As one of the top online toy retailers, we have access to unprecendented quantities of product review data. One of the key ways that we use this data is by associating our products to the specific ages and genders of the kids who are playing with them. Whereas most retailers must rely upon manufacturer suggested ages (i.e. 3+), we take actual customer usage and share it with you here so that you can choose the perfect toy or game.
But how does this help me? You can use these graphs as a general measure of it's appropriateness for a given age and gender. While this information is generally accurate, it should not be used as an absolute answer. For instance, many dinosaur toys are purchased for boys, however, that doesn't mean that it's inappropriate for a girl who happens to like dinosaurs.
NOTE: The orange color in the charts above indicate ages that are LESS than the manufacturer suggested age. Please purchase at your discretion if your child is younger than 3 years of age.
Identified Special Needs Challenges: Autism
"In addition to having the child assemble the puzzles, I labeled each of the 4 sections of the box to match the symbols on each of the 4 puzzle pieces. It would be nice to have the picture of the assembled puzzles on the bottom of the box labeled with their appropriate symbols. Sorting: I had the child sort all the pieces by symbol type. Counting: count the number of pieces for each symbol type. Return to proper location: place the sorted pieces into the appropriate labeled boxes."
Identified Special Needs Challenges: Autism,
Sensory Integration Disorder,
Speech & Language Delay
"I use this toy with my son as such: I take out the pieces he is going to use and close the box. We work on the puzzle together in order to avoid scattering of the additional pieces which is what occurs most times with child with autism or SID. They get overwhelmed with so many pieces and begin to loose focus and scatter them all over the play area never accomplishing the goal of finishing the puzzle."
My son has enjoyed this puzzle set. He just turned three and still needs a little help doing the puzzle but LOVES all the dinosaur pictures once the puzzle is completed. I love that the pieces are wooded and help to make it easier for the pieces to stay together. The only downside is the puzzle is smaller than the flat surface provided on top of the storage container. As my boy gets older I don't think this will be a problem but right now it is a little challenging that the corners pieces don't all go into the corners. Overall it's a great set and I love that they come in a container that stores all the pieces!
My rating of New Dinosaurs Puzzles in a Box
Posted 12/10/2013 by BriAnn Christensen
I love the compartments for each puzzle. Each puzzle piece has a shape on the back that matches the other pieces of the same puzzle. My three year old has an easy time cleaning up the pieces and keeping things organized. It's perfect for his stage of development right now.
