As one of the top online toy retailers, we have access to unprecendented quantities of product review data. One of the key ways that we use this data is by associating our products to the specific ages and genders of the kids who are playing with them. Whereas most retailers must rely upon manufacturer suggested ages (i.e. 3+), we take actual customer usage and share it with you here so that you can choose the perfect toy or game.
But how does this help me? You can use these graphs as a general measure of it's appropriateness for a given age and gender. While this information is generally accurate, it should not be used as an absolute answer. For instance, many dinosaur toys are purchased for boys, however, that doesn't mean that it's inappropriate for a girl who happens to like dinosaurs.
NOTE: The orange color in the charts above indicate ages that are LESS than the manufacturer suggested age. Please purchase at your discretion if your child is younger than 3 years of age.

Identified Special Needs Challenges: Developmental Delay
"We use the product as intended. Our only need was to make sure that Joseph knew the alphabet. His twin sings as he goes..."A" after Joseph puts down the A and then sings "AB" and Joseph yells "C" and grabs the C, "C is for cow. Moo!" and his twin sings "ABC." They go on until the song is complete. This way, both twins are reinforcing skills and Mom can empty the dishwasher nearby."
Identified Special Needs Challenges: Autism
"Our nephew is moderately autistic. Because of the bright colors, which appeal to him, and the sturdy construction of the puzzle, this will be something Reese will play with a lot. His Mom and Dad work with him all the time. This puzzle will be a great tool for them to use."

My 3 year old daughter played with the Melissa and Doug Alphabet Train Puzzle at her friend's house on a play date. She absolutely fell in love with it, so I've been looking for one locally. When I found it at Fat Brain, I HAD TO buy it! I think this is a great purchase because of the construction of the puzzle. It is thicker board, and coated so it can be easily wiped off. It was also a bonus that it was a train with animals on it, as she loves both. It is a sturdy and durable toy that doesn't seem to wear out quickly with constant play and use. I also like that it helps her with her ABC's.

2 yr old grandson loves trains and puzzles and so likes this puzzle a lot. Puzzle is well made with vibrant colors.
I don't like that the animal for x is a fox - kids young enough to play with this won't know that the underlined letter is the one they're supposed to learn/know. The manufacturer used an umbrella for U so why not a xylophone for X? I also think they could've varied the train car types instead of having the same car for every letter.

Great floor puzzle. Our Grandson is only 2 so he's a little young for it, but he loves the first 2 pieces, the train engine! He also enjoys the animials and will repeat the letters of the alphabet so I think this will be a great toy/learning tool for a few years to come.
Great learning and great fun!

Purchased this product for our nephew (2 years old) and he wanted to try it out right away. With help from his mommy, he was able to assemble it across the living room floor. He enjoyed seeing the pictures and will certainly learn as he plays with this over and over again.

I bought this for my 3year old nephew for Christmas. He wanted to make it as soon as he opened it. He loves puzzles and trains, so I thought this would be a great way to start introducing the alphabet and its sounds. It's very visually appealing, but for now he needs help creating it since his alphabet knowledge is limited.
