As one of the top online toy retailers, we have access to unprecendented quantities of product review data. One of the key ways that we use this data is by associating our products to the specific ages and genders of the kids who are playing with them. Whereas most retailers must rely upon manufacturer suggested ages (i.e. 3+), we take actual customer usage and share it with you here so that you can choose the perfect toy or game.
But how does this help me? You can use these graphs as a general measure of it's appropriateness for a given age and gender. While this information is generally accurate, it should not be used as an absolute answer. For instance, many dinosaur toys are purchased for boys, however, that doesn't mean that it's inappropriate for a girl who happens to like dinosaurs.
NOTE: The orange color in the charts above indicate ages that are LESS than the manufacturer suggested age. Please purchase at your discretion if your child is younger than 8 years of age.

Identified Special Needs Challenges: Autism
"I purchased this product (in addition to the other Perplexus products) for the students in my Academic Resource class who are all identified on the autism spectrum. The students, ages 12-14, enjoy puzzles, especially those with a strong visual component. The Perplexus-Epic provides the visual stimulation they need and allows them to focus on solving a single task. They enjoy the challenge of the twists and turns and the game is non-competitive, except with themselves. They can play independently, but there is almost always someone else looking on and encouraging the player thus increasing their social interactions. "
Identified Special Needs Challenges: ADD/ADHD
"My son has ADHD and this toy allows him to spend his free time hyper-focusing on this fun activity. He craves it. My other son is not special needs and neither is my husband and they both love the toy too. They seem to be able to put it down easier than my son with ADHD."
Identified Special Needs Challenges: Aspergers
"Great tool for especially gifted young man (8, Aspergers) with advanced math, engineering, spacial interests. Simple enough to not require parental assistance. Complex enough to hold his interest for hours. "
Identified Special Needs Challenges: ADD/ADHD,
Aspergers
"I actually bought this for my office and decided to keep it for my autistic grandson."
The following "cloud" is a semantic representation of our customers' general impression of Perplexus - Epic. The larger the text, the more frequently that term is used to describe it.
I think it is a good sign that our 8 year old son brought this toy along in the car the other day and left his hand held game at home! He hasn't solved it yet but keeps coming back to try.
Excellent and entertaining

I purchased Perplexus-Epic for my students who are identified with Autism Spectrum Disorders. They love the challenge of puzzles and brain teasers and this product offers the best of both worlds. It is often a challenge to get them to class on time as they want to stay in the Academic Resource classroom and play with Perplexus-Epic. I also have other teachers stopping by to play as the game is quite addictive!

This was a gift for my 9 year old son. He already has the original Perplexus and got through that incredibly fast. We saw Perpleux Epic and thought it would be perfect for him as he still enjoys the original Perplexus. This one is more difficult for him and more of a challenge. He is finding ways of getting further along by skipping some of the steps; while this is not what Epic was intended for, it still requires him using his thinking skills. I kind of like that because it gives him a sense of satisfaction of finding ways around things plus, it makes the usage last longer as there is no way he will let this go until he solves it.
I picked this up for my son's 6th birthday knowing full well that it was going to be exceptionally difficult for him, but also knowing that he enjoys a challenge and that exercising his brain and motor skills is always a good thing. I wondered whether or not it would be SO difficult that he would just be completely frustrated and not use it, but that hasn't been the case at all. I think what makes Perplexus - Epic hold his interest is that if/when he gets frustrated with on area of the puzzle, he doesn't have to stay frustrated because he's stuck, but can move the marble to one of the practice zones and work on that area of the ball.
Of course his mom and I also enjoying playing with it, and it is definitely addicting, and difficult. All in all, I'm really happy with it, and don't have a single complaint.
