YBIKE Extreme is a more versatile and a slightly larger version than the original YBIKE. It features shiny aluminum frame, a narrower back wheel base and larger rubber wheels that make it a more versatile ride for children 3 to 5 years old.
YBIKE: It looks amazing & performs even better! Physical development accelerates, mobility skills zip ahead, and children learn to ride a bike!
Developed and designed in South Africa, the YBIKE Extreme has taken the Eastern Hemisphere by storm. Now, available at Fat Brain Toys, it’s stirring up action in the United States as well. YBIKE Extreme shines within a collection of toys valuable in child development.
YBIKE is research proven to increase the rate growth in children’s physical development and enhance acquisition of essential mobility skills. Ingenious YBIKE makes learning to ride a bike effortless for children. ( The seat height is 14 inches.) Weight limit of rider is 66 lbs.
A recent study from the Stellenbosch University Department of Sports Science in South Africa found that children who had opportunity to play on YBIKES for 20-30 minutes twice a week, performed significantly better in tasks requiring both dynamic and static balance and leg coordination.
Play on YBIKES has been noted for widely increased abilities in mastery of balance beams and climbing a jungle gym.
New YBIKE Extreme Ensures:
Growth of Motor Skills
Created to help a child’s balance & coordination skills progress naturally, the design of YBIKE maximizes gross motor development. Seating is farther forward than on traditional bikes so kids can freely extend their leg stride. And there are no pedals. Kids practice uninhibited, bilateral, coordination of movement as they propel themselves along. YBIKE Extreme's wide seat encourages independent balance, yet its compelling two-wheel design offers significant challenge in maintaining that balance. Absence of pedals and brakes means kids rely on their own footwork; motor skills improve quickly and effortlessly.
Sensory Integration Experiences
Additionally, the YBIKE Extreme offers sensory integration experiences – refining neurological processes and body awareness (sense of touch, sense of balance -vestibular, and sense of where the body and its parts are in space –proprioceptive) through meaningful play.
Improved Confidence
In a split second they are off, with feet skimming along the ground, trotting while they sit perched on the YBIKES Extreme's handsome, comfortable design. Their balance is aided by a wide seat, stable rubber wheels. Mobility improves rapidly with no pedals present to trip them up! “Look Mom, I’m riding my bike!”
Safety & Protection from Injury
YBIKE’S Extreme's front wheel is designed for wide easy turns. High body provides clearance of obstacles. Large rubber wheels absorb impact making a safer, smoother ride even on rough, uneven surfaces. Seating is way forward in placement on YBIKE Exteme. Kids can freely extend their leg stride without risk of injury from wheels.
Practical, Genius Construction
Looks smart, high quality, and it’s also tough! With a precision designed aluminum frame, YBIKE eliminates weak points and provides sleek curves. Superior, brilliant finish. Lightweight yet sturdy, kids can maneuver gleaming YBIKES easily. Quiet inside and outside. Tread does not readily pick up rocks and debris from outside when the bikes are brought in for play! Durable to last for years of play.

As one of the top online toy retailers, we have access to unprecendented quantities of product review data. One of the key ways that we use this data is by associating our products to the specific ages and genders of the kids who are playing with them. Whereas most retailers must rely upon manufacturer suggested ages (i.e. 3+), we take actual customer usage and share it with you here so that you can choose the perfect toy or game.
But how does this help me? You can use these graphs as a general measure of it's appropriateness for a given age and gender. While this information is generally accurate, it should not be used as an absolute answer. For instance, many dinosaur toys are purchased for boys, however, that doesn't mean that it's inappropriate for a girl who happens to like dinosaurs.

Review for Ybike Extreme

Rating:

Looks solid since constructed. Assembly looks simple but getting the wheels on is very difficult.

Lots of fun!

We got the smaller version of the YBike for our youngest on his 2nd birthday and when we saw how much his big brother liked it we decided to get the bigger version for him on his 5th birthday. We have concrete floors so they have been having a wonderful time zooming all around the house on the bikes! It is a great size for him and he's very pleased with it. The narrower wheels make it a little more challenging for him to ride, which is a good thing too. His balance has noticeably improved in the week or so he's been using it and if it ends up being used like his brother's, I anticipate it will get a lot of riding time!

Fun, unique bike

Fun, unique bike that will grow with my son and daughter. Works with two-year old son because his trike pedals were always in the way. My three year-old daughter likes that the bike is brightly colored and fun to get around with.

Exciting New "Bike"
Posted 5/29/2010 by HGB

Rating:

Bought this Ybike Extreme for our extremely active 3 1/2 year old son. My husband had seen the Ybikes on a trip to South Africa, where everyone was raving about them and telling my husband he must get one for his son. Our son loves his tricycle, so we thought this would be a good next step before getting him on a first bicycle. He's tall for a 3yo, but the size seems right for him. So far, he loves it, but is still figuring out how to balance on it. First instinct is to push with his feet (good), but tricky to learn how to sit and balance... but that's good! Just trying to find a good safe spot for him to learn now (doesn't work well on grass). Kids on our street are wow'ed by its design, and even the much-watched older boys want a turn on the cool new toy. Happy to have made the purchase, hoping my son ends up loving it and moving onto a bicycle more smoothly after a summer of fun.

Bike Too Small for Advertised Age
Posted 5/26/2010 by Jennifer P.

Rating:

We were disappointed with YBike Extreme because it was too small although the ads state the bike's age range is 3-5. The real age range for this bike is 2-3.5. Even if the bike was the right size, there are a few design flaws that decrease its longevity. First, the one-piece handlebar is not adjustable. Second, the seat height is not adjustable. Our previous balance bike had both an adjustable handlebar and seat, which turned out to be very useful during the course of learning to ride and then riding at full running speed. Not so with YBike Extreme. Another feature that was a bit disappointing was the tires. The solid rubber tires are much better than plastic ones, but the wheels on YBike are very small and not very thick, so you would feel bumps and rocks a lot more than on a balance bike with inflatables. The bike is light, easy to assemble, and looks pretty cool, but its lack of adjustability really hurts long-term potential. In the end, I would hesitate to recommend YBike Extreme to friends because there are just many more and better options in balance bikes now. There are even several that offer the option of adding pedals and crank.
