As one of the top online toy retailers, we have access to unprecendented quantities of product review data. One of the key ways that we use this data is by associating our products to the specific ages and genders of the kids who are playing with them. Whereas most retailers must rely upon manufacturer suggested ages (i.e. 3+), we take actual customer usage and share it with you here so that you can choose the perfect toy or game.
But how does this help me? You can use these graphs as a general measure of it's appropriateness for a given age and gender. While this information is generally accurate, it should not be used as an absolute answer. For instance, many dinosaur toys are purchased for boys, however, that doesn't mean that it's inappropriate for a girl who happens to like dinosaurs.
NOTE: The orange color in the charts above indicate ages that are LESS than the manufacturer suggested age. Please purchase at your discretion if your child is younger than 8 years of age.

This was purchased for our 7-year-old daughter who LOVES science and nature. With this kit, you create the 'volcano' out of a plaster material and molds, and then you can mix the 'lava' and watch what happens. Watching the transformation of the colors of the volcano itself is almost as cool as the lava flow. It starts out as a plan plaster color, dries with neat brownish tones, then seems to get bleached when the lava flows over it. But overnight, the volcano turns into a spectacular sight with colors and textures.
The lava flow is easy to create and you can do it multiple times (until you run out of citric acid). We experimented with the amounts of each ingredient to see what effect it had, and the kids had a great time.

I am a classroom teacher, so I needed something that I could use over and over again. Making the plaster cast was very easy and the way it dried was AMAZING! It looked like I hand painted it. There were variations in the brown colors and the greens that came out were gorgeous. The only disappointment came when the lava came out of the volcano. It just kind of oozed out and took off the beautiful finish on the plaster! I do have to say, though, when it dried overnight again, it dried with neat red streaks, so it doesn't look so bad. The kids (10-11 year olds) thought the volcano was neat to look at, but they wished it was more explosive.

The directions were easy to follow and the volcano turned out great. I also liked how it gave different facts about volcanos so my son learned some things about volcanos.
