Babal, like much of what interests children the most, is both simple and surprising.
Developed by Swiss toy designer Alex Hochstrasser for Active People, Babal looks like one ball, but is actually two. A large colored ball holds a recessed "dimple," in which another, smaller ball in a contrasting color sits. When the two are fitted together, Babal works just like any other ball; it's great for catching and rolling. When the smaller ball is removed, however, the large ball offers up a few unexpected benefits. Set on its empty dimple, it becomes stationary and stackable, making tall towers possible. The contrasting textures of the large and small balls also cater to the "nesting" desire of young children.
Whether it's being used for catching, balancing, or rolling, Babal is designed for both boys and girls to stimulate creative play, nurture hand-eye coordination, promote motor skills, and spur the imagination. Babal provides hours of fun for kids by themselves, in pairs and groups, both indoors and out.

Our son likes this so much we bought a couple more. He loves to take the balls in and out and then stacking them or rolling them.
Great Toy...Maybe Not For Babies

This is a great ball. The thin ridges feel good in the hands, it feels solid, yet light enough for babies to push it around. And of course, it is beautifully designed. The smaller ball inside a bigger ball is a brilliant idea. I can't wait until my son figures that one out! Of course, he is 5 months old, and though he thoroughly enjoys watching me throw the ball in the air and catch it, he can't do a whole lot with it yet. My only fear is the material it is made out of. I wouldn't want my son to take a bite out of it and choke on a piece that might come off! All that said, I think it will be great when he is older.

Remotely cute and perhaps more fun if you can afford to buy these in quanity. Neither of my kids were interested in this for more than a few minutes (we only bought two).

My two nephews and my niece thought the babals were a big hit. They loved them. They were very interested in how the smaller balls fit into the larger ones. A great idea for a toddler!
Fun For Broad Age Ranges

This toy has been enjoyed by my 4 year old as well as her cousins, ages 8 and 12. It is unique as far as balls go. The kids got creative and made up their own game with it. It would probably be even more fun with multiple balls.
