) have been fascinated by the ants digging tunnels and seeing new tunnels every day. The kids have always been fascinated by ants and have been observing them in nature. I'm not entirely convinced that we need ants as "pets". It has been fun for the kids, however. Eventually, we'll set them free because "they will be much happier out there". This anthill is a good product if you would like to keep and observe ants indoors.
My son had an ant farm when he was 3 years old. He asked for another one (he is 14 now). We are very excited to receive our ants. This Anthill looks like it will be great.

We have yet to put ants in it and my 11 year-old son is still fascinated by the anthill! He was able to set it up all by himself, with 99.9% of the sand going where it was supposed to go. He has read and re-read the instructions as he anxiuosly awaits the arrival of the ants we ordered.
